"He's pretty, miss," Rosalie said politely, as if she were reserving her smiles for Victor and Victor alone. "And he's kind, and quiet. He reminds me more of a doll than a baby, please don't take it wrongly." She brushed at the babe's hair, smiling pleasantly at him the entire time.
Aure watched the three warily. Something was weird here.

Josie inclined her head a bit. "He does...doesn't he?"
And he did! Victor wriggled a little, as children that age are apt to do, but the pale skin and the innocent blue eyes were what doll dreams were made of. He waved at Rosie softly, as she and his mother looked down at him, beckoning her to continue playing with the deed he now associated her with. The girl was meant to please him!
The woman smiled at the infant's effort to communicate and offered up her finger to brush at his hand. This caused him to open it fully and expose to Rosie the small glass pane that betrayed his race to any normal human. It didn't seem to bother the mother though. "Did you know that he tastes like white chocolate tea and raspberries?"

She giggled. "Really?" The purple beyond the glass was so pretty, but she much preferred the texture of his hair to any artifice perpetrated by his race. "But how do you know?"

Josie paused. She hadn't thought how she was supposed to explain that. She gingerly pulled her hand away and rubbed the back of her head, chuckling nervously. "I...was bored...at the time. That's how I know."

"Oh," Rosalie said, still confused by Josie but not showing it. "But... that's not an explanation, miss." She looked up at the other and pouted a little, just enough to get even Fres to answer her questions. "Please?"
Aurelius caught Victor's hand in her left- the only one she seemed to be using- and looked at the glass box, then dropped it. "Hmph," she said, looking away.

She hadn't expected the girl to catch up on that. Josie blushed slightly and patted Victor gently upon the head. "Well...he looked like cotton candy when he was a whisp so...I kinda nibbled him. A little." Josie didn't quite know how they would react to that, so she watched the two carefully. It was then she noticed the lack of movement in Aurelius's right hand. "Umm...beg pardon, but your hand...is it alright?"

Rosalie's mouth formed a round 'oh' of astonishment. "Really?" She blinked down at the baby. "He was a wisp?" Her smile came back. "Oh well. It doesn't matter."
She stood up too quickly, cracking her right wrist on the side of the bench. Aure winced and cradled it in her other hand. "Rosalie, we're leaving," she snapped. "Come on."
"But... I don't..."

Josie pushed herself up and manuvered over towards Aurelis. Without warning, she reached out and swiped at the area just above the wrist, attempting to get ahold of it before the girl could move. However, she wasn't sure of just HOW fast Aure was, so her hopes lie in the first attempt or her impromptu patient would bolt and probably outrun her.
Victor curled into Rosie as the older female snapped. He didn't like the sound! He'd learned that sound. The man that his mother lived with got angry sometimes...and bad things would happen. Not that it was often - but the child had learned it in the one instance and now whimpered as he tried to hide within the girl.

It was the lack of warning and the pain in her wrist that made Josie's catch of Aurelius's wrist so easy. "What the hell," she yelled, "Let go, you psycho!" Her fingers curled a little, as if trying to make a fist, but they seemed to pause in an awkward position- a sure sign the wrist was broken.
The girl cradled Victor closer, bending over him almost protectively. "It's okay, I promise," she said to him. "I'll keep you safe even if she does go crazy."

Josie shook her head. She gripped the area a little tighter for a few seconds before relinquishing the pressure and looking at it. "Your wrist is broken. Judging by how you're unable to pull away from me right now, or clench your fish properly - the joint and possibly the scaphoid are broken. Not to mention the ulna.." Josie leaned down and touched two fingers delicately to the skin. "Avedis did this, didn't he? The way your wrist is damaged, you would have had to have been in a confrontation." She then turned her sights to her supplies. "I...I think I might be able to set the bones right with the plaster and bindings I bought. It isn't exactly the cast or splint I would have liked but it will suffice. That is, if you'll sit still and let me fix it."
Victor turned his face into her and quietly whimpered.

"It's none of your business," she snapped again, "If I wanted it fixed, I'd be in the hospital right now. Rosalie!"
Rosalie shook her head and patted Victor's hair again. "Your wrist is broken so we can't go."
Aure had gone beyond anger, into ice. "I can handle it. Rosalie. We're leaving."

Josie wasn't having it tonight. She again squeezed. "You're wrist is BROKEN. If you don't fix it properly - it will heal in an awkward position. That means you won't be capable of ever hitting me. It also means that if, and when Avedis comes back, you won't be able to protect yourself or Rosie. Now sit down and kindly shut your face so I can fix your wrist." The girl's words carried a tone akin to some one who'd already made up their mind. One way or another, Josie was going to fix that wrist.

Aure couldn't surpress a soft gasp of pain, though it was obvious she tried. She half-sank to her knees on the sidewalk, but apparently got over it and straightened again. "It will be fine. And I don't have to protect Rosalie. I have to get her home so her real protector can do it." She glared at Josie and stood up to her full height of more than six feet. "Let me go."

Josie was forced to look up at the girl. She hadn't realized the size difference until that moment. The hold around Aure's wrist loosened but she didn't let go. Not yet. "Why are you being so stubborn? Your wrist is clearly broken and you're obviously in pain. Why don't you just let me fix it?"

"None of your business," Aure said. "It's a personal thing." Her mouth settled into a thin, flat line. "Why do you want to fix it so badly?"
