He took a deep breath, brushing one hand over her hair, "Maybe I can go, if you're there. I just need to figure out how to not be so useless once we get there. I can't do a whole lot without apposable thumbs." The little joke had sounded better in his head, but he smiled in spite of it's awkward feel. Looking to the screen and the strange gap he cringed, thinking maybe she was right. "I could change it to something different," he offered, "Something not so... Familiar."

Shouko shrugged. "Sorry I'm being such a downer," she said softly. In truth, she liked sitting like this. It was nice to be close to someone again since the last several months had been spent so alone.
She heard his resolution about Eden and the lame joke, but chose not to reply at the moment. "I think I want to keep watching it, and stop talking about Eden. I'm sure it will get better."

Teagan nodded, agreeing in the decision. "It does, if you like explosions there's plenty," he said with a smile, giving her the sort of hug he usually gave to his sisters. Things seemed a little less weird now, though whether he was relaxing or it really was less tense was unknown.

The situation now significantly less awkward for whatever reason, Shouko relaxed and focused on the movie.
"So, er, what's going on?" she asked, pretty sure she'd missed an important line somewhere. What was all this talk about democracy?

"The English guys are bad in this one, basically take whatever they say as crap and you'll pick it back up," he offered, shifting so that he had one knee up. For an instant he felt like he should move away from her, perceiving her still a child since she had been away for so long. It was a strange sort of guilt, and he wasn't sure where it had come from.

"Oh," nodded Shouko, remembering. When did things start blowing up? All she could see was a lot of people arguing. And the first scene had been so promising, too. "I knew they looked too perfect to be the good guys," she shrugged.
The plot was reminding her less of Eden now, which was a good thing. She relaxed her knees a bit, feeling less uncomfortable and defensive than she had before. She was glad the situation had worked itself out, or at least seemed like it had.

"Like cats?" he asked, hoping to find some sort of similarity. It wasn't that he didn't like cats, they just kind of creeped him out. "Actually, I was considering a pet for around here, it seems a little quiet. What do you think?" He shrugged, looking around the room, "A dog or something."

"A bit," said Shouko, finding the question a bit random. "I think you're more of a dog person. You need something you can chase around and play 'fetch' with."
She glanced around and agreed a bit, though he did need to finish unpacking first. "Are you allowed to have pets here?" she asked.

"Yeah, but only if they're under like fifty pounds," he explained, offering her a smile, "And that shouldn't be a big issue." He looked around the room in thought, which gave an interesting expression rarely seen on his face, "I was consideirng something like a boston terrier. What do you think?"

"Boston terriers, aren't those the ones with the weird egg-shaped heads?" asked Shouko, not really picturing Teagan with such an odd looking, stocky dog. He needed a retriever or something, though he wasn't allowed to have one. "They look like space aliens," she laughed. "I picture you with something a bit fluffier. And normal-shaped. Maybe a Jack Russel?"

"Aren't they a little barky?" he asked, not wanting to piss off his landlord while he was here. "I don't know," he admitted, "I'll probably just pick when I go to the pound. I don't really care too much about the breed, as long as it's friendly."

"They are," admitted Shouko. "I could see you with a scrappy sort of mutt, though," she added, grinning. "Black and white and scruffy, and then you and your dog would match!" She laughed and curled her legs under her, looking back to the television screen.
Well, now she was totally lost. Random pirates at a conference table anyone?

"Dude," he said suddenly, "When'd Elizabeth become a pirate king?" Maybe it was a little less interesting if he didn't know the whole plot. Well, it was kind of the same as last time. To be fair he was having a little more fun this time. "Haha, I hadn't thought of that. A Border Collie maybe?" he suggested.

"Hey, I want to be a pirate king!" exclaimed Shouko, finding this new development fantastic. She took a moment to pay attention to the dialogue. "Since Jack voted for her, apparently."
She gave him a sideways once-over, comparing him to the mentioned breed of dog. "I could see that," she nodded. "Sounds like a perfect match."

"Haha, that'd be cool. Queen Shouko, ruler of the high seas," he laughed, tucking his knees up onto the futon. He was starting to fidget again, that tended to happen when he hadn't had a cigarette or moved around in a while. He didn't really want to just get up and go trick and leave her behind, so he decided on the other option. "Hey Shou, you don't mind if I smoke, do you? I'll turn the fan on," he said, waiting for a reply before he made a move for his pack.
