Donovan shook his head, "Well, at least nothing the matter that is connected to the family or anyone you know in an immediate sense, but this is a business trip for me. I have full blessing to go hunt slavers, which is my main reason for being here."

He didn't know if knews had travelled to Ulani and Ulrich about the dwarves, or for that matter how Serenity was doing since who knew how many years since they were last here.

Cindy let Donovan speak, since he was really here for business, she was taking advantage of a trip. It was only when he finished that she speak up.

"I'm just here for education reasons," Cindy spoke up, "I'm a potion maker like Mom, and so I'm just here for the plants and to be away from home for once. Normally I'm not allowed to travel."

Ulani smiled warmly at Cindy. "Well, thanks to your father," she said, nodding at Donovan, "it's a lot safer here than it used to be. From what I hear, Serenity's felt a lot safer than she used to, and though the child slave trade is still going strong, it has slowly been breaking down over the years. Not to say that helps at all with the Freebooters or the Highwaymen, but still, every bit helps."

She shifte Adonai in her arms and beckoned for them to follow her into the kitchen.

"I apologize for the sleeping arrangements last night," she said sincerely. "Tonight I'm sure we could fix it ... if you'll be staying here, that is. Donovan, you said you're hunting? I imagine you'll be traveling for that ... but Cindy, will you be going with him or staying here?"

"I'll be staying here," Cindy explained, "I'm only here to learn and it was simple enough since he was already going to be here," she smiled.

She was perfectly fine with the idea of staying behind, she didn't want to be the one to see the slavers if it was that, nor did she want to be accidently kidnapped. Even though they would gain a nasty surprise if they did.

"Don't worry about it," Donovan replied, "It's what happens when you arrive without warning and very late at night," he added dryly.

He paused as if thinking about something and he had thought about it a lot at that night.

"Actually, I'll be here for probably another day, I need to get some information first, if you and Ulrich don't mind answering some questions."

"Absolutely," Ulani nodded, setting Adonai down on a chair and pushing him closer to the table. "But perhaps we should wait until after breakfast, when the children are occupied."

As much as the children did need to know about the world around them, they were still very young - Adonai, especially.

Aliya came into the kitchen just then, still in her night clothes, chattering away in elvish. Ulani put one hand up to stop her and admonished her, "English, Aliya. We have guests. Don't be rude."

Aliya giggled and jumped into the chair beside her brother. "Sorry," she said brightly, smiling at Cindy and Donovan. Then she looked back to her mother. "Father says he'll be a while and for you to make breakfast."

Adonai squirmed in his chair and tried to slip off of it unnoticed, eyeing the strangers warily.

"That is fine," Donovan agreed with her while Aliya delievered her message.

She was certainly a friendly one, or at least not as easily frightened, the poor kid looked like he was in a kitchen with wild animals or something. Was he and Cindy really that scary? Well.. .himself he could understand, he wasn't that good with kids, but Cindy looked like a child.

Cindy smiled at that, she tilted her head ever so slightly to see Adonai not too happy to be with them. She waved at him a bit trying to be friendly.

She had never known anyone to be afriad of her, she wasn't that scary, was she?

Aliya grinned at Cindy and looked very much as if she wanted to ask her a question, but was afraid of being rude again. She looked over her shoulder at Ulani as her mother began to prepare breakfast and spoke quickly in elvish.

Ulani laughed and replied in English, "No, I'm sure it's all right if you ask them questions." She looked back at Donovan and Cindy. "Isn't it?"

Adonai slipped off his chair and sat under the table, holding his knees to his chest, hiding - or at least thinking he was.

"I don't care," Donovan replied back.

He would have thought it odd if he didn't get any questions, besides he had a feeling he wasn't the odd one out of hte two.

Cindy smiled a bit as she spoke, "I don't mind," she held onto the table as she tilted herself sideways.

She peeked under to see Adonai there, she wondered why he was hiding.

Adonai's eyes grew wide and he shuffled backwards, away from Cindy, then turned and scrambled to his feet. He launched himself at Ulani's legs and clung tightly as if for dear life.

Ulani looked down and laughed, then sighed. "Ah, what am I going to do with you?" she murmured. She dropped what she was doing and knelt to pick him up, then cuddled him in her arms. "This," she explained to Donovan, "was why I had asked Ulrich to make breakfast in the first place." She sighed again. "I hope you don't mind a bit of a wait, I'm not going to get anything done with him like this."

Aliya giggled. "He's a scaredy cat," she told the others. She slid off her chair. "I'll go get Father," she announced; then, looking back over her shoulder as she left, she added, "But when I get back I want to ask questions!"

And then she was gone.

"A bit of waiting isn't going to kill us," Donovan was actually slightly amused, though he had to feel a bit sorry for the kid, "Is he always this nervous around... new things?"

Since he assumed that was why he was so frightened, after all Donovan was not like his parents or probably anyone else he had seen and Cindy was certainly an oddity.

"Am I really that scary?" Cindy asked Adonai gently.

Though she didn't know if he could understand her at all, like his sister.

"Unfortunately, yes," Ulani replied, brushing her son's hair back from his forehead. "But it doesn't take very long for him to get used to it. To be fair, you're the first human he's ever seen, and Cindy ... well ... you're the first person he's ever seen with wings."

She paused. "To be fair, it goes the same for Aliya, except for when Elnara and Lore were here, but she was just a baby then ... but she's just got a completely different personality."

She smiled encouragingly. "Don't worry about it. He'll calm down soon enough."

Adonai stared at Donovan and stuck one finger in his mouth, then pressed himself closer to his mother.
