Erik: [watching the little monkey toy] Masquerade...paper faces on parade, hide your face so the world will never find you. Christine, I LOVE you. You alone can make my song take flight, it's over now, the music of the night!

...-sobs- SO HEARTFELT.

When I first heard that part on the soundtrack, I got all teary-eyed.

Then, when that part (the Masquerade song) came on during the movie, I was balling like a baby. sweatdrop

The second time I saw PotO, I was balling by time he said "It's over now, the music of the night." and smashed the mirror.

Those last 20 minutes get me everytime!

I have new favorite quotes!

"Fate links thee to me forever and a day!" Erik - Gaston Leroux

"But his voice filled my spirit with a strange, sweet sound; In the night there was music in my mind...And from music my soul began to soar!" -Christine - ALW (Why have you brought me here?)

"Twisted every way, what answer can I give? Am I to risk my life to win the chance to live? Can I betray the man who once inspired my voice? Do I become his prey? Do I have any choice? He kills without a thought, he murders all that's good! I know I can't refuse, and yet, I wish I could...Oh god, I agree, what horrors wait for me? In this...The Phantom's Opera?" - Christine - ALW (We have all been blind)

"You're raving! Are you ill? For God's sake, tell me Raoul: what happened?"
And the count seized hold of the revolver.
"No, no, I'm not raving...Besides, we shall soon see..."
...
"Aha!" he said. "Blood! ... Blood! ...Here, theres more blood! ... That's a good thing! A ghost who bleeds is less dangerous!" he grinned.
"Raoul! Raoul! Raoul!" the count was shaking him as though he were trying to waken a sleep-walker.
"But, my dear brother, I'm not asleep!" Raoul protested impatiently. "You can see the blood for yourself. I thought I had been dreaming and firing at two stars. It was Erik's eyes...and here is his blood!"
...
"My dear fellow," said Count Phillippe, "you have fired at a cat."
"The misfortune is," said Raoul, with a grin, "that it's quite possible. With Erik, you never know. Is it Erik? Is it the cat? Is it the ghost? No, with Erik, you can't tell!"
(Then Raoul continues to rave...)
"Who is Erik?" asked the count, pressing his brother's hand.
"He is my rival. And, if he's not dead, it's a pity." - Raoul and Phillippe - Gaston Leroux

Even though I don't like Raoul for shooting Erik...I love that scene. It's so funny to me. His own brother is like "You're raving!" And the whole love triangle is REALLY apparent right there. And I love that. whee

Did he really shoot Erik? I don't recall the book ever explaining that incident. Erik is never mentioned to be injured, so I thought perhaps he really had shot a cat. question

"I never express myself like other people... I never do anything like other people.... But I am getting very tired of it!... I'm sick and tired of having a forest and a torture-chamber in my house and of living like a mountebank, in a house with a false bottom!... I'm tired of it!... I want a nice, quiet flat, with ordinary doors and windows and a wife inside it, like anybody else!... A wife whom I can love and take out on Sundays and keep amused on weekdays!"

"But ... but people must have been killed!"
"Oh, yes ... I daresay that's quite likely! It's really very difficult to be a murderer without killing people from time to time, you know."

"Are you so sure a small jar would contain me, madame?"

"Yearning to turn and reach out to him, I remained unable to conquer that inner fear. It was a chasm I dared not cross. And so instead I sat there, like the little mouse in Aesop's fable, not daring to look upon the lion bound by cruel ropes. Chained by fate and shackled by pride, he starved in silent pain; and because I lacked the courage of a rose, I could not set him free."

"There is no angel of music. And yet he continues to live in my mind...in my voice ...and in my soul."

"I love you, Erik, I love you in so many different ways...but my love is the love of a child afraid to grow up."

"Monsieur, I bid you welcome, did you think that I would harm her?" -The Phantom from ALW.

"You will curse the day you did not do..All that the Phantom asked of YOU!" *Then evil maniacal laughter follows* -The Phantom from ALW whee

"Flattering child you shall know me -- See why in shadow I hide..Look at your face in the mirror, I am there INSIDE!" -The Phantom from ALW.
You beat me to those quotes, waaah. xd

But I also like: "INSOLENT BOY! This slave of fashion, basking in your glory! IGNORANT FOOL! This brave young suitor, sharing in my triumph!" 3nodding

"Past the point of no return the final threshold - the bridge is crossed, so stand and watch it burn . . . We've passed the point of no return . . "
-ALW's Musical

" 'Backwards? You have seen our managers walk backwards? Why, I thought only crabs walked backwards!'
'Don't laugh, Gabriel, don't laugh!'
' I'm not laughing,' prostested Gabriel, looking as solemn as a judge.
'Perhaps you can tell me this, Gabriel, as you're an intimate friend of the management : when I went up to M Richard, outside the foyer, during the Garden interval, with my hand out before me, why did M Moncharmin whisper to me, "Go away! Go away! Whatever you do , don't touch M le directeur"? ... Am I supposed to have an infectious disease?'
'It's incredible!'
' And a little later, when M de la Borderie went up to M Richard, didn't you see M Moncharmin fling himself between them and hear him exclaim " M l'ambassadeur, I entreat you not to touch M le directeur"?'
' It's terrible!... And what was Richard doing meanwhile?'
'What was he doing? Why, you saw him! He turned about, bowed in front of him, though there was nobody infront of him, and he withdrew backwards.'
' Backwards?'
'And Moncharmin, behind Richard, also turned about, that is, he described a semi-circle behind Richard and also walked backwards!.. And they went like that to the staircasr leading to the manager's office : backwards, backwards,backwards!... Well, if they are not mad , will you explain what it means?'
'Perhaps they were practising a firgure in the ballet.' suggested Gabriel, without much conviction in his voice.

- Gaston Leroux's Novel (Well, that wasn't really a quote...More like a half a page. o.o;; )

And if you thought that was long I don't think you want me quoting the ENTIRE musical. whee

On the Insolent Boy part, I listened to the Michael Crawford CD and it sounded like 'passion', then I saw the movie and Gerard Butler sounded like fashion. I should prolly look up the lyrics. >.> I'm still unsure of what it is.

'and he will tell me that he loves me! and he will cry!' -Christine, from the Gaston Leroux book.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find that sad and funny at the same time? Pity the Phantom. ;_; I wish I could draw our sweet (I use that term loosely.) Erik. Maybe I'll do 'The Persian' fan art instead.
