That would be awesome because that is something I have always wanted to know. Let's try this piggy http://columbusbestblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/02/pig-chinese-ny.jpg

Okay that worked. The piggy is so cute n____n <33
I'll have to find a birth chart online though, cause I don't have a scanner anymore T.T Just hang in there till I find one.

In the mean time I hope every one participates. I still have a few people who don't have piggy pics up. If I don't get one in soon I'm gonna have to remove them from the class. I hope I wont have to do that.

Before removing them from the class, maybe you should send them a PM and see what's up. They may be having like family trouble or something and haven't been able to get online.

Yeah that was the idea. I don't want to get rid of people just cause. I will follow up and see what's going on. I'm not a mean old hag XD

Year of the Pig - too cute

Ok, I hate trying to post pictures so did it as a url.

Sorry, I wasn't here over the weekend. Life is insane with Mabon coming up, Pagan Pride on 09/23, and preparing my daughter for her 2nd degree on Samhain.

It's alright Miss Skylar! That pig is adorable! I love it! <3 All the entries are cute XD I love piggys n_n;

Alright there is onle one more person missing, but I'm going to go ahead and start the topic that I've wanted to share. Now to understand something, I usually take a step back and find out Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How. So when I got started on Eastern Astrology I looked up the beginning to understand the end. I want to share with all of you the traditional Chinese New Year. Why it's important and how it relates to Wicca.

Okay the reason I find learning about eastern astrology important is that the it's A) another way to feel one with the universe and B) The holiday connected to each zodiac is very spiritual. Chinese New Year is the biggest holiday in China. It is celebrated every year on different days. This year it was on February 18th. The start of the year of the pig. Next year it will be on February 7th. The year of the Rat begins.

Some ways to prepare and celebrate the new year, the reason I've taken such an interest to them, are;

~Clean House- Before the New Year arrives, the Chinese consider it very important to give the house a thorough cleaning, Sweeping away any bad luck that may have accumulated over the past year. I see this as a first step to a ritual. Like taking a bath before a ritual, or sweeping the area where you'll set up your alter.

~DECORATE!-Door and window panes are often painted red, considered to be a lucky color. In addition, people like to hang paper cuts on the doors and windows. (Paper cutting is an ancient Chinese art from dating back to the Han dynasty.) Decorations are like setting up your alter. They also put you in the mood for festive times.

~Don't clean for the first few days of the New Year-if you do any sweeping during this time, you risk sweeping away your good luck. In this text it's like cleaning out all the good energy you've put into creating your ritual or alter. It's also collecting energy. During the first few days the home and you are collecting energies. It's like the beginning of your ritual. You focus and wait for everything to fall into place.

~Make an offering to the Gods. This is exactly what it says.

I like celebrating this astrological holiday because it's very much a ritual in itself. So I want everyone to discuss the idea of this holiday and plans, if you wish, about celebrating next year. What do you think about the holiday? Talk about whatever you feel relates to the topic. Any questions?

I believe the holiday is very interesting and fun ^^. I have a friend who is obsessed with the Eastern Astrology, the only reason why I know I'm a monkey, and she does something similar to what you posted every year only thing different is she lights candles according to the color of the animal.
e.x- year of the dragon she would light green candles or dragon shaped candles.
I ranted >< sorry about that, but it is a fun holiday and I'm glad its closely related to Wicca in some form of manner. As for next year I'm probably going try an celebrate it. School ruins fun holidays for me ><
I must ask though, how did the Chinese come up with this? Thats been bothering me for years >< Now I know that its probably a belief just as the Western Astrology has Gemini and the such, but I never understood what the animals were for or what they represented.
Now you have two questions. sweatdrop

I have a question. How does one know the date for each new year? Is there a specific timeline set down or is it a pattern....? sweatdrop

I'm not a hundred percent sure on what exactly inspired this astrological happening, but I do know that back in the Shang Dynasty, which is roughly between 1600 BC - ca. 1046 BC, is where it all started. They used astrology to do math, judge days and predict outcomes for many different things. Here's an excerpt that helped explain things to me a little bit. There may be more questions after reading the passage, but I will teach some of them later so just hang in there. (I will have to double post, don't kill me!!!)
The animals represent the 12 Earthly Branches of the zodiac. (I will explain later) They are a sence of time. That is sort of why the days of the Chinese New year are one different days. They followed the orbit of Jupiter, the Year Star, thus the twelve months are represented as twelve animals. So you see the animal were just a way of telling the difference of time. The people of the Shang Dynasty were very wise and spiritual. I hope this answered your questions. n_n

As far as I can tell there is not set patter, but twelve years from now the year of the pig will return and it will run on different days then it has this year. I don't know of any set cycle, but I'm not all knowing, so if anyone does know then please feel free to share! n_n;;
