this is kind of a funny topic for me. i love makeup. it''s practically one of my favorite things in the world. if i don''t get a decent college scholorship, my a** is in cosmetology school, because i truely love makeup. i wear a sheer foundation, no concealer (i don''t need it), powder, about 3 different shades of blush, two different colors of eyeshadow (my eyes are green, so i put green in the crease, with brown, pink, or blue on the lid), about 5 different tubes of mascara (one to separate the lashes, one to lengthen, one to thicken, one to darken, and sometimes blue tips because they''re fun), gold or brown eyeliner, and a natural shade of lipstick one shade darker than my normal lip color.
call that gross if you want. tell me that i hate myself, and that i have no confidence, and that i don''t feel beautiful without it. i think i''m pretty without makeup, call me vain if you wish, but i wear it anyway. it''s fun. and think about it, if you started learning a song on the guitar, and it sounded pretty good, why wouldn''t you keep practicing to make it sound better? why wouldn''t i improve my looks? it has NOTHING to do with low self esteem.
and about 11 year olds in makeup. i wore make up when i was about 11. i would wear a light brown eyeshadow and a very faint peach blush and a random lip smackers. everything was very natural, and i was always fully clothed (i hate my stomach, so no belly shirts for me). i started wearing it, not because i hated myself, not to make myself more pretty, but because i knew how, and wanted to practice. i didn''t want to learn how to put on makeup when i was 15, because i''d mess it up, and i wanted to make my mistakes early, so no one would remember my blue lipstick phase. i didn''t introduce most of that stuff i wear now until i was about 13. my 11 year old make up was very slight, just a hint of color on the eyes and cheeks, barely even noticable. i DO see children with blue eyes and blue eyeshadow (which make me GAG! SO UNFLATTERING!!), with overly clumpy mascara (which, yes, i practically have twiggy eyelashes, but that''s too weird on an 11 year old, and i balance it out by not having beauty pagent blush and matte red lips), and red lips. that''s WEIRD! i wouldn''t let my daughter out of the house in THAT kind of makeup! stores like limited too really bug me, because they tell small girls to wear little cheerleading uniforms (the sell those, i''ve seen a girl in them) and low cut tees that just aren''t right for a small girl! i think i remember WANTING this thing of powder blue eyeshadow from that store in 5th grade, but i couldn''t get it (my mom probably didn''t want me to look like a whore, and god am i glad that i didn''t get the powder blue eyeshadow; that would have looked terrible with my skin tone). i loathe that store...

I wont ever dare to wear make up again. The fear of it being animal tested has resided in my brain. Besides those're made from animal fat etc. --- so no thanks. No make up for me. 3nodding

she's young in years, but she's more mature than many her age (or so it seems).this is true...but my feminist beliefs (alright, they're pretty harsh or strong) its like....you can wear make up...that's okay, but I see all these little kids all dolled up and stuff...and its kinda annoying, and the fact that somebody can be what it seems and yes, I note that my words might be a bit harsh, but to talk that long about make-up is not just over done, but its just...ugh, hold, trying to figure out how to say what I am thinking.... make up just...first most aren't very animal friendly, and being young and wearing make up...starting at 11? When I was 11 I was talking to my parents about politics, and make up was something that was kinda like "what the heck is make up...that's gross" in the mind of me as an 11 year old (oh side note, I am female) but...if you wear so much make up, think of how much time you're spending on improving your self image...do guys wear make up? usually not... why? might you ask? Partially because of social acceptability, and the other part is that they don't really care about how they look. So...I was wondering "beauty_of_masquerade" could you go a month without wearing any make up?

I love getting all dressed up and going out (I'm a goth, after all...) and I'll do the makeup thing with it, but every day?? gonk I'm pressed for time just combing my hair! Why bother, it's not like making my lips a different shade of pink is going to make me cuter...

I wear a bit of foundation and some eyeliner. It takes me less then 5 minutes to do and the foundation usually ends up coming off by the end of the day anyways. Just something to do I guess, I don't have anything to do with my hair so I guess I feel like I have to do something. It does give me a bit more confidence but if I forget to put it on or whatever, I do fine without it.

So...I was wondering "beauty_of_masquerade" could you go a month without wearing any make up? So I can't really respond to that with a full paragraph, SO: 1) Fantastic. It is great that you loved politics as a kid. So do I, but I've been playing with make up since elementary school (I'm just a few months older than briuseviolet up there.) The two aren't mutually exclusive, and I'd go as far as to say that by denouncing a commonly feminine activity that somebody enjoys, you're being predjudiced about what exactly makes a feminist. Good for you, fight fire with fire. 2) I know A LOT of guys who wear make up. My ex didn't like the way he looked without eyeliner at all. Guys don't care about how they look? Might I point out another gender role that you are in fact perpetuating while trying to denounce gender roles? I'm not trying to single you out by any means, but the fact is that you cannot simply dislike something because of the people or media associated with it. Hate the ideals that advertising sets. Hate the cosmetics industry. Do NOT, however, hate something because it is commonly associated with the female image.

Hate the cosmetics industry. Do NOT, however, hate something because it is commonly associated with the female image. part of the point that I was making with the males usually don't wear make up is that its socially acceptable for a male not to where make up, and pretty much it seems like society is "womyn must wear make up to be pretty" just seems as if society, and the media is promoting so much plastic surgery and make up... I was watching Larry King for some reason...not really sure why, and there was a woman on that had over 30 procedures and she wanted to get more, its just that we live under insane standards of beauty for women, and its like a double standard or something. A womyn over 120lbs isn't on tv (okay there are some exceptions) and guys are in the media with flab and such...

the media is nuts and everybody knows it. whether or not they find makeup cool and think that it's nice to be in shape, most people recognize that shows like the swan and i want a famous face are complete jokes. the people who really go through with that s**t are nuts, but they are also not a good representation of the entire US populace. just because a lot of ladies do, by no means is it unacceptable for women not to wear makeup.

I'm not one for make-up; I enjoy my sleep too much in the morning, and when I do get up, there's not enough time to do much except for maybe some concealer. I don't mind people who use make-up to look better, but to completely hide themselves under it really gets to me. At my school, there's people who overabuse the bronzer, mascara, and eyeliner. gonk They look like orange raccoons with three eyelashes.

exactly. i'm too lazy to do makeup, generally. a couple swipes of mascara, maybe a little eyeliner. two minutes maximum.momo.PEACHiE I'm not one for make-up; I enjoy my sleep too much in the morning, and when I do get up, there's not enough time to do much except for maybe some concealer. I agree with you. n_n
But I do wear lip gloss sometimes.... TIS PERTY. But it's usually the stuff that's just like colored lip balm.
But my philosiphy on this is that if someone can't like me from the person I am naturally... Well, that's their problem.
Zin, I know girls in my class that striaghten their hair EVERY DAY.
I couldn't imagine doing mine everyday... I have curly, thick hair, so it takes almost an hour to straighten mine.
