Be able to say to your director that 'The last marching band festival broke the marimba!'...
The expression on his face was hilarious. XDDD

Two of our newer players accidentally half-dropped the good one (belongs to the school and not the marching band) and the director freaked....Our instructors were making fun of him when we left.

Well...lets see what I've done
1.Broke a whole Marimba
2.Dropped Bells and broke them
3.Got a drum stick sawed in half(almost...dont ask)
4.Yelled Gong solo in the middle of a song and wrote my gong solo
5.Marched out of step during a compettition
6.Got my cymbals filled with water at the holiday parade and cracked them
7.Broke my finger (twice!)
8.Broke a suspended cymbal mallet
9.Got a triangle lesson...
10.I got mixed up with forte forte and mezzo paino when I was playing the gong, and during a sad slow part, the director fell off his podium (drum major wasn't there so we had our regular teacher)

Something EVERY percussionist must do at least once (or else they aren't a real percussionist) is break a mallet/stick AT LEAST once.

I broke one cymbal mallet and two bell mallets and I lost another one because I tossed it into the air and it landed in my hilbily neighbor's yard...it was never seen again
I also almost got my mom to saw my drumstick in half, does that count?

Something they should do is learn how to play traditional if they don't already and not do if they can't do it correctly. You will get carpel tunnel if you do it wrong.

Breaking a stick/mallet is something a percussionist should do indeed. I broke my bass mallet this year X3 And it was on the last day for seniors too when all five seniors on drum line were just going nuts and ad libbing on their instruments. I actually hit a snare drum for a rim-shot with the wooden end of my mallet and it snapped off and flew into the freshman, great times~

And to add to that, I managed to crack three cymbals and chip another during the three years I played cymbals, rofl

THROW DRUMSTICKS HORIZONTALLY ON THE GROUND AND TRY TO CATCH THEM THAT WAY! blaugh lol and twist the handle on cymbals to make a cool spinny trick, then get dents on your hands! >D
