Shogun Drizzt Flea... he's solid and does things that most bass players dont... but his s**t's easy... and he doesn't know what he's doing musically... that's what he said in this video i saw... and that's when I lost respect for him as a musician sure he doesn't but its just his fast slap that people like, he may not know how to play music like all formally and stuff, but he knows how to blast out some fat beats in my opion.

JHogan Most overrated bassist? hmm i would have to say john paul jones from Led Zeppelin. hes one of my favorite bassists but his stuff is really easy to play. yeah of course im a little overrated by people in my town though everyone in my town thinks i can play anything just because i like to play slap bass really fast. all of my friends think i can play everything by primus. i mean i can play just about every metal song out there if i listened to it but im still very crappy at slap i can play it quick but i dont have nearly as much attack as les claypool yeah but hes not overrated his proformance does match his ratings No Led Zep has some of the most melodic bass lines I've hurd. Sure its not fast and hard and all crazy like claypool, but its ******** magical, that's what Led Zep is about.

I know that that is the magic of Led Zep. thats why i like them. its just that his stuff is easy to play. ill agree on the melodic statement though. hes amazing with those pretty much the way i see it is that all bassists have there strong points

I'd agree with you that it is easy to play though. A lot of slower bass lines are easy to play. But then when you look at most death metal bands its just EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE for six minutes. Though that's not to say all death metal bands.

Like I said, he's a solid bassist, but when I constantly hear people saying he's one of the greats... it pisses me off

JPJ is certainly not overrated in my mind, probably because he's the most underrated person in Led Zeppelin. I don't think there are many bassists out there that meshed with the drums as well as he did, he just left those holes that made the rhythm section breathe. Anyone with that kind of groove can never be overrated IMO.

I think him improvising every song they've done and him still being respected as a musician is pretty damn amazing. Does it make him any less talented because he doesn't know his scales or know how to read music? No, it means he's making music without having learned theory, and pretty good music too. I also don't think he ever said that no one should learn theory, just that he got along fine without it.
