Nyysharzi watched the Ranger kneel and pledge his service to Dalneik. He felt quite jealous that the Ranger pledged before he could. So before the other Elf and Human could pledge their service, Nyysharzi swept his cloak from around him an knelt beside the Ranger.
"Like I stated before, I was destined to find and help you. I, too, owe the Empire a debt of blood for persecuting my fellow magic users." Nyysharzi slammed his fist into the ground. From under his fist erupted a crack in the earth. "Magic is free to the people, and shall not be obstructed!!" Fury filled Nyysharzi's face.
"Excuse me." Nyysharzi brushed his hair from his now calm face and locked eyes with Dalneik,"I apologize, my powers of Fire, Earth, and Water at your disposal." Wit hooted in unison and flew over to Dalneik's shoulder and landed. Wit began to hoot very happily.

Aeolin grinned. "Well, that's where we were headed anyway, so why not?"
Helen muttered something about good reasons for not going. Aeolin turned around, smacked Helen upside the head, then turned back, brushing a lock of hair out of her face. "Sorry about that. So... Formalities. Yeah. Right behind you all the way. NOT a word," Aeolin snapped suddenly. Helen grunted, then replied, "Well, I was going to say 'I'm with you all,' but you so rudely cut me off."
"You know what you were really going to say," Aeolin responded, grinning nonetheless. Then, quite suddenly, she remembered something. "Ah. I suppose I should introduce myself. Aeolin Bardsted." She gestured behind her to Helen. "My sister, Helen."

Eva gave Tonash a nod of her own as he and his bodyguards left. Jerome merely gave a grunt of acknowledgement. He was not looking forward to this. As soon as he was sure the captain was gone, he turned to Eva, "Why do you feel the need to leave this nice place to go tramping around on some battlefield?" There was an edge to his voice, "There'll be nothing but death and violence and, and, what if I get hurt?"
"Just think of it as an opportunity to advance the investigation. Besides, you can get to show off all that fancy magic you never get a chance to use." Eva turned around to leave, "I think this'll be good for both me and you."
"Perhaps for you, but I do not-"
Eva interrupted him, "Look, you're coming whether you like it or not, is that clear? Now, I'm sure Captain Tonash can find things on his own, so I'm going back to the garrison. I don't care what you do, but you'd best be packed and ready to leave tomorrow morning." She walked out of the tavern.
Jerome stayed behind for a few moments, glaring at her back. But the air in the place was beginning to bother him, and it wasn't long before he too stepped outside. "Ugh, vile woman... Vile place... I'm beginning to get sick of this." He muttered darkly to himself.

He noted the strength in Nyysharzi's magic, thankful to have such a powerful mage on his side. But still, his warrior instincts screamed on the inside, telling him not to trust the magician. He had spent so many years training physically, so many years sharpening his skills to a fine point. He knew better than most that magic could undo even the greatest swordsman, it was a fact that disturbed him.
The Empire controls many strong magicks, thought Dastri, I must find a way to counter it.

Barghest rode atop his black horse, scowling angrily as the summer sun bore down upon his hooded head. After his "incident" with the initiate of the Inquisition, he was given the charge from somewhere above him in the Imperial chain of command to go to the frontlines at Borgerwood, to aid Captain Tonash in the taking of the town. How he hated that man. "He just sees no fun in killing and death," he said to himself as he let out a light sigh. Barghest always traveled alone, no bodyguards (not that any would even think of risking their lives for him), no squadron of soldiers, nothing. He glanced to the west, towards tiny Borgerwood. "Oh I do hope the Resistance shows up; otherwise, this might wind up being far too boring for me to even enjoy the bloodbath." Barghest's wicked grin shone out from his hood as he continued his slow trot to Borgerwood. He hoped for excitement when he arrived. Or at least excitement for himself. "Heeheehehe."

"Great, thank you all so much," Dalneik said with relief. "Anyways, we can take a few moments to rest here and regain some strength, but I'd say that if we head north, it should take us but a couple few hours to reach Lake Ildur, and then we'd simply have to follow the lake's coast and cross the river to reach the town itself."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was beginning to set in the west, but they had finally reached the southern border of Borgerwood. Imperial solders could be seen patrolling the streets.
"The gold mine is in the northern mountain border... but if we're going to get to it, we'll have to walk through the streets. Keep your heads down from the soldiers and stick with crowds of people... just stay as inconspicuous as possible and move north. We might have to move one at a time to avoid suspicion, unless somebody else has a better idea."
Dalneik rolled 2 10-sided dice:
6, 3
Total: 9 (2-20)
[[OOC: It seems the dice system is finally back... I have edited the rules of engagement to involve the dice. Class spells and abilities have also been edited to add numbers instead of approximates like "slight" and "moderate." I'll put the big changes here.
Fighting: With each post, a player is allowed to move within 20 feet and make a single attack. Hitting and damage is decided by a roll of two 10-sided dice; the first die is rolled to determine if you hit through your opponent's AC, and the second die determines how hard you hit them (Example: my dice rolls in this post... the first one, 6, would have hit an AC of 3 or lower, and my second roll, 3, would mean I dealt 3 damage to my target). After you make the roll, Your opponent must take your rolls and react accordingly (pay attention to the scales below to get the damage correct). Now that the dice system has decided to show up, every character has 30 hit points (I already edited it into the character list... and don't worry, I'll be the one keeping track of how much damage people take).
Spells and abilities: Using spells and abilities will take the place of making a melee attack; when using them, the to-hit die roll will instead determine the accuracy of the spell / ability you choose to use in the post.
Armor class (AC): This number keeps it's physics / magicks ratio... high AC is hard for melee to hit but easy for magic, and low AC is easy for melee to hit but hard for magic. Here's the scale:
AC 0: Melee always hits, Magic must roll 9 AC 1: Melee must roll 2, Magic must roll 7 AC 2: Melee must roll 4, Magic must roll 5 AC 3: Melee must roll 6, Magic must roll 3 AC 4: Melee must roll 8, Magic must roll 1 AC 5: Melee must roll 10, Magic always hits
Strength class (SC): Depending on how high or low your SC is, your rolls will either do more damage or have a better chance to hit. As with armor class, here's the scale on damage - accuracy ratio:
SC 0: No bonus damage, +3 on chance-to-hit roll SC 1: No bonus damage, +2 on chance-to-hit roll SC 2: +1 bonus damage, +1 on chance-to-hit roll SC 3: +2 bonus damage, no bonus on chance-to-hit roll SC 4: +3 bonus damage, no bonus on chance-to-hit roll SC 5: +4 bonus damage, no bonus on chance-to-hit roll
Always make sure you refer back to your character sheets in the approved list if you've forgotten something about him / her.]]
Dastri considered their options and shook his head, he just did not like like the idea of five of them being together in an area like Borgerwood. Highly conspicuous, the five of them would attract much attention while alone, what would happen if they traveled together? Dastri looked at himself, he would stick out most of all in his ranger garb. He was fitted for nature's wrath, not a stroll down the street.
"If I may...I believe it would be best for us to split up. And I do not enjoy the idea of walking around such heavily patrolled streets at dusk."
Suddenly, an idea came to Dastri, one that made him recalculate his plans, but made him seeth at the same time.
"Or suppose...Bind me in loose rope and say that I am a captured slave, sent to work in the mines. Keep my swords close to me and bind my cloak around them, I can grab them in an instant. They'll see my gaunt frame and would not question it, letting my overseer guide me to the mines."
((Excellent. One other thing - you'll need some way of deciding how fast characters regenerate, because they can't just go through the rest of the RP with damage.))
"It's a possibility," Helen replied. "My only question is how are we going to get elves," she gestured to Aeolin and Nyysharzi, "past all the Imperials. I don't know for sure if it's grounds enough for them to consider us suspicious, but why take a chance? We'll have to have them wear hoods, which might not do a lot for the whole 'stealthy and inconspicuous' theory." She thought for a moment. "Shame you're not all quiet enough to just sneak through. Make this a lot easier."
((By the way, I have a question. Aeolin has both 4 SC and the Valor ability. Does this mean it goes up to 6 SC and gets +5 bonus damage, or does it mean it just goes up to 5 SC?))
[[If your abilities cause you to exceed 5, then continue the pattern... so we'll go with the +5 bonus. smile This should apply for anything that may cause scores to go over 5, too... just continue the pattern to go beyond what's written. As for regeneration... I'm still working on adjusting everything else that needs to be now that numbers are involved, but it will definitely all be written down before any combat gets involved (this would've been so much easier if we had the dice system when I started this dang RP stressed ).]]
Dalneik considered the options proposed by his companions, but none of them seemed to work for him. After taking a minute to decide the best option, he was then hit by a moment of insight. Oh, genius, he thought to himself, why didn't I think of it earlier?
"The Borgerwood tavern is close to the town's southern border... if I remember, that tavern is somewhat of a rebel safehouse, unbeknownst to the empire. We'll head there, and we might even be able to find some rebels who can help us out. It's a short distance from here, but that's still big enough to get caught, so we all need to move in different directions."
"Ahhh......," began Nyysharzi, "a tavern you say. That is where they sell the thing called.....called." He tapped is fore finger to his chin trying to think of what the beverage was called.
"BEER!!!!!!" shouted Nysharzi loud enough to rustle Wit from his perch on Dalneik's shoulder. Regaining composer,"Excuse me. Sorry for that outburst is not like me. This thing called 'beer' is something that I have had great interest in. You see, I, a practitioner of magic, do not get to journey to other towns for I must study everyday to be tip, top form. But from other Elves," looking at the Ranger, "like Dastri, I have been told of this magical elixir. I hear it can make strong as an ox, limber as a willow, or as stout as a elm. When we get to this tavern, I would take great joy in 'buying a round for everyone.'"
Looking confuse if that last statement was right he replied to himself,"Yes that is the correct translation." Nyysharzi was lost in thought for the moment about the intricacies of this elixir called "beer."
Aeolin chuckled. "'Limber as a willow'? Sure, if you mean drunk out of your head. Let me say now: I'll pass."
Helen almost smiled. Almost. "It sounds like a plan, although divided we fall. I must agree, though, it seems like the best option." She didn't look very sure of this. In fact, she looked like she could argue the point for a few hours, but she didn't, thankfully.
Barghest arrived at the town of Borgerwood's perimeter, where the bulk of Tonash's forces were stationed. Cookie-cutter soldiers, the whole lot of them. He scoffed, as he regarded their disciplined stances, regular patrols and almost mechanic procedures. Despite his distaste for the physical prowess of opponents, Barghest could not help but admire the Captain's influence on his troops, seeing as they followed his orders even without him being physically present. He glared west, towards the town itself, knowing that the takeover would commence when the captain arrived and made the final preparations. His anticipation could hardly be contained.
He looked at the rising sun as he and the squadron of newly pulled garrison troops of Anacortes marched along the plains, with Lady Eva and her cohort at his side. Captain Tonash rode at point with his two personal guard and essentially kept to himself, though he did glance back at the dark scholar once or twice. He wanted this takeover to be as peaceful as possible, but Tonash was aware that with members of the Inquisition there, particularly if that beast Barghest were to be called in, then bloodshed would be unavoidable. They were within a few hours of the frontline and he gave a small sigh, glancing back in the direction of Durahan, wondering what Commander Valmont planned to achieve by completely annexing this small town. He had already seized the gold mines, which were essentially the only real thing of interest in that backwoods town. He noted Eva and her companion had rode up closer to point. "Lady Eva, what are your thoughts on this whole mess?" he asked, only partially waiting to listen, and partially lodged within his own thoughts.
"Beer?"
Dastri's ears perked at the mention of the drink, his mind working like greased lightning. Dastri had never lived in civilized areas and his father had raised him in the wild. His knowledge on such things were abysmal, but he had remembered some of the evils his father had warned him of.
"I'll pass as well. Water will do."
((This would be why I'm glad I have two charaters, heh)) Barghest moved about the camp, the fires and lights seeming to disappear as he passed by. The shadow mage was incredibly bored and was becoming impatient. None of the soldiers seemed to approach him, nor would he blame them. The last time any low ranking insect dared to speak with him on the eve of battle, he left them unconscious for two days. This is ridiculous. I want to see blood... His scowl quickly became an evil grin. With a whispered incantation, his body quickly became incorporeal, vanishing from sight. With a quiet chuckle to himself, he slipped away into the distance and entered the town.
