Muskratio gonk Not another young person! I hope not! gonk Any regeneration would have to be fairly young wouldn't it? Wouldn't make sense for any time lord to regenerate into a more vulnerable, older state.

That's not true at all, but I bet I know where you got that idea. rofl Rowan Atkinson (who is indeed awesome, BTW) played the Doctor in a short parody several years back. It wasn't actually affiliated with DW, though, and he doesn't count as a Doctor. And he definitely isn't going to be cast as the next one. XD That might be kinda awesome, though, if he was. o_o

I mean... they shouldn't even be LOOKING for a new Doctor. Tennant has been confirmed through 2010.

I really cant wait for Catherine Tate to come back though.

I would love it if that were so, but what's all over the news is that after the '08 season, they're taking a year off so Tennant can go be Hamlet, and coming back for another season in 2010. And there will be three specials starring Tennant in '09. o_O I can't wait for Tate, either. I think that might be the best decision they've made so far regarding the new series. XD

Amata19 Muskratio gonk Not another young person! I hope not! gonk Any regeneration would have to be fairly young wouldn't it? Wouldn't make sense for any time lord to regenerate into a more vulnerable, older state. Well, maybe they could get someone around Tennant's age again, but I think he should at least look a little older than he is, rather than younger. I really really don't want them regenerating him down into a teenager. xp
Just for reference, here are the ages of all of the Doctors at the time of their first episodes. (Well, approximately anyway. I may have got the ages off by a year or so because of birthdays and airdates. I haven't had time to look at exactly when the episodes were filmed, either, so that might throw things off a bit.) As part of my point, all of the times when the Doctor has regenerated into an "older" body (read as: been replaced by an actor older than the previous one), are in italics.
1. William Hartnell - 55 2. Patrick Troughton - 46 3. Jon Pertwee - 50 4. Tom Baker - 40 5. Peter Davison - 29 6. Colin Baker - 40 7. Sylvester McCoy - 43 8. Paul McGann - 37 9. Christopher Eccleston - 41 10. David Tennant - 34
So, out of nine regenerations, four of those have been into an older form. Almost half.
And since I've got the numbers here now, the average age of an actor playing the Doctor is 41.5.
Please correct me if I've made any glaring errors here.
Edit: Just realized I should have also taken into account the leaving actor's age at the time of regeneration, too. Patrick Troughton probably would have been around 49 when he left, so 49 to 50 isn't really much of a jump. But Tom Baker would have been around 47 since he was on for seven years, which makes the jump from him to Peter Davison at 29 even bigger.

Tennant always looked younger than Davison to me, so I was surprised when I found out that he's older. XD Davison always looked kinda like he had a receeding hairline... o_O

Yes, I agree he does look younger. He looks very young to me. So my point is that I don't care quite as much about how old the actor is, as long as he doesn't look way too young.
