It is easy to grow, you just take a clove and plant it. I haven't had the chance to get seeds yet.

As Zsa Zsa mentioned braiding the herbs together than hanging them upside down is usually the best way, I don't know of another way though so if anyone else does please mention.
I might do a little about fungi but not much, so feel free to post anything about fungi that you know and want to share.
Since we have more students, the lessons'll start soon. Again if any of you have anything you want to learn or any ideas just mention them here or Pm me. biggrin
My garden as of right now, includes Rosemary, parsley, sage, and it also has roses in there. I just like roses so their growing with them. I might try garlic though.

Actually, if you grow roses in your herb garden, then growing garlic or anything of the onion family near them is ideal. Roses love garlic! I strongly dislike lavender (I think I may have said that before) but my father and I used to have a raised box garden with yellow roses and well maintained lavender growing around them, it was such a beautiful setting. And it looks just as beautiful in a vase. heart
I have heard you should not grow certain kinds of herbs near others. I think rue may have been one of those. Do you know anything about that? I should also ask my grannie, she's a herb freak.
Also, I suggest for the group as a whole, if you plan on keeping plants of the more toxic nature (like foxglove, for example) for ritualistic purposes, that you keeping two different gardens. One of edible herbs, that you could also use in your food, and one that is strictly 'medicinal' herbs.
BTW, Kir-Chan, I love your class so far! Good job!

I didn't know that Rose's love garlic, I'll have to try it soon. I've never seen roses & lavender growing together but I imagine its very pretty.
I'm not positive on which herbs you shouldn't grow with others but I'll look it up, if your gran knows though please mention the herbs. biggrin
I agree with keeping your plants separate, you wouldn't want to accidently eat foxglove and end up in the hospital.

AH! Sorry it took me so long to get back on the rue thing... I finally was able to get my grandmother in a mood to talk about garden stuff.
Rue should never be planted near: Cabbages, and most other herbs. Apparently it can made sage almost poisonous.
She also mentioned gladioli. Don't plant them with peas and beans (some people do, to cover the stakes with a pretty plant, so something, I wasn't clear on that.) and they shouldn't be planted anywhere within 50 feet of strawberries.
The other thing she told me is that you should never plant the same kind of herb in the same place twice in succession. You need to rotate where you plant them to prevent exhausting the soil of the particular properties one plant or the other needs.

I was going to wait till spring to begin planting a new herb. That plan gives me time to gather the supplies I need. I don't have any pots. Right now, I have my garlic growing out of old baby tins. I will move them back outside when the weather warms back up. When I was saying which herbs I have I actually forgot about some of my outside plants. I have a cactus that my mom tells me is a type of aloe. I still haven't confirmed that but I do know that having a cactus outside your home is supposed to be good luck. cool Thank you mom. lol. I was wondering if anyone knew what this plant was. It is a dark purple ivy like plant, that will regrow easily if you take a cutting. When it blooms it has tiny light purple flowers on it. I have absolutely no clue what it is, and no one else around me seems to either.

Rebo_Nicky No it's not periwinkle. The entire plant is purple. Which zone do you live in?
Maybe Setcreasea purpurea, syn. Tradescantia pallida... The Purple Heart (AKA Purple Queen, Purple Wandering Jew)
I'll try and find a image

Thank you SO MUCH! It was the first one you listed setcreasea purpurea. Yay!!! whee I was looking around and I think the actual name is Setcreasea pallida, but it is closely related to the first one. The Purple Heart...now I know. I just have to say again thank you so much!

My basils died. I don't think they liked the winter, or the being inside. sad
I've still got the parsleys though, they seem fairly happy. (Although I've got a slowly growing hatred for aphids...)
I want to grow sage - which reminds me, my girlfriend offered to trade some sage for parsley (because it's more fun that way), but neither of us know how to make cuttings, or how to make sure they don't die when cut.
Aaand... I don't know what else to grow. Possibly more basil, that smelt nice. I've always wanted to grow tobacco and hemp, but that's a bit awkward to deal with the legalities...

There are laws against growing hemp where you live? That's weird, hemp is harmless, it's like cotton, it's only good for making rope and material.

Yeah, I've looked it up. You need a licence, and to get that you have to prove you're using it for industrial purposes. I guess it's hard to tell the harmless stuff apart from the drug, and it's more likely for someone of my age to be growing it for the bud. :/
