I don't want to sound like a pessimist but, well here we go.
They said an asteroid is likely to hit the earth around 2029. Now, it won't certainly destroy all of humanity as we now it, but it will create major disasters. And let us not forget that's only one that has been discovered that is likely to impact the earth, who knows how many other astrological matters will hit us that have been undiscovered. P.S. scientist and other such people are hard at work on finding alternative fuels and already have many products and bi-products that can be used, such as athenol, nuclear, and solar fuels. So there will likely be no apocalypse caused by the running out of fossil fuels.

There is something that can be used that I hard of. You attach these probes to the asteroid and somehow the very tiny gravity of being in orbit pulls on them and slightly changes the course, which would alter exponentially.
