“Ha-what?” he asks, feigning ignorance at the use of Celestial Name, “I think I’ll go bleed the lizard. Back in a tic.” As he walked to the bathroom, Hamael could barely contain his sadistic glee. Should he pull this guard apart limb by limb? Or turn him into a drooling imbecile? If he killed him flat out, that would certainly stir the proverbial hornet’s nest of trouble up, but it wouldn’t do the maximum amount of damage. They would bag him, tag him, the family would grieve and life would go on.

On the other hand…

Hamael strolled into the washroom, adjusting his tie his in the mirror. He also had a clear view of the guard’s back from the reflection. “You picked the wrong day to come to work, meat-puppet” Hamael thought.

OoC: >> "Maximum amount of damage." How deliciously evil. <<

Hamael's torment blasts deep into the guard's psyche, and the poor mortal whimpers as he urinates all over himself in blind panic. Crying hysterically, he staggers past his tormentor, eyes streaming, unable to focus on anything except getting away, far away.

Rampel looks up from the security console, an eyebrow raised as she sees the man tripping over himself to get out the main doors. "Next time," she says to no one in particular, "let him zip his pants up first." Between the nightmares and the indecent exposure charge, he won't be back on the job for a long time, if ever. The Malefactor taps a few more keys, and simultaneously deactivates the camera and alarm systems. Their anonymity is almost completely secure.

Sera looked around at all the different things and she decided to help with the mission however she could. She took a closer look at the book, trying to sense any power within it.

*OOC: using Lamp of Faith, rolling perception + alertness

She smiled brightly at the guard and asked in her child-like voice. "Excuse me, sir? I've always wondered how they restore antiques... could you possibly show us where it's done? Pretty please?"

Looking beyond the material world to glimpse the currents of Faith, Serys' fellow Elohim leap to the fore, appearing as luminous silhouettes. Rebner shows up as well, though nowhere near as bright. But most surprisingly, the book smolders in its case, appearing full of Faith, but not the flowing, living Faith that forms Serys' companions. Instead, it is static and shaped, tightly bound into its current form.

She returns to her normal mode of vision before asking to see the restoration facilities. The kindly guard, made all the more malleable by Ambriel's infernal charm, finds that he would be thrilled to escort this sweet young lady to wherever she might want to go. "Why certainly. Please, step this way, and we'll take the freight elevator down to the basement."

"My, perhaps I've overextended myself. I have a heart condition you see, and I feel faint from time to time. I think I noticed a bathroom back in the lobby, correct?"

Without waiting for an answer Ambriel continues:

"I think I shall go back and splash some cold water in my face. The shock is good for the nervous system you know.", Ambriel sticks one finger in the air to emphasize this last point, "Jeeves, if you would take my arm?"

He waves Isiac over.

"I feel as if I might collapse at any moment. Yes, yes, just like that. Have a good time dear and be sure to thank this wonderful wonderful man for his generosity. I really appreciate the tour Mr. Rebner, you're too kind."

Ambriel slowly walks with Isiac back to the lobby until the elevator begins its journey to the lower levels.

OOC: You'll have to bear with me here - for some reason I just can't get my head around what's actually happening at the moment. We're not actually going to the bathroom, right? Just buying time until they get in the lift?

OoC: >> Yes, that is correct. I believe Ambriel is putting on a show for the guard. Oh, and Daidoji, I allowed players to post slice-of-life snippets in the out-of-character thread for extra experience. This is still open to you, if you want it. <<

The lift doors close, and a rumbling is heard as Sera descends in the company of Mr. Rebner.

Immediately, Rampel's shout floats down from the gallery's entrance. "Alarms and cameras are disabled. You're cleared to act."

Isiac grins, his face lit with childish glee as he almost runs over to the tablet, slowing down only to be sure his companion can keep up.

He knocks into the cabinet, barely able to slow down in time, slowly running his fingers along the glass above the tablet "Oh she's beautiful, I'm not even sure it's worth the risk of damage taking her out the glass. Still, we're nothing if not creatures of action. Care for a closer look Mr. Stein?"

ooc:Can I use Lore of Portals for the cabinet?

OoC: >> Lore of Portals would be very appropriate. Should Isiac wish to open more than one case, I'll allow every extra success to open yet another case, just so we don't have to make multiple rolls. Difficulty is 6, due to the simple nature of the locks. <<

The cases, both for the book and the tablet, are all locked with heavy, antique, mechanical locks. Each one is sturdy enough to survive a few sledge-hammer blows or even bullets, but the mechanism is a relatively simple one.

Within easy reach of Isiac and Ambriel lay myriad treasures: the mysterious book, the ancient tablet, a 17th century Shakespeare collection that has come in for re-binding, and a handful of paintings by lesser-known artists of the Romantic period.

Ambriel remembers Rampel's words exactly: Give Isiac some time with the tablet.

He walks up beside the covetous Neberu and puts his left hand on the shoulder beside him. Leaning forward himself to get a closer look at the ancient tablet, he says, "I certainly hope you have a way to get in there. Otherwise we're going to have to break into the medieval weapons collection as well."

Isiac laughs "not to worry, my friend. It's been a long time since the human managed to create a lock that could hold me"

He ran his finger over the lock, gently probing it with his mind. It knew what he was of course, somewhere in the steel it remebered him as his ultimate creator, "open" he whispered

Somewhere deep within the steel that is its material form, the lock does indeed recognize the one-time seneschal of the cosmos, and hears his whispered command. It whispers back in a leaden voice.

"No."

Isiac snarls, fingertips digging slightly into the wood of the cabinets.

"Lets Try That Again" he spits through clenched teeth

ooc<<same again. High Torment version this time though, I think>>
PostPosted: Sat Apr 12, 2008 3:01 pm

OoC: >> rofl I'll lower the difficulty to 5, since the lock really wasn't supposed to be a challenge, so much as a chance to show off your lore. Two successes; I imagine you are going for the tablet. If you would like to apply your second success to opening another case, consider it too to be opened. <<

The rebellious lock resists, clinging to the natural laws of inertia and force, pleading that its state should not, could not change without direct physical force. It grinds its 'teeth' in agony, squeaking out a reply.

"Not... by the shavings... on my... pinny-pin-pins."

There is a slight squeak of metal grinding. The little bugger surrenders, and releases its catches, lest it be torn asunder. The lock drops to the floor with a heavy thunk.

Isiac picks up the lock, quickly slipping it into a pocket "I'll deal with you later" he mutters, before turning back to the cabinet

"Well now, here we go." He pulls on a pair of gloves before picking up the tablet "You're mine now, my beauty. It's a masterpiece, isn't it Ambriel? Every so often they produce something that suggests maybe they know more than they're letting on." He pauses "Of course, that just asks the question - if they knew what they were getting themselves into, why'd they go and do it?"
