Being so new to the church, Moryera doesn't recognize the starved, twisted form of one of its oldest members. The shrill chant, however, is very familiar to her. She's heard the same howling with a quieter, less desperate tone time and time again outside her Charity home. She has also learned slowly that once you give the ones demanding gold a few coins, they run off without so much as a "thank you", never to return. Mory pokes her head around the taller Modists blocking her view, and shyly offers her misguided advice.
Maybe we...ought to give her some gold. She seems to like that one piece she's got. Maybe if she gets more she'll go away...it normally works that way back home...

Katane shakes her head grimly, hearing Moryera's advice.
I don't think so. Who ever she is, she came here for a reason. It's hard to stumble your way here by accident....

Kiji watches the woman's interaction with the bowl of water, her eyes slowly growing wider and wider until they look like they might just pop right from her face. She edges closer once her old friend has collapsed and reaches in slowly to push Song's hair back from her face. My Mod... it's Songlian. Where's she been? Kiji is shaking a little and she pulls back again, as if she's afraid the gold-fever will jump from host to host.

Song...li...an? You mean, this is someone you know?
The full impact of the situation seems to hit the new convert all at once. "Songlian", that's a name she's heard before, in stories of the early days of the Church, perhaps. How can such greed come from one of their own? Mory kneels down to get a closer look at the woman.
Ohh...what's happened? Even when she's unconscious she doesn't look at peace. Was there something wrong with the water?

I don't think there's anything wrong with the water. It's holy water from the sanctuary, blessed by the mods themselves. I thought it might help.......
Looking at one of the churches oldest members, Katane couldn't help feeling pity. What could have happened to make one of so high an order stoop so low? It seemed a shame that one of their own should be wearing filthy rags and begging for money. Concerned, she crouched down and put her hand to the girls forehead, brushing aside a few stray hairs. It was hot and feverish, and even in unconsciousness, Songlian seemed to flinch from her touch.
I think she's sick.
Turning around, Katane looked at others, questioning them with her gaze.
Where has she been? What has happened to her?

I don't know! gonk I assumed she was away doing missionary work or something like that. Ohhh, this is the last thing I would have expected to happen in a place like this... It does look like she's sick...but what kind of an illness -is- it? She only passed out after she drank the water, and I don't know of anything that reacts to simple -water- that way...
Mory, unaccustomed to anything more supernatural than the occasional pink link, ignores the fact that it was holy water causing that particular reaction. This isn't the movies, she thinks. You can't really hurt anyone with holy water. Besides, Miss Songlian has been a Modist before I even knew a Mod existed. It should -heal- her, if anything... That little train of thought out of the way, Mory's attempts at a logical analysis of Song's symptoms still turn up nothing.

(Possibly having her hava a reaction to the water was dumb, since with my character unconscious, I'm a bit stumped for how to bump this back to the top of the page short of going ***!!!BUMP!!!*** and having everyone hate me. :S But then again everyone's vanished anyway, so... whay the hey.)

With dismay, Katane realizes that the others don't seem to have any reaction to the present crisis. She looks them each in the eye, testing their will, imploring them to do something. Finally, she gives up, and takes it upon herself. She stoops down and scoops up the figure in her arms. Then, with effort, she begins to carry her to the sanctuary.......
Could someone please help....... I'm not strong enough to do it on my own.....

Kiji gives a little gasp, finally shaking out of her stupor and she comes forward quickly to help Katane. Does anyone know any first aid? We never did get around to appointing a church nurse and all I've got in my desk are bandaids. She smiles sheepishly, reaching to help the newer Modist carry the elder into the church. Can somebody get the door?

I'm afraid all I remember from my first aid class was the video they showed us with the woman who got third-degree burns... Mory shudders slightly at the memory before focusing on the situation at hand. OH! The door, don't worry, I can get that... She darts over to the church entrance and manages to hold open a door much larger than herself long enough to put a doorstop in front of it. Do you think we should call a doctor? She'll probably only get worse if we don't get help.

*opens the door, and points to the altar*
Place her there.
Kij, we don't need a nurse...But what I have planned is indeed arduous. If this is song, and there is a trace of belief, we should be able to help her with a laying of hands.
*smiles weakly*
We are saints after all.

Kiji's eyes widen and she blinks, then nods once, bringing Songlian over to the altar. Now that you mention it, Rom, I keep forgetting that little detail. sweatdrop

Mory follows the two older, winged women at a bit of a distance. She's caught between her desire to see what miracle could cure such a serious illness and her attempts to stay as unobtrusive as possible.

With Kijis help, Katane rests Song on the altar. Colored light from a neaby stained glass window falls upon the girl, a rose tinted spotlight, a rather touching effect. Under the dirt and rags and sweat, Katane sees a glimmer of what was once a beautiful and wise person.
Katane then steps back, giving the two saints the space to work their wonders. She watches from a small distance, not wanting to leave, but afraid to get involved.
