The mare listened to the other's ramblings about his parents relationship and his father in general and couldn't help but smile. Sounded a bit like...Hm. Eyes looked at him quietly for a very, very long time. Definitely would have to ask about it later. Still, it seemed like this stallion was making her laugh far easier than any others she'd met - male or female.

"Oh, devoted, indeed. They're the kind of couple that makes Soquili want to excrete bunny rabbits and spit up rainbows in every sense of the word. They give everyone around them a sweet tooth with how they are with each other and you can just feel how much they love each other. Kind of stifling when you wonder if you'll ever have such a thing." the last sentence was mumbled lightly under her breath and her head shook a moment later, "But it doesn't matter. It takes all kinds, and if it works for your parents, it works! And if not, it doesn't. No worries. Now, this sister of yours. Your eyes just light up when talking about her. Close, I take it?"

It troubled him that such a companionable and beautiful mare would seem to have such doubts about finding her own happiness. He was about to protest when she asked about his sister, and he was completely distracted.

He smiled hugely, not the most attractive with pink juice stains on his teeth, but he positively glowed anyway. "Amary is my sister, and she is my Sunset." He said it with such emphasis, it brought to mind the most magnificent sunset one had seen. "Yes, we are very close. She knows me best, out of everyone in this wide world." His language shifted a bit, becoming more expansive as he let himself expound upon her. "She inherited our father's wings, and she uses them beautifully." He sighed happily at the thought. "She likes to show off, just to make me proud of her." He flashed Gemma a grin. "As if I could be any MORE proud."

Now it was his turn to be curious. His ears flicked forward to show his interest. "Now about this human village you were talking about... what is it like? I've never really been near the two-leggers." He pawed one hoof eagerly. "What are they like? What do they eat? Not soquili, I hope?" The sudden flash of imagination of being hunted by humans like the mountain lions hunted them was evidence of his typical ability to slide into daydream. This time he didn't slide too deep though, and was clearly bursting with more questions.

Ahh, he looked like the children of the village when the adults gave them their treats for good behavior the way his entire demeanor shifted. Gemma would definitely have to meet the sister that he spoke of so fondly. It reminded her of her bond with her own siblings and any stallion who could have such a lovely bond with family was wonderful.

"It's rather nice. They live in Teepees - and no, they don't eat Soquili. They take care of our kind, actually. They eat berries and fish and other things like rabbits and buffalo. They're like...Soquili but with two legs and hands that likes to eat meat."

That was the best way to really describe it, "They can't understand us, though." It would be nice if they could. Then Gemma could ask so many questions!

His brow furrowed as he wrapped his mind around what she was describing. It would have been a difficult thing, if he hadn't had the imagination he'd been gifted with. But as he formed the imaginary two-legger, adding this, taking that away, the image he ended up with was too comical to be valid. He broke into a chuckle and shook his head. "Imagining won't do me any good this time, I don't think." He gave her a wistful, hopeful look. "Perhaps you could take me? Introduce me to these humans of yours?"

His flowerless tail swished excitedly at the thought of meeting beings so like them, but so different. Though the communication thing was a bit of a stickler. "And if they can't understaand us, how do you get them to show you anything?" For she had said she'd learned from them, after all. But it wasn't on purpose on their part, perhaps? "And... why can they not understand us, but we can understand them? Or can we?" His eyes had a bright light as he explored all the whats and whys of this new idea, and his hindquarters shifted from side to side.

"Sure, I'll take you sometime. We can understand them because the language they speak isn't necessarily hard to learn. But I guess our language is difficult for them to learn, and we, for some reason, can't speak the way they do. At least that's how I understand it...sort of." She really had no idea how it worked but it seemed logical to her. "I simply watch and observe. I learn by listening, not by being shown."

At least, not on purpose! She mused on it for a moment before she remembered she was going to ask him something, "I hope you don't find this a too odd question, but are you Guilian's son?" She'd never met the cardinal stallion herself, actually, but her father never talked fondly of him, nor did her mother. And it was usually because of his mare loving ways, which seemed to slightly fit with the other's description.

He was surprised by her sudden question. He paused, the excited light fading as his focus shifted from the nebulous humans to his own father. "Why yes, he is," he replied. Then a thought occured to him, and he again flushed. He seemed to be doing that a lot today. Of course, spending time with an unfamiliar mare would do that to him.

"You haven't... he hasn't... uh... with you....," he trailed off weakly. "Has he?" He was devastated. If it wasn't a mare who dropped him like a broken toy, it was a mare who had slept with his father? His whole demeanor drooped. He cast her an apologetic look, unsure of what to do now.

Ah, so it was just like she thought! Well, she'd omit that detail from her father and all would be good. After all, she much liked the stallion's company and she'd rather not be 'forbidden' from seeing him. Even if she WAS an adult now, she'd rather not have her father's wrath. "Just as I thought the--What?" Confusion immediately hit her face.

And then the look of apology and...devastation hit him and she blinked a few times. "Hasn't....? What do you m--Oh. OH!" Color raised and golden eyes widened, "No! No. I mean. Oh god. No!" She'd never done anything of the sort before, thank you very much!

Her confusion and then stark chagrin at the very suggestion almost made him want to laugh, though whether in humor or relief he wasn't sure. He stifled the urge, though, and moved to nuzzle her in a different sort of apology. "I'm terribly sorry," he ducked his head and leaned against her slightly, shoulder to shoulder. "Just, when you asked, and I stopped to think... I worried that you and him had... well....," he gulped a bit. "And... I was sorta... disappointed. I'm sorry I suggested it, though." He again nuzzled her gently. He didn't try to ask her why she had asked the rather odd question, for fear of upsetting her more. He didn't like seeing her so shocked, especially by something he'd said.

"Why don't you tell me about your father instead?" He thought maybe steering away from his own father might be a good idea at this point. "I'm guessing he's a wind?" He lipped gently at her wings with a smile.

The blush wasn't fading any time soon and it was only enhanced by the nuzzle that she was given, eyes slipping shut as she tried to regain her composure, "No, no, it's okay. I just. I've never...Urm...And I..." babbling, Gemma. Get a hold of yourself, Gemma. Her head turned inward to nuzzle him in return a moment later, the blush finally settling down. Thank god for dark coats.

"My father and your father are from the same 'herd', I think. My father does not talk of yours well." That much was true, but she didn't quite know why. "And yes, he's a wind. Zaphiro. A beautiful blue and gold stallion that my eldest brother takes after perfectly. My other older brother takes after my mother. Me? I'm the perfect mixture of the two." she smiled, proud of that fact - though she still said she should have gotten the damned horn. "He's very polite and proper and only lightens up with my mother around. Very protective. Just like that stupid hawk of his, Zaris. Though Zaris is more sexist than my papa."

His hide prickled and tingled, as if his hair were standing on end. It all focused on the spot where she'd nuzzled him, and he thought in a dazed fashion that perhaps a storm was on its way. Surely that was the only thing that could carry electricity like that? Or... was it? He shuddered his hide and gazed at her with growing appreciation. Maybe storms weren't the only thing after all.

When he let her words sink in, he found it odd. Her father didn't like his father? Whyever not? And they were in the same herd? Father had mentioned no herds. He found it very strange. But Zaphiro certainly sounded like a nice enough stallion. Leon wondered in the back of his mind whether this wind would approve of his daughter talking with the son of someone he so clearly didn't like. The purple stallion chose not to let it worry him. Time enough for worries about her parents and what they thought of him, right?

It didn't even dawn on him that his thoughts were betraying him. Worrying about what parents thought was the concern of a suitor, after all.

One advantage of being winged was that a great deal of ground could be covered in a small amount of time. In Zaris' case, speed had always been his friend as he accompanied his bonded Zaphiro about or, as was more often the case these days, tracked down his children. Now that the three were adults this was a less arduous task, as they didn't need to be monitered, but he was still sent forth from time to time to relay messages.

Today, he was out on one such errand, in search of the three to let them know that their parents wanted to have supper together. While they often met for meals and socialization, occassionally Zaphiro and Hienna liked having their whole family together, and today was one such day. He'd already found Raphael and Aedelstan, and now was on the hunt for Gemma.

Granted, that wasn't that hard; she shone like a jewel even in darkness, and never went so far afield that he couldn't find her with a little effort. Or even less.

In fact, no sooner had he reflected on that than the familiar blue-violet caught his eye, and he smiled at the sight of the mare far below. Looked like she was talking to someone, too...but she could talk to them later. Wheeling for a moment to get his bearings, the hawk then went into a graceful dive, one that would take him right down to the mare.

Gemma caught Leon's gaze for a long moment and she allowed a smile to flop over her features quite easily. There was some kind of odd companionship that she felt here. Something nice. She definitely wanted to spend more time with this stallion! She was about to say as much when she felt Zaris swoop down by gust of wind.

"...Zaris," she muttered. It was like saying his name summoned him. She'd have to be careful about uttering the syllables, then, didn't she? "Is there a good reason you're tailing me this evening or is it just for your own amusement?" No, she didn't much like the hawk and even if she WAS usually polite, he'd just interrupted a very nice moment.

Irritable, Gemma? Yes, yes she was.

Leon blinked and instinctively stepped back, away from Gemma, when the hawk appeared. Clearly the mare wasn't pleased to have been sought out, so he was guessing this must be her father's hawk. He gave the bird an intent look, as if to learn the whys of the dislike of his father merely by studying the bird. It was certainly a brilliantly colored bird, to be sure, but also a no-nonsense sort of air to him.

He took one more step away from Gemma, just to be sure not to irritate the ambassador of the stallion he might need to please before long... at the thought he cast Gemma an intent look in her turn. Was there something here? Or was he just being whiney after what had happened with the sea-mare? He took a deep breath. Only time would tell, he supposed. If it was meant to be, it would be. All the fairytales agreed on that, after all. Quietly he waited for what might happen next, eyes shifting from mare to hawk.

Alighting with pronounced grace on the bush, Zaris folded his wings back with an air of complete regality in spite of her obvious dislike of his appearance. That was hardly a shocker, and wouldn't ruffle him even if it was meant to be; he was on a mission, and THAT was important.

So he merely stood impassively, giving both Soquili first a short, formal bow of greeting. "My apologies for interrupting your conversation, Gemma, but I've been sent to let you know that your parents would like you to join them tonight for a family meal; both of your brothers will be there, and they'd all like if you would attend as well." Short, sweet, and to the point. "If you're willing to attend, then I'd suggest immeadiacy; if not, I'll convey your regards." The beady-eyed look he gave her as she spoke implied that he certainly hoped she'd make the right choice, however, and that she ought to know what that choice entailed!

Ahh, and now Leon was stepping away! She felt a small pang of disappointment and she took a breath, "I suppose I have to go, Leon. Family meals are something that are very important to everyone in our family." she let a smile of fondness cross her lips, taking the edge of annoyance away from the gemling, "And no, I'm not going just because you're here, Zaris, if you wanted to believe that."

Gemma shook her head and took a step toward Leon, pressing an affectionate nuzzle to him, "Take care of yourself, and don't you dare forget to eat. Thank you for patching me up, Leon. I hope I see you again." she flashed a happy look his way before it faded - but only when she looked to the bird again, "Off we go, then."

And with that, the gemling disappeared into the trees.
