I can understand all the Spanish-haters if they're talking about the dialects of the Americas (Mexican, Puerto Rican, Argentinian, etc.), but the Castilian dialect is so completely not ugly, I tell you... it's great. They don't sound like they're choking on their own tongues.

Anyway, the most horrible is French. I can say that Japanese annoys me 'til my head explodes, but it's not as ugly, anyway, as French. I have never heard anyone able to speak that language without the air of snobbish arrogance that inevitably comes along with it. Even my good friend Reix can't speak it without managing to sound like an uppity, high-strung little...

It may sound like I'm talking about the people here, but I'm really not. The tone just sounds arrogant beyond belief, no matter how nice the person speaking it (like my friend) is. German may be harshly guttural, but at least it sounds no-nonsense and proper.

Oh really? rolleyes I'm french but i dont snob anybody, maybe u talked with a rich person xD anyway I cant hear french as you =)

Aw.... really? XD French is my first language, and I don't think that I sound snobbish, or anyone in my French side of the family, for that matter. It might be because we're from Quebec, Canada, so the French is maybe a little more countrified and down-to-earth than the French from France. XD

And I don't particularly hate any language. Spanish just gets on my nerves because of the people in my Spanish class who come from South America and thinks it's all cool to speak Spanish with a slutty voice. What a disgrace to a beautiful language. ><; My Spanish side of the family is from Pontevedra, Spain, and speak Castellano. Though I admit that sometimes it's a little harsh and blunt ... it's not ugly, at least to me. Though it's not my favourite language, either. XD

And Portuguese and Gallego. gonk All of the "sh" noises. It gets a little annoying after a while.

But I think German is sexy. whee I'm trying to learn it. I think it's a beautiful language in its own way. It's just learning/imitating the sounds that drive me insane. Pronunciation is nearly impossible for me and the language is just so complex that it makes my brain explode. gonk I guess it doesn't help that the three languages that I know fluently are all on the "softer" side... and then up pops German, one of the harshest ever. gonk

I totally agree about the German.

I can understand where Hawk gets that idea. Some French I've heard (not from Canada, from France) sounded very snobbish to me. Maybe it's just the people I saw speaking it, who knows. But I personally think I just don't like the "Romance" languages, because none of them appeal to me. Sound wise, that is.

Although I love written French, I think it's beautiful. biggrin

You guys ever heard Luxemburgish? It's a German dialect and very very very ugly to my ears. It's very similar to German and although I have lived in Luxemburg for the most part of my life, I have never really learnt it. I guess I always thought it was too painful to hear and the people there can all speak French, English or German, or all of them,
so I never really had to learn Luxemburgish to communicate.
Nevertheless I love Luxemburg and everyone living there ^^ heart

YOU IDIOT![Just kidding] It's an independent language!
I think Armenian is pretty ugly sounding and the Alphabet looks horrible! [No Offense Armenians]

I like the Armenian alphabet. Its purdy. And it reminds me of yellow for some reason.

I don't really like the sound of Dutch. It's not just because it's guttural - I think Arabic sounds nice; there's just something else I can't put my finger on. It's just a combination of a few things I dislike.

*shruggeth* I'm sure most of you are very nice people, but that's what I hear in the language itself. My friend I mentioned is the most selfless guy I know, but he still manages a purely uppity tone when he speaks it. confused

However, the direct and straight-forward sound of German fits my personality perfectly, in case anyone hasn't noticed... mrgreen Ich habe keine Angst, irgendetwas zu sagen.

I would rather hear Quebecois than parisian french just being that it sounds a lot better [and funnier] to me. Parisian french isn't the most pleasant-sounding but, it's ear-tickling to my ears. The Quebec dialect doesn't sound all that nasal-y and what not.

I would prefer some dialects to others like Hawk said. I don't like German because I always thought it was harsh-sounding but, if I hear what other German dialects sound like and enjoy listening to that dialect than I'll learn that particular dialect.

I LOVE how the scandinavian languages sound. They're very pleasant to my ears. Even Danish may sound like a throat-disease [to some] the grammar and everthing [except the pronunciation] is more logical than my own "pidgin-like" native language [English].

xd Lots of people say that I sound funny when I speak Quebecois. I even made some people laugh. XD I don't know why. But my friends that went to France and then met some of my family have said that the French from my family [Canadians] sounds more welcoming and friendly. XD And then, of course, I get the completely other side of the spectrum as well, where I'm called a "hillbilly" for speaking Quebecois. neutral

eek I know it is an independant language, only since 1984 though. I just tried to explain where it comes from...

I don't know if I really dislike the sound of any particular language. Usually when I hear a language, I'm focused on trying to make sense of it, rather than enjoy the sound of it. blaugh

I did not like the French that one of my professors spoke; it wasn't Parisian (which I'm also not fond of), but I don't remember what part of France he was from. His "r"s were absolutely brutal. gonk GREAT prof, though.

English isn't a very pretty language, in my opinion. And while I wouldn't go as far as to say that German is an ugly language (since I like the sound of it), I certainly wouldn't call it a "pretty" language. Appealing, but not "pretty". blaugh

All the Dutch hating in here makes me sad sad

If anything, I hate the way English sounds. Not really hate, I'm just neutral with it. I like every other language since I haven't been exposed to them all my life. =P
