tallfraekonleash Lelas tallfraekonleash has anyone ever considered that evolution is simply a tool used by god? That's my theory. Well o awsome im not alone >.< Yup, though I wouldn't put it that way. My 2 theories- God set up the world up so that intellegent life would be created in many places on many planets, possibly different universes, and sat back to watch, sending down spiritual messengers every now and then. Or, God set it up, and supervised evolution along it's course, so that things went the way He wanted, and sent down messengers to lead mankind spiritually.

i am bothered by people i call "biological fundamentalists", who will not discuss any questions concerning the theory, not even involving any faith issues but just things such as the rate and effect of mutations.
they act as though the fact that you have questions makes you ignorant or evil or both.
they simply say "there's the theory, all intelligent people believe it, just learn it. end of discussion."
which makes me suspect they don't understand it well enough themselves to really get into it.

chaoticpuppet do you believe we came about by evolution? EDIT: if other please specify which form of evolution. What do you mean, "What form"?

Contingent What do you mean, "What form"? Some people only believe in microevolution, without macro-evolution (personally, I see absolutely no logic in that stance).

I believe in evolution, there's just to much evidence that supports it to not believe in it. However, like others in this thread, I don't believe the big bang.

chaoticpuppet Contingent What do you mean, "What form"? Some people only believe in microevolution, without macro-evolution (personally, I see absolutely no logic in that stance). The way I see it, that stance is of someone who admits that, yes, okay, evolution occurs, we've seen it happen, but that doesn't mean that we evolved from single-cellular life-forms. Really, if they don't see that macroevolution just a lot of microevolution, then they haven't thought about it carefully. Sure, you could say, "Okay, evolution happens, but I still believe that the world was created 6000 years ago", that brings up another issue. The age-of-the-Earth issue. Anyway, I'm gonna edit that last post I made. Too long, too pointless. Okay, so here's what I have to say about evolution for now. It is one of the most misunderstood, (or wilfully misrepresented) theories in the history of science. To make this clear; One of the first three statements must be false, in order for the theory of evolution to be fallicious- the rest is logically implied. 1. There are variations in a population due to mutation.
2. Environmental factors cause some variations to be more likely to successfully lead to reproduction than others.
3. Descendants tend to inherit the features of their parent(s).
Conclusion 1. Therefore, consequent generations are therefore more likely to exhibit a variation which was successful in leading to reproduction.
Conclusion 2.Therefore, with each generation, there will be a larger percentage of the population which have this successful feature than those which don't.
Definition. When the majority of the population exhibits this successful feature, the species is said to "evolve".

Merlin the White I believe in evolution, there's just to much evidence that supports it to not believe in it. However, like others in this thread, I don't believe the big bang. Look, it's a scientific theory. You're never supposed to "believe in" scientific theories, including evolution. You're never supposed to just trust scientists for no reason. You're supposed to check out the evidence and see that the theory lines up. I've never studied the evidence for the Big Bang myself, except that I heard that the universe is expanding (and therefore must have come from one point, at some time) and so I don't have many thoughts on the Big Bang theory besides, "Maybe it's true." Note: I skimmed through an article about misconceptions about the big bang; apparently the theory is that space itself expands, not just substance within the space. That's how all the substance fit into the small space in the first place, or something. Which might also explain black holes, but I'm not educated enough to talk about this.

The evolution theory is amazing, and I do believe on it, eventhought it can't be completely proved...At least, for me, this is a suitable explanation of existance

Maybe you should have said something like "shouldn't blindly believe" or "Shouldn't believe without being informed."

The theory may be disproven/improved with time. Extraordinary claims need extraordinary evidence though.

I believe in evolution and that this entire world was a mistake and that unlike animals and other creatures who adapted to their surrondings and got smarter we (humans) got a lot stupider. So i think eventually the earth is just going to kill us off like the virus that we are.

I don't see other animals making elaborate shelters in which to live. 2. How are we humans any more of a virus than any other animal? Without the world, both us and the animals would be nothing.

One animals can live without elaborate shelters. Two they don't need everything we think we have to have. Three we have lost all touch with the land and animals. And we are stupider b/c WE are the ones hurting the earth b/c one of these days it's going to just get rid of us for it. And humans use to build long lasting natural elaborate monuments that last for centuries (hence egyptians, greeks, romans, ect.) and now we just make things that are going to kill us instead of making things that are going to help or just not makeing anything would be best. If you knew everything what would be the point of living. I hate modern technology it destroys what we already have which all we really need.
