{ Det's so pretty! 4laugh heart }
Mikaila waited until Elit and Det were out of sight before taking her eyes off him. Something about him made her want to learn more about him, possibly to even just be considered a friend. She ambled over to where smooth, water washed stones lay in piles. Picking up what she could carry, she whistled on the way back.

(Thank you both! ^^ And I'm not gonna describe the hunting... I don't really feel like it. XP And I'll feel bad for the bunnies they're gonna catch. D; )
Once Mikaila had set up the ring of stones, Evi put the dry moss in the middle and set up the twigs in a teepee shape around it. Then, taking two of the larger twigs she had gotten, she rubbed them together until a spark dropped onto the teepee and started to eat away at the moss. Leaning close, she blew on it lightly, and the teepee caught on fire. Larger and larger twigs were added until she had no more, and it was time to use the driftwood that Sweetfern had collected.
Evisule smiled at the other two. "Beautiful! We make a great team, don't you think?" She giggled. "Now to wait for the boys to do their part." As she spoke, she set up a spit tied with some fibrous bark she had collected off some of the trees.
(I hope it doesn't seem like Evi was trying to do everything, just wanted to get things done, and Evi likes to take care of others/not give others all the work.)

Sweetfern wasn't concerned that Evi had gone ahead and finished all the work of building the fire; she settled down in the sand to watch, her silver eyes distant until the glow of the spark lit them with liquid orange. "Yeah, a great team," she said with a smile. It was interesting how similar the cervitaurs seemed to wolftaurs. Well, maybe not the pink one, but the other two. Eli was a hunter, like her brother, and Evi reminded her of her mother. She had never spent much time with any other races, so this would be a bit of a learning experience.

Mikaila was relieved that Evi did most of the work. Not that she wouldn't have helped, but she lacked the experience necessary to make something work without being injured in the process. With a smile, she settled down near the fire and looked at her companions. " A glorious team is more like it. " Her smile spread to a grin as she pulled her flute to her lips. Testing out a few notes, she paused. " How about some music to keep us company til' the men come back? " Music was her default when she couldn't think of an actual topic and right now, it seemed like the perfect idea.

"Oh, I'd love to hear some music!" Evi grinned. "I haven't heard any in so long... Other than the songs I sang to my adopted siblings when they were younger." She gestured to the flute. "Please, do play on."
Eli and Det were making their way back to the girls, each with a hare in each hand. They were quick and efficient hunters, only taking what they would need, since the fifth person could share with the other four.
"So... you've certainly got yourself a pretty one, eh, Eli?" Detnuadnu grinned at his friend, who merely raised an eyebrow.
"What? I wouldn't exactly call either of these rabbits 'pretty'..." Eli inspected the two he held.
The wolftaur laughed. "No, tree-head, I'm not talking about those, I'm talking about that cervi girl back there! You two would make a pretty pair. That is, if you'd stop being so stubborn, and open your heart again."
Eli frowned. "You know I can't do that. Mikaila... she's nice, I'll admit, but... you know my reasons."
He rolled his eyes. "Just because some girl you liked a whole lot when you were younger was-"
"She wasn't just 'some girl', and I'm not like you, Det, I don't go after every nice-looking girl I see!" His voice had only raised slightly, but Det could tell that Eli wasn't in the mood to discuss it. But then, the cervi never was.
Deciding to let it go, for now, Det proceeded to change the subject. "I'm hurt," he replied, pouting and holding a hand to his heart as if Eli had stabbed him. The rabbit in that hand flopped against his torso. "I do have standards, you know. They can't just be nice-looking, they have to be simply gorgeous."
"Yeah, right." Eli snorted. "And they have to be very flirtatious and simple-minded so that they'll fall for your charms."
Det grinned. "True, but Sweetfern's different. Her personality rivals mine, you know. She may even be a better flirt than I."
"Sweetfern?" Eli raised an eyebrow. "You're calling her by name? I may not have known you that long, but I've never heard you refer to one of your female 'friends' by name. You normally say, 'this one's different'."
His grin grew wider. "Told you. Of course, how she feels is an entirely different matter. She could just be using me like I've used so many other pretties. But then, I'm not so sure that's a bad thing either." He winked, while the cervi just shook his head, rolling his eyes.

She simply nodded in agreement with Evi. Certainly Sweetfern loved music and was interested in listening because of that, but she also had another interest. How did the music of cervitaurs compare to the music of wolftaurs? She would never say it out loud, but she suspected that wolftaur music was better. And not just because she was a wolftaur, no! ... well, maybe just because she was a wolftaur. Wolftaurs seemed, to her, to have more energy and liveliness, which certainly transferred over to their music. But she would have to see. She hugged herself and watched Mikaila with a smile.
It was getting dark, already? Wow... he had not counted on this. What was he to do? His parents always called him in from playing just after the sun set, and he moped and whined and tried to stay out longer until his father had to come out and carry or drag him inside. One thing he was most looking forward to about running away was being able to stay outside after dark.
But this place... this place where the vast blackness of the thing that had been so big and blue during the day -- a fallen section of the sky, he believed -- met the sand and the forest loomed darkly, whispering and watching him in his stumbling trek across the beach... This place was so scary! The baby cervitaur didn't want to play anymore. He wanted to curl up next to his brother and go to sleep.
When he distinctly heard some voices in the trees nearby, he yelped and balled his hands into tiny fists. He wasn't going down without a fight! But the voices just continued onward, getting further away so that he could barely hear them. And good riddance!
Suddenly he was seized with a fear stronger than he had ever known. "Don't leave!" he shouted, his voice a high-pitched whine quite unlike him. He couldn't let the voices leave him all by himself. He bounded into the forest, hooves churning the sand and then the fallen leaves, making such a racket that a sleeping crow was dislodged from its perch and sent cawing raucously into the sky.
Furze sprinted toward the two hunters, not knowing or caring who or what they were, nor caring how many times he slammed against trees and tripped on roots and was scraped by low branches. He would not be left alone.

Smiling sweetly, the cervitaur rolled her shoulders and began to play. As was the sea's dark and mysterious, so was her song. The tune started out as a low whisper that gradually grew. She resisted the urge to turn it into something meant for dancing, like her heart so desperately wanted to. However, she settled into a rhythmic pattern that could play just as beautifully until the males returned.

Staring at the fire with her eyes half-closed, Evisule's mouth curled at one end into a slight smile as she listened to the fluting. It was beautiful music, the kind that one could get lost in and not find their way out unti lthe tune changed. Even though she had never met a satyr, the cervi guessed that Mikaila's fluting was at least as good as the goat-leggeds' legendary skill.
Both of the males perked up as they heard somehting that sounded like a small taur calling out to them. Elitalov shoved his rabbits into Detnuadnu's hand and moved toward the sound, thrusting his arms into the underbrush where it moved, and picked up a- what was it? "I think it's a little cervitaur, Det!" he called back to the wolftaur. "Hey little guy, you okay? Got a few scratches, huh?" he commented, holding the little white cervi close. He wasn't really the best with kids, but he knew someone who was. "Don't worry, we'll take you to someone who can clean those cuts for you... and you can eat some rabbit meat... and sit next to a warm fire... and you'll be protected, and safe..."
He went on like that, speaking of the nice points of where they were going in a soothing voice, like Evi had had to do for him so many times before (even though it should have been the other way around), as Det followed next to him, back to the fire.
Evi was startled out of her music-induced trance at the sound of Eli and Det tromping through the forest to them, the guys not even bothering to try to muffle their sounds now that they had finished hunting. Smiling as she saw their outlines, Evi jumped to her hooves when she noticed Eli carrying something that resembled a baby taur. "Oh Eli, what-?" she exclaimed, but her brother cut her off.
"We were on our way back when he came out of nowhere," Eli smiled slightly. "He's got a few cuts..."
"Oh, you poor thing!" Evi gently took the little white one from Eli, cuddling him close with an expert hold that was probably more comfortable for him than how Eli had been holding him. "What's your name, hmm, sweetie? Oh," she turned to the other two females, "do either of you have anything I could use to clean his cuts with? Cloth and fresh water kind of things?"
Det, not used to doing anything with little kids except teaching them play-fighting and other games, was now setting up the rabbits on the spit over the fire. He didn't feel awkward not helping though, he was used to not being able to do everything.
Eli, on the other hand, was obviously uncomfortable, and didn't like feeling helpless; he hadn't liked the feeling even before Naina had been killed. He stood a few feet away from Evi, frowning in her and the baby's general direction, but not at them so much as at the situation, which he was probably making out to be worse off than it really was.

To her surprise, Sweetfern found herself captivated. She didn't have time to compare it to anything before she was in a place in her mind where there are no words. The wolftaur listened with her mouth open a little, watching Mikaila's fingers in an empty way, as if dazed.
Furze whimpered and wriggled a bit when he was picked up, but when he heard the voice he calmed down. It was just a normal voice. These were just normal hands. Nothing to be afraid of. When he managed to get a look at whoever had picked him up he saw the antlers and realized that he was among his own kind again. So far he hadn't been recognized, though, so he snuggled up against the adult and listened to the vibrations of his voice, tiny arms wrapped around the large forearm holding him. Mm, rabbit meat, that sounded good. He had run away from home before getting to eat dinner.
It wasn't the sound of the guys approaching that broke the spell; that would not have been enough. Evi's movement was what caused Sweetfern to jerk back to herself and look around to see what had happened, then rise to her paws for a closer look.
"Aww," she breathed at the sight of the baby. It being a cervitaur baby its legs seemed a little too long and skinny, but it was still cute. She shook her head at Evi's request. "I don't have anything on this isle but myself and my boat." Biting her lip she glanced away and noticed Det. She smirked. There he was, so unconcernedly going about his own business. What a guy.
But in all seriousness, she appreciated a guy knowing what he was good at and what he was not. And she was not going to be very helpful with the cervitaurs. She sidled back toward the fire and settled down. "A successful trip," she commented, nodding at how many rabbits the hunters had caught.
When he was transferred over to another cervitaur's arms he gripped the first one tighter, resisting at first, but then he gave in and clung to the second one. She asked him his name! What was he going to say? If they knew his family he'd have to go back home and be in trouble some more. He squirmed into a position where he could look up at them all. "I'm... I'm Furze but don't tell Mommy and Daddy I'm here!" Then he pressed his head against her shoulder and hoped that they would still give him some rabbit even though he was a bad boy.

If only for the turning of the others, Mikaila halted her music and looked to see what the mighty hunters had brought back. Being a vegetarian, she cringed at the sight of rabbit but was delighted to see a child. As strange as it was, she felt warmth gather up in her chest at seeing Eli hold the fawn. It just seemed right.
Smiling brightly, she peeped into her pack to gather up some herbs and other such equipment to treat the little one. Being a mother herself helped her to be prepared in these such situations. " Come here, little Furze, " Mikaila bent down to his level while squishing up a wad of leaves. She proceeded to place them into her cupped fist and mix them with water, taking just small dabs to his wounds, holding it all in place with a rag. " You know, I think that you and my son would make great friends. If I would have thought of it, I would have brung him along with me so that you wouldn't be stuck with such boring adults. " She stuck out her tongue, " How about that food, then? "

"Successful?" Det grinned up at Sweetfern. "Are you talking about the rabbits, the kid, or just overall getting to spend time with me?" He winked. "On that note, have you thought up your weapon yet?"
Evi blinked. "Why Furze, have you run away from home?" She held the little cervi carefully in a position that would be comfortable for him yet still allow Mikaila to tend to his cuts.
At this Eli couldn't help but smile a little, remembering all the times he himself had run away from- well, not home so much as his parents. Hearing Mikaila, he tilted his head, but before he could ask his sister beat him to it.
"You have a son?" Evi grinned, always interested in children. "Really? With who? Or was he adopted?" Eli raised an eyebrow at her, and she blushed. "Oh, sorry, don't mean to pry. It's just, I've adopted many siblings... in the time Eli and I were separated." She grinned up at her brother. "And as I'm sure he and they will all agree, I love kids. And taking care of, well, everyone." She giggled shyly, hoping she didn't sound stuck-up in her confidence of her abilities.

Furze nodded at the green cervitaur and said proudly, "I runned away!" He was relieved. It didn't sound like they knew him or his parents. He held still for the pink-striped cervitaur to see to his cuts and giggled when she said the adults were boring, but he couldn't help but thrash around happily when she mentioned food. "Food, food! Yes yes!"
Oho, he was a sly one -- he'd almost caught her off-guard. Or he might have just been extremely full of himself. Either way she cocked her head to one side and said sweetly, "Two out of the three." Then she tossed her hair back. "But I'll let you guess which two."
She hadn't thought of what weapon she would want yet, but she had thought of some she wouldn't. For example, she didn't want anything that was the same as her weapons-loving brother had, which included a spear and a knife. That would be boring. She wanted something interesting that would make him jealous, but also something that she would use, for she didn't frequently hunt or fight.
"How about... hmm... an axe?" That was something she might use in her work. And Fisk would probably be begging her to let him borrow it. Ha, ha. She liked that idea. "Nothing too heavy or unwieldy. An elegant axe. Is there such a thing?" Of course there was. The question was, could he make such a thing? She had a feeling that despite the silliness of all his bravado, he was probably a skilled smith and could do it.

Mikaila giggled and poked his nose. " It seems that someone is mightily excited. " Rising up, she brushed sand off her pelt and looked at Evi. " Let's just say that under unfortunate circumstances I am now the mother of two rather wild centaur boys. "
Her head was filled with images of a rather energetic Ribbon and whiny Rylin. They sent her through hell and back sometimes but she wouldn't change anything about them. " Oh now, Mikaila, don't go bragging. " Walking from the tree line, Fiore passed a gentle smile to the group. He didn't know why she was with them when she told him over and over again to meet her at the waterfall but he couldn't help but smile. Not many taurs ever got the pleasure of knowing the gentle hearted centaur. " Fiore! " She squeeled. Taking a great running leap, she bounced across great lengths of sand to get in a prime position to throw her arms around his neck and drag them both down. In a giggling fit, she appologized frequently. " Are you going to introduce me? " He looked to the others. Two adult centaurs who by their colorings, he assumed were siblings, two adult wolftaurs and a babe. " If you'd wished me to stay back I would have gladly done s- "" Oh no! " Mikaila shook her head furiously. " Come, come! " Grabbing his arm, she dragged him back with her to the fire. It must have been a sight. A little petite pink woman dragging along a rather tall, much her elder cervitaur behind him as if he were a child.

"An 'elegant axe'?" Det repeated, stroking his chin and imaginary beard. "Never really seen one before, but I'm sure I can do it. Let's say... about a foot and a half to two feet, hmm? The blade itself could then be about six to nine inches..." He muttered to himself a little, sizing up Sweetfern and what her axe size would be like, then stopped abruptly. "Wait, would you rather it be longer? And the design could be something like this..." He traced a design in the sand by the light of the fire with a blade similar to link, and an intricate handle. "I can also engrave the handle and blade with whatever you'd like." He smiled at her, the prospect of making a new weapon always exciting to him, not to mention a challenge he was sure he would do well at. "It'd be best for the handle to be made of wood, although some blacksmiths would say bone," he rolled his eyes, obviously unimpressed with their skill, "wood is much sturdier, bone is too brittle. I think ash would be best for an axe handle."Failing to supress a smile at Furze's enthusiam, Evi sighed. "Well Furze, we'll have to try and help you to get back to your family tomorrow, but for now," she glanced at the rabbits roasting over the fire, "food will be ready soon, okay?"
Eli started when Fiore 'appeared', restraining himself enough so that his surprise wasn't too noticeable. But of course, his grumpiness was obvious in his face and crossed arms. He was unhappy enough that Det had brought Sweetfern and Evi had invited Mikaila, but now there was another one? With flowers in his antlers, no less. The frowning green cervi did admire the other's unique eyes though, although since it was dark out he wasn't completely sure if that wasn't just a trick of the firelight.
Evi, however, grinned from where she sat on the ground, carefully getting up with the little white child still in her arms. "Good evening, I'm Evisule, and this is my brother Elitalov. Oh, and this is Furze," she added, cuddling the little one closer.Det stood up as well, holding his arm out for the same lower-arm clasp he and Eli had shared earlier. "Detnuadnu," he said simply, nodding his head once in greeting. He assumed Sweetfern would prefer to introduce herself, since they weren't yet connected in any special way. With an emphasis on yet.(*had to ask her dad about the axe handle, since he made knives, swords, axes and so on and therefore knows more than she does* XD)

Furze started to whine when Evi said she was going to have to bring him to his parents, but he was distracted by the appearance of another taur. Another cervitaur?! He hid his face in the corner of Evi's neck and shoulder and peeked out carefully to see if he was recognized.
She watched him with a smile and lifted brow, always interested in watching an artisan at his work, being one herself. "Ahh that looks good. How about... some kind of..." She shifted closer and reached past him to add a fish to the blade. It looked a lot like the decoration on her boat. "Maybe some waves on the handle, that would look good too."
As she straightened up a lock of her hair slid over his arm, and she flicked it behind her shoulder with a sly look behind the orange glow in her eyes. She brushed the sand from her fingers. Then a new cervitaur came from the trees. In an anxious moment she noted how very outnumbered the two wolftaurs were... But don't be ridiculous, she told herself. She watched Det rise and slowly followed, lifting a hand to greet the newcomer. "I'm Sweetfern."
