Songs downloaded can sound just as good as a CD (If not, better... like Arvis was saying).

And there's nothing wrong with files. I love my ipod. It's easier and more convenient than carrying around a CD book and a clunky CD player.

I never said files can't, because some of those files can be ripped from CD's. I trust pretty much all downloadable music stores but iTunes because I've listened in comparisons and when comparing the CD's to the iTunes music, the iTunes music just sounds worse. Even when removing the DRM and converting it to high quality. I think iTunes just makes it lower quality to appeal to 56k connections.

My post wasn't in response to yours... I was just stating my opinion.

Just because you don't have a 5-page picture and lyric with a plastic case or a record made out of wax/plastic doesn't mean you'll have shitty value.

It was already established that there can be better audio than from CDs.

It's fine for portable use but portable music isn't a person's home listening system. Portable is definitely not my main way of listening though I still listen to it portable. Yes there all these attachments and components for that but I noticed the first time I listened to a song from my Ipod is that it didn't sound as good as I thought it would. It's fine for portable use but portable music isn't and won't be my main source of music listening.

I'll put my CD's onto a ipod for portable use but that won't be the only or main place my music is. This is a little off topic but the first time I listened to my Ipod I thought it sounded like I was listening to it in a tin can. It don't like ear plugs I like a certain type of headphones and I used that too and I just didn't sound right. That's not why I don't have one now technical problems with it was the reason for that.

I just won't buy a file. I can buy a CD and use that for home use and an mp3 for portable. I just won't have my music collection only available on harddrive or my ipod. That's no way to have a music collection. I see an Ipod for portable use. Some people see it as their main source of music and all the music they own is only there. That I don't want. I can live with putting my CDs on the for portable use. I just won't ever get rid of them and have my harddrive/ipod/mp3 player as a container for my entire collection.

Ace you need to read my last post as according to your posts you didn't read it as I agreed there can be better audio than CD. Your just repeating.

I think I can see what Mr. Wak is saying. Ultimately, I think, it is better to own an actual CD of a band's music. You know you're getting high quality (downloads can be hit or miss) and it's kind of cool to have a physical, tangible thing you can see and touch in relation to the music that you hear. If I really like a band or am impressed with a certain album release, I'll still go out and buy the CD. I only download songs if I only want one or two songs from a certain CD.

My most recent purchases are the new albums from The Bravery, Under The Influence Of Giants, and Rock Kills Kid. You guys should check them out. mrgreen

My parents have a ton of records, you know music medium the came out before casets. They agreed to let me convert their entire collection into MP3s. They let me do this because these records took up too much space. There were cabinets full of old records from the 1940 to the 1980s.

I'm sorry about that. This morning and more so last night I had the worst headache of my life. D: I was really edgy. I shouldn't have been cocky like that.

@Griggle990: I actually collect Beatles (and other bands I like) records. I have albums and singles. I have many of them pictured in my journal if you'd like to see them. biggrin

@Arvis: I download but only things I can't find elsewhere. I've been trying to find out of print albums and such and I can't even find them as a download. On ebay it's only on record and I'm actually looking for the CD and on Amazon it's priced really high.

You saw the size of my CD collection in the gaming space thread. lol

Dude! You have too many records, you need to convert them to either PM3s or CDs.

Yeah, I can understand wanting a physical thing. But I'm not going to agree that digital audio is only good for portability. Get a nice stereo system set up with a very nice sound card on your computer, and you have it made. Probably better than CD's.

But yes, I understand why you would want something physical. I myself would probably be all digital since I'm at my computer most of the time sweatdrop

But Arvis is right, downloads can be hit or miss in quality. And I myself just don't trust iTunes because the audio never sounds as good as ones ripped from CD's to me. They have to appeal to 56k users, and I myself am not too fond of the AAC format. Not saying it's bad, but I don't think it's as good as OGG Vorbis or MP3.

Anyway, what was I saying? Oh yes, it's hit or miss with downloads so it's pretty smart to get a CD instead and just rip them to your computer if you want. Because then if you lose the CD or something happens to it, you'll have some nice copies on your computer mrgreen

Or vice versa. xD

Something horrendous could happen to your computer unexpectedly and your CD's can be your back up.

*nods* Indeed, hard drives don't last forever. It's good to have backups on your computer and make a back up CD for your original. That way, you have 3 sources. There seem to be a lot of rules with 3 xd 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food if I remember correctly. 3 branches of government. 3 just works really well xD Random I know
