The Black Chocobo

Playdate with Sera ( Eight )

{Faiga was out of his mind. At least Lysium thought so as she peered through the doorslit as he rummaged around in the small hut to clean everything up. Shiver was sitting on her shoulder and also tried to see as much as possible whereas they were supposed to entertain their guests. They didn't, obviously.

Instead Lysium simply stated to Sera. "He's cleaning, everything was dirty. Just for you." Turning around a slight grin crossed her face as she picked up Shiver and made him purr by petting him slightly. "I don't like the chocobo." She whispered to Sera and sighed. Shiver mimiked her and nodded at Seduire.

Finally Faiga opened the door to their guests and smiled faintly. "Come and visit our nice little...you know what, Crescentia and girls. Lysium, I bet you already know it." The girl didn't even smirk at the joke. Her mind was still busy with the Halloween party and she was still a witch. It almost looked like she wanted to turn her Daddy into a frog. People at her home were a bad thing, but a crazy dad was even worse.

Crescentia distracted herself by looking around at everything, her hands clasped behind her as she, Sera and Seduire waited to be let in. At least Lysium was still out here to keep her own little girl company!

"Oh?" He kept it messy? Like her and Guin's room? Mommy and Nana always got angry whenever they walked into their room and saw the mess...maybe Lysium's daddy was scared Mommy would get mad that it was messy? She did look a little confused about the chocobo comment, mainly because she'd missed their parents' exchange about the new baby. "Why? Is it bad?" Weird! Why wouldn't Lysium like a cute birdy? Seduire was one too! Seduire raised a birdy-brow with curiosity, looking up at Shiver.

Crescentia and Sera's attentions were immediately turned to the door when it finally opened, both smiling brightly. Now they could play inside! It was getting dark, and when it got dark it got cold! It was too cold to be outside dressed as a ballerina princess. Somehow Crescentia didn't seem to even notice the weather. "Why thank you, Faiga!" Crescentia smiled, looking down at the girls and waiting for them to go in first. It was Lysium's home~ And the children didn't look excited to be outside anymore anyway. Lysium's dad didn't seem crazy to Sera! Just a little excited!

Nobody knew why that spirit popped into Lysium's mind, but she wanted to make sure that Sera didn't like the chocobo as well. "Yes, yes! Veeeery bad!" Shiver eyed the girl suspiciously and started to whisper to her mentally that it couldn't be said like that, but the Forgotten was quite convinced to persuade her friend. "You know, we saw his birth. He hurt his mother, it was all bloody and gory and ewwwww."

Shiver tried to make signs to Seduire that it wasn't true, but was right away shoved into Lysium's armpit so he couldn't face the bird. "You don't want to see him!" The girl concluded.

As her Daddy opened the door Lysium hushed inside and after a few seconds decided that it was alright for the others to follow. She freed Shiver after making him promise to say nothing about it and waved at Sera. Faiga lead Crescentia and her daughter into the small hut. It consisted of more or less one room and a kitchen. Lysium's bed was close to the fireside, which was crackling. The kitchen was small and still not very clean, but acceptable. A couch, a small table, a cupboard and lots of books and balls on the ground completed the interior. Another wooden door let into the stables. "Would you like to drink something before we go into the stables?" Faiga asked.

Sera seemed like the type to be easily swayed, but she wanted to see for herself why the chocobo was bad before judging the poor thing. It was just a baby! Babies didn't know what they were doing! The girl's eyes widened at the description of the birth, letting out a loud "Ewwww!" Blood? Gore? Eww! How gross! Why would a baby do that?! Crescentia blinked and paused in walking up to the hut. What was wrong?

"Something wrong, sweetheart?" Sera blushed a little and shook her head, ushering Seduire into the hut before her. Seduire was watching quite curiously, tilting his head a little when poor Shiver was being shoved into Lysium's armpit. Poor cat.

"N-no!" She frowned and turned back to Lysium, following the girl with a little nod. "Okay." They could just play instead. It was her mommy's idea to go see the chocobo! ...Should she warn Mommy? Seraphine glanced up at her mother for a moment and decided against it. Mommy would be fine! She was bigger than a baby chocobo! Ooh! Balls!

Crescentia smiled softly at Faiga and nodded. "Sure! Anything's fine." You'd think a comment like that would get a woman into trouble. Good thing she trusted Faiga. Unlike Sera Crescentia actually wanted to see the chocobo now. A big baby bird sounded adorable!

"Awesome, how about some hot apple juice then? Lysium and Shiver prefer it." Faiga said and started to rummage around in the kitchen. "It will keep you warm in the stables." He continued while Shiver curiously followed into the kitchen to look at the drink.

He loved it, Lysium usually just drank it because he was able to have it then too. Seduire, come here, we get good stuff in the kitchen!

The Forgotten wrinkled her nose as Sera's mum was so nosy and threatened to destroy her horror story. Sitting down beside a ball she mentioned Sera to come and play with her. "We won't go with you, daddy." She simply stated while rolling one of the balls towards her friend.

Faiga put down two small cups in front of the daemons which were steaming from their liquids. He offered the same to Crescentia and the children before frowning at his daughter. "Why not? We want to celebrate its new name and I bet Sera would like to go and see."

"Sure! If Lysium and Shiver recommend it." Crescentia replied, smiling down at the girls before following Faiga to stay by his side. "I'm sure I'll be fine." She waved a hand dismissively. This was, of course, her response to being kept warm while in the stables. "Cold doesn't bother me, plus if I want to keep warm I could just hug you!" The gypsy teased, keeping her voice low for just Faiga to hear; really she just liked to see him blush. It was cute!

Seduire's head perked up. Good stuff? Good! Seduire was a bird of high stature! ...No pun intended because of his height, of course. He obviously thought very highly of himself...at least he wasn't showing signs of being a snob yet. He's young~ Okay! The crane fluffed his feathers up a bit and hurried over to the cat daemon, looking up at the adults.

Sera plopped down on her bottom just in time to roll the ball back to Lysium, smiling brightly. She'd obviously gotten over the gross horror story. When the girl spoke Sera looked up to see both of their parents looked a bit confused.

And then she was asked the dreaded question. Make her mommy happy...or keep playing with her friend. Sera's green eyes widened as she looked from Faiga and Crescentia to Lysium and back to the adults. Oh dear...uh...what to do...um...oh! Perfect! "S'cold." Sera said with a frown, rubbing her arms. She meant outside of course. "Wanna play wit' Lys'um!" She finished, looking relieved that Crescentia seemed to understand instead of looking disappointed.

"Hug me?" Faiga indeed blushed slightly as the thought, but after all she was alone in his house and that fact made him extremely nervous anyway. It couldn't get much worse, could it? "The stables are just next door, so the children can play here alone, they can't reach anything dangerous, I made it sure."

Shiver licked the hot liquid and purred happily. Birds like that, Seduire? The daemon asked and looked up to grin at the fluffy friend.

Lysium rolled the ball back and grinned triumphantly at her father as Sera responded so nicely. She was a very good friend the girl considered. She even survived horror stories and parental care. Turning towards the mug with the apple juice Lysium sipped the liquid a bit. "What do you want to play?" She asked the other girl.

"Do we want to head for the little one then?" Faiga asked and moved one hand through his hair.

Crescentia giggled and kissed his cheek when she was sure the children were distracted, leaning against the kitchen counter and sipping at her drink. Mm! It was good! At Faiga's words she looked towards the door, then at everything she'd been told the children couldn't reach. Well that was good! She had no doubt Sera would be safe as long as she was with Seduire; he always looked out for her.

Seduire bent down and poked his beak into the cup, somehow drinking at the hot drink inside. Shiver would be safe in assuming that this bird liked the juice from how long his beak stayed down.

"Ummm~" Sera waited until Lysium was done drinking to pass the ball back, looking around the hut to see if she could think of anything else to do besides play with the ball. Ooh, were those crayons? After she rolled the ball away she took tentative sips at her mug, mainly just being careful because it was hot. "Crayons?" Aw, man. She couldn't wait until she was big enough to say more words aloud like Lysium and Mommy!

She'd been having fun just watching her daughter interact with the other girl, but Crescentia was quickly torn from her fond reverie by Faiga's voice. Oh yes! The little chocobo. The gypsy nodded and took another nice sip from the drink, smiling brightly at how it warmed her. "Of course!" And, although she probably didn't need to, she turned to Sera and gave her a quick 'Be good while we're outside, darling!' then turned back to Faiga, nursing at her drink. "Lead the way, love."

Faiga smiled at her very pleased still feeling her kiss on his cheek and nodded. "Alright, let's go then." He didn't worry about the children at all, because Lysium was used to walk around alone. It wasn't that he didn't want to share time with her, but after all farm life was busy and she loved to wander around alone. Sometimes he wondered if there was a teenager in her mind already.

Opening the door into the stables he mentioned to Crescentia to come in. It was warm and cosy inside, but it also smelled like dung and birds. Faiga was used to it and he hoped that the woman would be alright with it too. "He's in one of the boxes in the back. You can look at all the others on the way if you want."

Crayons are boring. Shiver commented, but that was only because Lysium loved them so much and he wasn't able to do anything with them.

The Forgotten smiled slightly at Sera and quickly moved up to get some papers and the crayons. Carrying them back to Sera she looked at them protectively. They were her favourite ones. "Please..careful." She said and offered them to the new friend. She had believed the horror story so she had to be alright enough.

Crescentia didn't seem to notice the smell in the stables; it smelled the way any person should expect them to smell, only this was for birds instead of cows or pigs or horses. The gypsy still had her mug and was nursing at it contently, resting her head on Faiga's shoulder the short walk into the stables. He was warm! "Boxes?" She assumed that the things they slept and lived in were the 'boxes' he meant. Nonetheless she smiled, nodded and turned to the closest chocobo. "...Heeeey, I recognize you." Crescentia smiled brightly at the chocobo. It was the one Faiga had had with him when she and Guin first met them! She reached out tentatively to try petting the top of his head before she hurried after Faiga.

Sera likes to play with them too. Except she's also got paint...it's so messy. Seduire sighed, making sure both Sera and Shiver could hear him as he sighed and shook his head. The little girl stuck her tongue out at the daemon, taking the ball and carefully rolling it away from all of them. Didn't want it getting in the way~!

Sera watched her new friend get up to get paper and crayons, rolling onto her stomach so she could color more comfortably if they weren't going to be using a table. Propping her head up in the palms of her hands, Sera nodded with a big smile. Of course she'd be careful with them! They weren't hers! And even then, her own crayons still looked brand new even though you knew she used them a lot. "Uh huh~!" She answered cheerfully, putting the box on the floor between them and opening it so they could both use it together. Guin didn't like drawing fun pictures with her, she'd rather make mean pictures with people fighting...sure there was magic most of the time but still! Sera did like drawing her sister's tattoos though.

Faiga nodded at her question and slowly moved towards the box in which the black chocobo resided in. Looking back over his shoulder he smiled as she recognised the bird. She seemed to like them a lot, that was indeed a good thing.

"Come look at this little one. He's very special. Usually chocobos are born in eggs, but he was born alive. That only happens very, very rarely. At first I wanted to give him to Lysium, but she doesn't seem to enjoy him."

The man pointed at a small, scruffy bird with bright eyes who looked at them curiously. His beak was yellow, but everything else was of a shining black. He was adorable and was cosily seated in the straw.

Lets go and do something else then. Shiver looked around and noticed the rolling ball. With a grin he jumped onto it.

Lysium sat down beside Sera and looked for a nice colour. The golden crayon had already been used quite a lot so perhaps she should use something else. "What do you like to draw?" The toddler asked and picked a green crayon. "I do a tree."

Of course Crescentia loved the chocobos! They were so interesting and beautiful! Besides, doesn't she look the type to love every animal anyway? Because she is. When they reached the scruffy little cutie Crescentia squealed with excited delight, loud enough to show her adoration but soft enough not to startle any of the chocobos--especially the one in front of them. "I thought all birds laid eggs no matter what." She mused, putting her mug down in a safe spot and leaning over the edge of the box to try petting the baby. "This is the most adorable little one I've ever seen." That isn't human at least!

"She doesn't? Aw, what a shame." It was obvious just from listening to the tone that she was concentrating on trying to think up a name now. Good luck getting her out of the stables later! She's hooked!

Seduire gave a bird-like laugh at the sight. Even he, the high-class aristocrat (Pfft, he thinks he's all that) could allow himself fun playtime with the cat. He bent down and turned the ball to the side with his beak with Shiver still on it, spinning the cat around in circles. You can just hear the cheesy circus music!

Sera had picked out the remaining different shades of green crayons, a fushia crayon. She was drawing something that looked almost like a blob with arms and a face, but you could tell she was definitely attempting to draw a person of some sort. "Ghosties." That probably sounded weird, so Sera tried again. "Ghosties...in my toys." She was drawing the ghostly people that kept coming out of any instrument or dance equipment she tried to touch or use. And nobody believed her when she said they existed! They always left!

Faiga watched Crescentia's expression and smiled slightly. She really liked the animals, which was indeed a good thing. Otherwise he wouldn't have allowed her to name the little one, because who knew what she had thought of then? But right now, everything seemed to be alright.

"Have you thought of a name already? Remember, he's a boy." The little black chocobo snarled as if he understood his words and Faiga moved to the sides of the stables and rummaged around in a small cupboard. He produced a glass for each of them which contained some red liquid.

"If yes, we need to drink this chocobo blood first. It's a ritual, you know." You could see the fun in his eyes as he offered the liquid to the woman.

wowowowowowowowooooooo Shiver tried hard to stay on the ball, but after all he was a slightly clumsy cat and the ball was getting faster and faster and...bumped against the wall! Shiver fell to the side and sniffed. Stupid...

Lysium rubbed her forehead as Shiver bumped against the wall and glared at him. As she had made sure that he was quite alright her attention turned back to Sera. Lysium herself had started to draw a dress, but the ghost story seemed far more interesting. "Ghosties in your toys? What do they?"

It took some deep thought, but Faiga would be able to tell when the gypsy had come to a decision; she seemed to brighten up a little more. What a perfect idea! He looked just like what she was thinking of, only cuter and larger! She brought her hand back a little when the little chocobo snarled, more out of surprise that a bird could snarl than fright at the fact that it was angry at all.

She watched Faiga at the cupboard as she reached her hand back in to pet the top of the little one's head. "I hope you like the name I give you." She whispered to the chocobo with a soft smile, glancing back over to Faiga in time to see the cups. Wine? ...Oh! Blood? How interesting. "Really?" Crescentia blinked and took the cup she was being offered, looking down at it curiously. "Is this really chocobo blood?" She asked with geniune curiosity. It was possible that he was pulling her leg! Her other hand rest over a small piece of her tattoo that could be seen from under her top.

"Soooo what do I do? Just drink it and say his name?" She didn't know how this worked with chocobos!

Seduire was laughing merrily at the sight. That looked funny! Too bad his laughter was more of a squawking sound, damn lack of human vocal chords! If only. When the cat bumped against the wall and fell off Seduire hurried over and helped the cat back to his feet. Who? Me? Blame the wall for being in your way. Because nothing is ever Seduire's fault! Of course not, what a silly idea. Seraphine was pouting at Seduire. Seduire, don't hurt Shiver.

Lysium earned her attention again when she asked about her ghosts. Finally! Someone who would believe her! Maybe if Sera told Lysium about them Lysium could tell her mommy and then her mommy would finally believe her! "They's meaniefaces!" Sera answered with a frown, drawing evil ">:D" and "D:<" faces for the ghosts faces. They always said she had no talent and that she was terrible at whatever she was trying to do! Only Seduire believed her because he was usually there at the time...but no one else ever did!

Faiga studied Crescentia's face and had just come to the conclusion that she was a natural beauty as she petted the little chocobo. The animal seemed to respond with a truthful gaze and rubbed his feathery head against her hand.

With a grin he shook his head. "No, not really. It's just a tradition to tell the children of the tribe it was so they don't want to drink the alcohol. It's berry wine." He smiled and followed her hand towards the tattoo. But he didn't dare to ask about it. "You say something incredibly important, of course. 'I, Crescentia, proclaim myself to be the guardian of this chocobo and I will care about his upcoming.' Which means you have to visit him regularly, you know? 'May he grow and become a healthy part of his clan. From now on you shall be named...' After that we both take a sip from the wine and pour it over his head."

Shiver glared at the bird for a moment. He should have known that birds couldn't be trusted. The daemon still liked Seduire but he would be a bit more cautious around him now. Your turn. The cat proclaimed and added: Or don't you dare?

Lysium pouted inside her head. Damn, Sera was quite a good story-teller. It was quite obvious that she wanted to be the center of attention or that it had to be a very funny game. Nobody knew why it happened the second time, but Lysium simply made up another anecdote she had never experienced. "I have ghosts too! They...they...are mean!" Quickly she copied the ghosts drawn by Sera, but tried to make them even more horrible. "Why are yours mean?" She needed more information. Indeed.

He was so adorable! She was already clearly attached to the cutie! Crescentia giggled like an excited child, tracing at the tattoo she'd just been covering with her hand and glancing at the wine. "That's clever. My clan does something like this, only we get a tattoo above our hearts...well...the men do, women have it on their right breast." She pointed to what could be seen. Then she smirked playfully and traced circles on his chest, stepping as close to him as she possible could with a seductive little purr. "I could show you sometime if you want." Clearly she was just teasing him, and she started nodding excitedly when he explained to her what she was supposed to say. Of course she would visit! Why wouldn't she?!

She had to rethink what she was going to name him for a moment, having forgotten briefly because of the excitement. Oh! Right! She cleared her throat and took a comfortable step back, her hand still on Faiga's chest. "I, Crescentia Belvidere, proclaim myself to be the guardian of this chocobo and I will care about his upcoming. May he grow and become a healthy part of his clan." She turned her head to the chocobo. "From now on you shall be named Corvus." Like the constellation! She glanced up at Faiga to wait and drink at the same time, copying his every motion.

Seduire glanced at the ball. How would he even get on it like Shiver had? He walked over to the ball and sat on it, sitting on his feet so they would stay up. It was like he was sitting on an egg! He'd dared him! How dare he think Seduire wouldn't live up to a challenge? Crazy cat.

Sera didn't care whether or not she was the center of attention...she'd be heartbroken if she knew Lysium didn't really believe her. The little girl gasped when Lysium told her she had ghosts too. Oh, poor gullible Seraphine. Lysium had ghosts too?! So she really must believe her then! She set her crayon down on the paper, being sure it was in no danger of being damaged. "Really? They make fun of me!" She frowned. She looked around for a moment to see if they had any sort of instrument. Even a kazoo would work. If she could show Lysium maybe the girl would understand...

The chocobo got onto his feet and moved closer to Crescentia as she had focused her attention on him. She was saying something meaningful, he could feel that. Or at least he hoped for some food, we'll knever know.

Faiga almost started to cough repeatedly as the woman was clearly making an offer. At least for him, as a man, it sounded like an offer. Or was it a joke? She looked so nice, the shy one wasn't able to distinguish. For a few seconds he literally stared at the tattoo, but that time he remembered that it probably wasn't polite to stare at one's chest.

Finally he noticed that she had just said the name and rose his glass. "Corvus it shall be then." He took a sip, nodded and emptied the glass on the chocobo's head.

Shiver rolled around on the floor and laughed loudly. He looked like a hen on an egg, like a little chocobo on an egg. But only girly birds lay eggs! The daemon grinned and started to push the ball across the room.

Lysium glanced at the playing daemons, but forgot about them quickly again. It really appeared like Sera was talking the truth or she was the best storyteller in existance. The Forgotten decided to let go of her own story and listen to the one told. "That's mean."

Lysium followed the movement of Sera's eyes and noticed she was looking at a little flute Faiga used for calling the chocobos. "Want to use that?" It lay on a cupboard on the other side of the room and usually Lysium shouldn't use it, but she didn't mind that rule. Her father hadn't said that Sera couldn't use it anyway.

It was an offer if Faiga wanted it to be. Crescentia felt a bit bad when she poured the wine on poor little Corvus, the sip she had had tasted delicious, and she was worried she'd drown him! But if it was an important ritual she'd just go along with it. Besides, Faiga wouldn't tell her to do something if it was dangerous to the chocobo!

When the glasses were empty and safely put away she wrapped her arms around Faiga's waist in a gentle hug and put her head on his chest, watching Corvus. "He's so adorable!" She squealed again, lifting her head to look up at the man with the brightest smile. "Thank you so much, Faiga!"

Seduire's feathers fluffed up. Penguins! Daddy penguins sit on eggs too! He said in defense, flapping his wings a little to keep him upright as the ball was forced into movement by the cat. Oh geeze! This was harder than he thought it'd be! Sera was laughing in Seduire's head.

The girl that was laughing on the inside was looking up at the little flute Lysium had pointed out. She put the crayons back into the safety of the box and pushed herself to her feet, walking over to it to get a better look. It had a hole at the end...it could work... "Sure!" She answered after a moment.

...Oh no...what if they decided not to show up?! Sera was terrible at playing anything right now because she was so little, but if the ghosts didn't come out to criticize her then Lysium would think she was a liar and she'd be so embarrassed! Maybe this was a bad idea after all. Sera's lower lip pouted for brief second before she calmed down. It'd work...it HAD to! She'd play SO bad they just had no choice but to come out of hiding!

Faiga smiled and picked up a towel from the side of the box, drying the unhappy one's head. The chocobo didn't seem to be pleased with the ritual, but the man knew he'd forget about it as soon as he was able to drink some milk.

Hugging Crescentia back he smiled. "Let's go back to the children, I guess?" He was quite nervous as he looked into her eyes like that.

But...penguins like the cold! Do you like that? Shiver asked as he had lots of fun shoving the bird-ball around. He had seen pictures in a book, which had been brough by Lysium's teacher. There had been something about cold, he was sure.

Lysium glanced at the acrobatic movements of the daemons and made sure that Shiver wouldn't bump against the wall - again. As Sera started to play though, the Forgotten Document winced. That was really terrible. Ok, perhaps she was still learning, but it didn't sound nice at all.

Waiting a few seconds nothing seemed to happen and Lysium was quite sure that they had to be scared of the music. She narrowed her eyes to look closer at the flute. Did something come out?

Crescentia gently traced the tattoos on Faiga's face with the tip of her index finger, moving her other arm up to hug him around his neck. There, now she was much more comfortable. "Oh, right! The girls!" She'd almost forgotten! The gypsy hopped up onto her tiptoes for a moment to press a gentle kiss to the corner of his lips the way she had back at that playplace. "Let's go back in before they get into any trouble." Although that kind of thing was hard to imagine her dear Sera and little Lysium doing anything bad.

Seduire thought for a moment as he was spinning, clearly starting to get quite dizzy from the looks of it. ...Not especially... He answered right before a close call with smacking his head on a chair, ducking quickly and wobbling away.

He did fall off when Sera started playing though. That was terrible! His feathers were ruffled making him look like a puffy ball. Why was she doing this in public?!

Sera's eyes were squeezed tight as well, showing she clearly did not enjoy how badly she was playing. She did however get the effect she desired...sort of. "Alright already! Stop it!" A high pitched voice cried, Sera stopped playing and stared at the end of the flute. Whoever it was didn't want to come out, so she took the flute and started shaking it up and down with the opening at the bottom so the ghost would just fall out. The ghost did eventually fall out, bumping its head on the floor and glaring up at the girls as it rubbed its head. "Can't believe you did that!"

Faiga felt a certain kind of tension entering his body as she came so close and was tempted to kiss her back as she already moved to turn towards the door, which lead out of the stables. Damn, next time he would simply grab her and kiss her and...Blushing and grinning quite a lot, Faiga didn't move.

Shiver watched Seduire's maneuver and appeared to be quite impressed. Good, good! As the music echoed through the room, the daemon stopped just as the bird did and looked at Lysium quite scared. The appearance of the ghost caused him to brizzle up his fur and run back to hide in Lysium's lap.

The Forgotten Document simply stared at the little ghost, eyes wide open. It hadn't been a story, it was TRUE. Why did Sera have such interesting things and she hadn't? It was unfair, but after all they were friends and so they could share. It could be an awesome secret. "Who are you?" She simply asked and glanced from Sera back to the ghost. Shiver hissed at the strange mythical appearance.

Satin and Lace

Playdate with Viviana ( DivineSaturn )

{
It was cold. Definitely cold. And snowy. Viviana didn't mind snow in itself- it was a lot like water, which she adored- but she really didn't want to be outside in the first place. If it was up to her, she would still be at home. Probably sulking nonetheless, but at least she would be sulking and NOT dragged out of the house and having to listen to Outcry grump.

Coldcoldcold, he practically hissed, letting out a jet of water that was more like foam. His water insulated him from a lot of things, but the temperature of the air affected the temperature of the water. And while he knew he could stand it being a lot colder, that didn't mean he had to like it.

Usually Viviana would have tried to soothe him, but that day she just tugged on a long bit of Zvonimir's hair grouchily. "Cold. Home?"

Zvonimir sighed and tried to explain to the child in his arms again. "Not yet, Viviana. We're here to find you a new winter coat, something that will keep you warm. Don't worry, it shouldn't take us too long."

Of course, that was what the chime spirit said before he saw the size of the children's section of the Barton Department Store. Who knew kids needed that many clothes? Sighing, Zvonimir patted Vivi's hair and looked around for girl's clothes in her size. They had to be around there somewhere...

She hated that woolen cap so much. It was absolutely ugly, but Faiga always forced her to wear it on snowy days. But luckily Faiga had promised her to buy some new clothings, because she was slowly growing out of her dresses.

Shiver seemed to enjoy everything about snow, because his fur looked as if it had funny dots and he could play snow catching. His tongue was peeking out of his mouth trying to catch as much snow as possible.

Lysium rolled her eyes at him, but as Faiga didn't look she tried just the same. It was fun.

As they entered the department store though Shiver started to whine.

My funny fur is gone and now it's all wet.
But we need some clothes for me. Some warm ones and nice.

The daemon pouted but accepted the offer to be carried by Lysium. The girl was quite amazed about the vast UGLINESS of this place. Everything appeared to be ugly. Pink, bright green and yellow, uh.

Faiga smiled. "Try to look for something your size you like, Lys."

You didn't have to tell her twice. Accompanied by her daemon Lysium started to march through the lines until she found some dresses she liked. But wait, who was that girl over there? Wasn't that a whale? Moving closer she examined the pair.

Zvonimir was starting to regret coming out at all. He did not belong in a children's clothing store. None of them did, probably. But they were there, and Viviana really did need a coat, among other things. If he could find something amid all the ruffles and frills anyway.

Wincing a bit, he put Viviana down, which turned out to be a trickier task than he'd anticipated. She whined and whimpered and tried to hold onto his clothes and his arms and worst of all, his hair. "Please stop that, Lady Viviana," he pleaded. "I won't go anywhere, I promise. But I need to look at the clothes to find what we need."

Pouting, Viviana finally let go, freeing Zvonimir to the oh so delightful task of browsing the clothes. Outcry floated up next to her, brushing up against her arm when she didn't seem to notice him right away. Should have pulled harder, he commented sourly. Don't like him.

Viviana ignored him as she often did when he was whiny. Zvonimir was the closest person she had, ever since Daddy...

Who's that? It seemed that Outcry's attention had been diverted. Using it as an excuse to get away from the Music Man, he swam closer to the strange people. It was a girl. And... a cat? At least it's not a bird, he rationalized.

Dunno, Vivi said, finally looking where he was going. The girl looked a little bit familiar, but she couldn't quite remember why.

Faiga was slowly following his daughter as he looked for something nice to wear. He knew that Lysium would regret all of his offers anyway, but still it served as some kind of entertainment to the man. Besides he didn't like busy stores and hoped she would find something good soon.

Lysium looked at the girl and her daemon, smiled slightly and turned away again. They needed clothes and if Faiga chose them, they'd surely be horrible. Let's go, Shiver. I like the dresses over there. The cat looked at her and frowned. That was so inpolite! He did something he did quite often and simply stepped up to the pair.

Hello. The cat greated the whale and Lysium sighed. She wanted that black dress and the golden stars AND she wanted earrings. But she couldn't go away from Shiver and if she just picked him up and went away it would be very very inpolite. So she was trapped. Looking down at the younger girl she started to speak:"What are you doing on the floor?"

Viviana didn't have the slightest interest in clothes. If times were different, she might have had fun looking at all the different colors, before rejecting them all and gravitating towards the white stuff. She liked white. It was clean and solid and relaxing. But none of that mattered anymore, at least, not at the moment.

Hello? That was all? Outcry snorted, wondering if he was supposed to be impressed. Hello, little mouse he replied, tempted to shoot off some water. But that would probably yield more trouble than it was worth.

Be nice Vivi scolded, but it was more reflex than anything else. Then she heard an actual voice, and not one she recognized, so she looked up again, and only then realized that she was still on the floor. She hadn't really felt like getting up, but now that it was brought to her attention she grabbed onto Outcry's tail and used it to pull herself to her feet, ignoring his protests.

She did not know this girl, but Zvonimir had been teaching her to be polite, so she tried a wobbly curtsy, keeping one hand on Outcry for balance. Why was she on the floor? "Cause," Vivi answered. "Who's you?"

Lysium frowned slightly as she noticed how angry Shiver got as he heard Outcry's reply. Mouse? It had to be a mistake indeed.

I'm a cat. You're fish. Aren't you afraid of me? The daemon tried to look as scary as he could. What kind of greeting was that? First he had been grateful that it wasn't a bird AGAIN, but now...

As the girl got up Lysium turned her attention back to her. Usually people did what she said and weren't so...straight to the point? Narrowing her eyes cautiously she responded. "I am Lysium, this one is Shiver. Who are you?"

She didn't really wait for an answer, but turned to a rack filled with clothes, to look at them. Once in a while she glanced at Viviana. Of course she listened, but the girl didn't have to know.

New Years Celebration

...

"We should be going, Lys." Faiga yelled as he was opening the front door and only turned his head to look at a very grumpy young face. Lysium leaned against the wall and glared at him, arms crossed in front of her chest.

"No."

The father sighed and closed the door again. They had been trying to leave for almost an hour now, but the girl refused to wear the necessary make-up on her face. In fact, she hated it. "We don't want red stripes." Lysium hissed and sat down. Shiver, who had been seated on her shoulder, almost fell off.

Good. We don't do things, we don't want to do! The cat supported the Forgotten. He was angry that he hadn't even been offered to dress up too and if it was a party like Halloween he had a right to be just as dressed as everybody.

Faiga kneeled down and looked at the golden eyes of his beloved daughter. "We will go. We have to. And you need the make-up, because it's a ceremony. It's for my tribe, I'd be happy if you do it."

"I'm not happy." Lysium simply commented and looked away from him. She would have worn something she didn't like, but not stuff on her face. Not in red! And stripes! No!
