Zach stopped when Mica did, turning to stare at him. Oh ... s**t, bad question to ask ... He hadn't meant to make the other think about bad things or ... or anything.

But then the other boy's attitude totally changed again, and Zach blinked, mouth dropping open. So that was all ... fake? It hadn't sounded like it to him ... nervously, Zach shut his mouth and swallowed, trying to decide how to react. If he confronted Mica, he might get the truth, but then again he might not ... and they had just met, after all.

"Uhm. I dunno if 'cool' is the word I would use ... but I really did almost believe you for a minute," he said finally, forcing a smile to his face ... lying, and hoping Mica didn't see through him so easily.

"Not quite cool? Hehe, what word would you use then?"

Micajah laughed a bit and raised his eyebrows as he seemed to have finally found what he was digging in hsi pockets for, and with a single motion he pulled out a rather crude yet still beautiful butterfly puppet. He slipped it onto the tip of his middle finger and wiggled it a bit before turning his gaze away from the puppet and back towards Zach's face.

His cheeks turned slightly red when he relaized how childish it was to have a FINGER PUPPET of all things out on his hand all of a sudden, and he grasped at straws to try and explain the sudden action. It seemed extremely out of whatever character he was trying to build with the other boy at the moment, and when he stumbled across a resonable answer he spit it out without hesitation.

"Oh...don't...mind the puppet. Whenever I tend to feel a bit nervous or uneasy or jsut in general I pull it out and wear it. I sort of think of it as a treasured companion."

He rubbed the side of his cheek with his index finger and blushed a bit more as he felt the butterfly poke his face as well, and he almost felt like closing his eyes so he could not watch Zach's expressions...even though he really wanted to.

Zach blinked again, eyeing the little finger puppet. Secretly, he thought it was actually ... kind of cute? Maybe? But no way was he about to say that out loud. "Well ... I only meant, it wouldn't really be cool if that had happened ... it would be kinda sad, I think," he murmured, smiling slightly.

"Sad? I wonder sometimes."

Micajah rested the tip of his butterfly puppet against his lips as he thought about what Zach had just said, and deep down he did wonder a bit if he should be sad. He wasn't, at least not at the moment, so he shook the thoughts away and turned to look at his companion.

"I think of all the places I could have gone to, here is certainly one of the better choices. At least here I'm among people my own age and can actually attend classes. Speaking of which...I'm probably going to fail. I'm not very good at keeping my work ethic up in things that don't interest me."

Or things I won't find useful in my future, he mused to himself.

"How about you? You look like the type that gets his work done quickly and has his projects done days before they're due."

"Ha ... not really," Zach replied at that, shaking his head with a rueful sort of smile. "I'm a huge procrastinator, actually ... which is kinda bad for this place, since there's no set schedule or anything." He ducked his head a bit, thinking of times he just hadn't wanted to go to class at all. He'd kind of made a schedule for himself, so he would go ... but he wasn't very good at following it.

"Eh, so in your case looks can be deceiving."

Micajah grinned and wiggled his finger a bit as his spoke, his words sort of choppy like he was timing each syllable with the passing of the butterfly puppet in front of his face.

"But sometimes I think having a free schedule makes things so much easier for everyone, procrastiners included. If you're like me and forget when something is do and then panic, finishing it right away...only to find out it's due in two months, it's perfect."

boy howdy, did that happen ever so often in his case. It wasn't that Micasjah actually had a bad memory or was lazy, he usually just ended up having to do other...things...and would never find time for his school work. That was more of the reason why he also had tutors and didn't attend a normal school.

Zach blinked slightly at that and then suddenly laughed. "Yea ... yea, that sort of works, if you put it that way," he replied after a minute. "So you end up procrastinating too, huh?" he asked, glancing over at the other. If he had been asked to guess ... he wouldn't have thought that about someone like Mica.

But, as the other had just pointed out, appearances could be deceiving.

Micajah smiled and shrugged his shoulders, feeling a bit tense as the subject of the conversation once again swayed in his direction. What to say, what to say?

"Usually, since most of the time I have other things I need to do. Violin lessons, languages, sport activities. So it's more of a putting it off in favor of something else...or forgetting in general."

His mind tried to think of things normal kids did in an effort to find a way to toss it back. He did do lots of normal kid things though, so it wasn't that hard to do.

"The most common thing is though, that I find a book I like and end up focusing on it until I'm done reading. In that time I end up neglecting everything else, you know?"

This was true.

"Or sometimes when I get new sheet music for my violin I end up staying awake for hours or days on end in an attempt to perfect it. You've got to do something like that too, right? You said you're fascinated with Elves, so I would think when you get something new on them time seems to stop?"

Zach listened to the other with head tilted slightly to one side and then smiled and nodded. "Yea ... I totally get the book thing, I do that too sometimes." He didn't play any kind of musical instrument himself, but he liked to just sit around and listen to music now and then.

And elves... oh yea, he liked learning new stuff about elves for sure. "I kinda wish I could y'know ... corner one of the elves here in a room for a few hours and ask all the questions chasing each other around in my head." He broke off, and laughed. "But that'd be kinda weird... and rude, I think."

"I don't know, that actually sounds like such a fun idea. We'd have to try it together sometime - I'll hold 'em down and you ask away."

Micajah let off a wide grin as his mind played out a rather dumb scene of finding and actually tackling an elf to the ground, his mouth running a million miles an hour as he popped off question after question. Sure he's dad would be furious that he went after another person, but part of him felt like he'd get to act like a normal kid after all that.

Sometimes getting yelled at for whatever you'd been doing was the only way to let you know your real age, at least...that's what Micajah felt. At least if you were also being yelled at...it meant someone was noticing you.

"Let's make a plan of that sometime, you think?"

Zach blinked at the other for a minute and then laughed, nodding. As crazy as it sounded ... doing something like that might actually be fun. Of course, not that they'd really tackle and hold down an elf. Probably they wouldn't even be able to ... but still.

"Sure, why not ... we just have to find ourselves an elf..."

"I don't think that task should be too hard. This school has more of then in it than you'd like to think."

It was true, or at least he was pretty good at finding elves from amongst the humans. Part of him thought it was due to his like of wacthing people and memorizing human mannerisms, perfecting his views so that anything outside fo the norm could be considered 'different'. Another part of him wondered if it was because he'd been informed beforehand.

He liked the first option better, as it was a bit more true.

"But then you know, would it be worth getting into that much trouble? I wouldn't mind doing it if it helped you out in what you want for the future."

"Well.." Zach said slowly. "Maybe we shouldn't actually kidnap one..." And he smiled at the other in a kind of goofy manner. "But if you want, we could just track one of 'em down and ask if they'll answer some questions?"

That seemed like a better idea ... he didn't really want to get into too much trouble here - since he didn't want to get sent home or anything. Ugh...

"I do agree we should just find and ask someone, someone preferably close to our own age. I think someone young like us is more willing to help someone at least seemingly close to their age, while older people would look at us and our questions like a nuisance."

Micajah nodded a little inwardly about being treated downwards because of both age and race when in the presence of elves, but he didn't want to let that get to Zach through how he was conveying himself so he simply smiled outwardly.

"That being said, I don't know of any elves close to our age here. At least, I haven't met any of them. I'm pretty sure I have a rough of idea of who is an elf and who isn't, but I don't want to rush head first into things and get myself or you into trouble, you know?"

He let off a light-hearted chuckle at his way of calling Zach a 'friend' by saying he didn't want to get him into trouble, and he turned his head to the side to glance about as they continued to walk. And his face blanched.

"Oh, hey...where are we now? This area looks a bit more familiar than it did a few moments ago."

Zach nodded in agreement at maybe finding someone their own age to ask. "Hm... well, I don't know any elves, but my friend Jaden seems to know a lot about them in general." More than he did, anyway.

"He can even read a little of their language... maybe if we got him to help, one of the teachers or something wouldn't mind a few questions," he suggested with a smile.

And the glanced up. "Oh! Yea, we're close to the dorms now... think you can get back from here? I have some studying I should probably do.." he said then, looking faintly embarrassed.
