She couldn't help but grin as she caught sight of the blush rising to Kamiru's cheeks in the moonlight.

I wonder if he actually might fancy me...He's cute enough, a bit tall, but all things can be worked with...until he learns what I am...might as well at least enjoy the moment Jadelyn found that her eyes were scanning over him as she thought and she blinked, taking a small step forward, her hands running along her sides, smoothing the fabric of her corset.

"I would love to have your company on this walk." She kept her pace slow, eyes glancing towards the sky to check to see how long she had before daylight came.

Kamiru smiled, and they began to walk down the street. "This is a very interesting town. Why did you move here, Jadelyn? Was it business, or did you just like this town? I don't mean to pry or anything, I'm just a curious person, is all." Kamiru sighed.

The last time he had gone for a walk with a woman, she had wanted to go to leave him. He thought of this, but then smiled. There's absolutely nothing to worry about, he thought to himself. We're not going out, and besides, we just met. Unless something bad happens, I don't see why she would leave. Kamiru, you worry about these things too much.

Kamiru glanced at the moon, to see how much longer they could stay like this, under the moonlight.

Her eyes narrowed for a moment, noting the position of the moon. It is probably somewhere near 3am..I have a few hours to spare. Jadelyn turned her attention to Kamiru now, safe in the knowledge that daylight wouldn't reach her soon.

She gave a throaty laugh, eyes seeming to sparkle. "There is nothing wrong with curiosity. I'm an artist. That building you first saw me leaning against.." She pointed over her shoulder absently. "It's mine. I'm going to open a tattoo studio. If I ever stay behind to actually work on the building instead of going out for walks when I feel restless." Her voice seemed to become more animated as she spoke of her art and her studio, hands gesturing.

Kamiru looked at Jadelyn, impressed. "That's awesome. I'm not very artistic, but looking at art is always fun to do. If you want, I could help you with cleaning up the building while I'm in town. Though I don't know how long that will be, I think I'm leaving tomorrow, let me check my ticket." Kamiru reached into his pocket, and then realized exactly what he was afraid of: there was no return ticket. "On second thought, it looks like I'm going to be in town for a very long time."

Kamiru turned away from Jadelyn and thought to himself, I don't believe this. They hated me that much? The least they could have done is talked it over with me, it's not like I'm not open for suggestions...

Turning back to Jadelyn, Kamiru took a deep breath, and then said "I know this is going to sound weird, but do you think there's a house to rent around here somewhere? I need to find a home, and soon..."

Jadelyn tilted her head as she watched Kamiru search his pockets, almost stumbling along the crack in the sidewalk but catching her balance quickly. Her head slightly shaking. So easily distracted by a simple boy? Her thoughts taunted her.

She opened her mouth to invite him to stay with her when she clamped her mouth shut, thoughts racing. Oh yes, that's a fine idea Jade...have him live with you and find out what you are and flee...you're a brilliant one. Jadelyn sighed, pushing a hand through her hair and chewing at her lip. Fighting with herself on whether or not to help the boy or keep distance between them.

"I'm..I'm afraid I'm not sure. I only searched for my building. There's enough space for two.." She mentally smacked herself, but forced her voice to continue. "I mean, if you really need a space. But yanno..ya don't have to stay...you have a hotel room, I...oh...I'm not making sense."

You're babbling, dearie..is what you are doing. The boy has you babbling. Never would have guessed that you would go this crazy without your art She bit her lip again as she thought, eyes watching the sky.

"Well, I wouldn't want to be trouble for you, but if you're offering, then I thank you. And while I'm there, I can help you get the building ready!" Kamiru said. "Jadelyn, you've done so much for me today, thank you. I'll only stay for a day or two, and I'll look for a house so that I don't have to burden you any more than I already am. Speaking of which, I guess I could start now..." Kamiru said, looking at each building as they passsed them. "I want you to take this...for being so kind to me." Kamiru pulled out his pendant, and handed it to Jadelyn. "I've heard that it has special powers, but I'm not really one to believe in those sorts of things. I want you to take it as a token of my appreciation."

Oh dear, this will be interesting Jadelyn sighed again but then smiled up at Kamiru. She placed her hand on his, carefully pushing the pendant back towards him, biting her lip as she tried to find the right words.

How can I tell him I have power enough on my own? She shook her head, deciding to go from a different angle. "Don't be silly, Kamiru. You're offering to help with the building and that in itself means the world to me. You never know, you might end up needing that and I'll feel bad for have taken it from you."
PostPosted: Tue Aug 09, 2005 12:43 pm

"Well, I guess so, but you've done way more for me today than I could ever do for you. Fixing a building isn't all that big of a deal for me, I'm a geologist, I know what buildings are made of. Are you absolutely sure?" Kamiru asked, feeling bad that he wasn't able to do more. He looked up at the sky and was shocked to see the position of the moon. "It's almost morning. I should get back to the hotel and get my things. I think I'll look around the town for a while today. I'll be there this evening." Kamiru smiled at Jadelyn, turned around, and began to walk back to the hotel.

Jadelyn smiled at him. "Yes. I'm sure. Your company will be wonderful and you can always offer it again to me later if you feel the need." She winked at him and then jerked her head towards the sky as he mentioned that it was almost morning. Oh hell... She nodded and waved at him. "Of course, take care of whatever you need to. I will see you tonight." She gave him one last smile before moving towards her studio, trying to not walk too fast while he was in sight. She rushed to get home before morning hit, smiling in relief as the door to her studio came in sight.

Kamiru walked into the hotel, went to his room, and looked at the time. 5:45?! I don't even stay up that late grading papers...well, she was very nice, and I'm glad that all of that has been resolved. I thought I was going to be stuck here without a home. I still don't believe that those guys would do something like that to me. Kamiru sat on his bed, thinking to himself that he should get his stuff packed now so he wouldn't have to do it later, but before he had the chance to do so, he had fallen asleep.

Rafael barely listened to the coven leader's rambling, ignoring the girl, Luella, entirely. He was only hard to find when he wanted to be.

"I am well aware of these attacks you speak of," he said, sounding immeasurably bored. "There is a demon here, and he is not very hard to find. Just listen for the snake's scales or follow the smell that clogs the air worse than pollution."

He finished his drink in one swallow as the mortal boy who's pendant was the object of Lucius' attention slid off his bar stool and left, uncomfortable with all the looks he was receiving.

With a quiet laugh that was barely audible over the music he looked back at the trio of vampires with some amusement.

"I understand why you are having such a terrible time trying to track the thing. I've been here for at least two years now and you only now have realized my existance. How many times have I passed one of you on the streets? And how many times have you passed by, never noticing me?" Here he paused, wondering for a moment just what they all thought of him, but then let it go and continued. "The demon has much better shielding than I; you have very little hope of finding him, unless, of course, he finds you."

'But we've already seen what happens when he finds you, haven't we?' he thought, leaning back against the counter, being careful of his left arm that was still a little sore from the fight, and watching the mortals as they drank and danced and spoke with each other, more interested in finding a nice meal than in the three from the coven. He knew his attittude would most likely annoy them, but it did not seem important to him. He hid his mind entirely from them, then, not allowing them to sense his presence as they had before, wondering just what their reactions might be.

Waking up four hours later, Kamiru sat up and realized that his belongings still weren't packed. He hurriedly packed up his things, double-checked to make sure he didn't miss anything, and left the hotel. "Hmm...now what should I do until tonight?" Kamiru thought out loud. "Well, I guess I should check to see if there really is a college here, and if I'm even scheduled to speak..." Kamiru carried his suitcase with his left hand, slipped out his pendant with his right, and decided to look to be on the safe side.

Jadelyn rose at dusk, frowning as she realized she had slept in her clothes. Running a hand through her hair, she walked over to the suitcases in the corner of the bare room, switching her black corset for a red one and her camo pants for her favorite black skirt. Strapping her boots on, she glanced at her arm, the ink from the marker completely gone leaving no trace of its previous existance.

Wish it would hold...she sighed as she stood, deciding to be careful to avoid any fading sunlight and straighten up around the building before heading out to feed, her hunger already making its presence known at the back of her mind. Perhaps tonight she'd actually go shopping and get some furniture for her bedroom above the studio. Wouldn't be a bad idea considering that company is coming over she thought with a smile.

Lucius berated his minions. "You know how valuable he is! Why did you have to go and act all arrogant!" The coven leader and his two followers and taken to the alley behind the bar where they had encountered Rafael. "You know that only a few of us know of the dark art of shape-shifting, it would provide to be a useful tool against the creature that is bent on killing us all. Your arrogance shall be the end of us!"

Lucius bared his teeth. It was bad enough that they had lost one potential warrior, now he had to deal with insubordination too. And he was puzzled with the pendant he had seenon the mortal at the bar. He felt it would provide....answers. He tucked the information safely in his mind, sure that it would be of use to him later.

Rafael listened to the vampire's ranting, laughing silently at his companions, or rather 'minions' as Lucius thought of them. Anger sparked in his mind at the idea of being used as a 'tool' against the demon. He fought for no one but himself and those select few whom he cared for. Of course, if the demon intended to threaten the entire city or if it killed excessively, he knew he would have to do something about it quickly.

He turned away, leaving the dark alley behind as he headed home to his library. Maybe he could find some information on this intruder. Its weaknesses and strenghts and faults.

He felt dawn approaching on the edges of his mind but refused to worry about it. The sun had ceased to bother him so long ago that he couldn't recall a time when he had ever been badly hurt by it. He spent the day leafing through the books in his personal library and, after finding nothing of any use, left for the public library sometime around three in the afternoon.

He found very little information on the demon he had encountered, and most of it was speculation and theory. The only solid fact seemed to be the universal truth of nearly every known creature; the only way to kill it was decapitation followed by complete incineration and carefully scattering the ashes so that there was no possibly chance it could come back.

With a sigh, he closed the book and put it back on the shelf, giving a tired smile to the librarian before heading back home to catch a couple hours of rest before nightfall. He knew the coven would be looking for him, and he was curious about the boy he had seen in the club the other night.

He had never carried a key for his house, he didn't even think there was one, but unlocking the door with his mind had always been so easy to do. His apartment was tiny, though not for the inability to afford better. Indeed, he could afford the entire building if he chose, but he didn't want it.

The four room box suited him just fine. Sure, the kitchen was tiny even though it was completely open to the living room, but he usually ate out anyway. The living room was about the size of his bedroom and bathroom combined, but his bedroom just managed to hold a twin sized bed and a small dresser, while his windowless bathroom was a toilet that slid under the sink and was most likely rusted with disuse and a curtained shower he never needed but used often anyway.

His curtains were black in the living room, contrasting nicely with the cream coloured carpet and matching nicely with the black leather loveseat and chair and the small glass and iron coffee table that held a few of his books.

Where his living room and kitchen were done entirely in an artistic black and white, his bedroom had a little more colour to it. The pillows on his bed were blood red, the carpet being midnight blue, the dresser - sandalwood. The lampshade was a deep purple that could pass for black by candlelight and the lamp itself was gleaming chrome silver; the curtains seemed to be tye-dyed, but the colours were too dark to be certain.

With a tired yawn, he flopped down on his bed, quickly falling into a dreamless sleep, not bothering to set his alarm because he rarely needed it.
