Thanking Ray and flashing her a cheerful grin, Will wrapped his hands around the warm bowl and sighed. "Ahh. Tha's nice. Funny, ain't it - no matter 'ow 'ot it is ou'side, it's always good t' hold summat warm. 'Specially if ye get t' eat it after." Mana seemed a little unsettled all of a sudden, and he thought it best not to ask or dwell. Sometimes his cabin-mate would leave in the middle of the night, waking him, and he had a feeling it happened more often than he knew. The only times he woke up were the ones when Mana accidentally disturbed something in the dark, or caused Scrap to wake and meow for food.
Shaking off that train of thought, he stirred the stew experimentally with the carved spoon, pleased with the consistency and the rich scent. He risked taking a small spoonful, too, though it was probably hot enough to burn his tongue - ouch, yes, it was still pretty hot, but it was good. Perhaps he was biased after eating ship food and scavenged meat for so long, but it seemed to have improved since last he'd had some.
"Whatever ye did t' the recipe, Rusty," he called in the vague direction of the kitchen, "it worked! 'Ey, tha's a peppercorn - where'd ye get pepper? Did we bring tha' back? ...Say, Mana, when this cools a bit ye oughtta give it a try. S'good." He worked his way around the edges in the meantime, mostly managing not to scald himself on the hot stew. When food was concerned, Will was seldom if ever patient. Having a brother like Robert to steal off his plate had taught him to eat fast, like what he got, and regard each and every bite as a small victory.

Mana shook himself out of his depressing thoughts and smiled to William. "Thank you. I shall have a bit, but I must fast for awhile to thank the spirits for our safe journey. I also must find my own little place to bed down for the night as I'm rather sure you have enough of me on the ship." He grinned at his friend, knowing William would protest at the remark, but it would be nice to have a quiet place of his own that wasn't a few thousand feet up in the air.

Will nodded slowly. Space was a good thing - as much as he liked Mana, they didn't need to live in each other's pockets. "I ain't sick o' ye yet, messmate," he said with a small grin, "but I know yer feelin'. Still, if ye don' find nowhere, or ye need any 'elp, ye know where I am."
He didn't understand Mana's need to fast, but he didn't need to understand it either. Still, why would the spirits want a man to be hungry when he got back into port? If he were a spirit, Will thought to himself with an internal chuckle, he'd want the poor soul to sample the best food and drink available as soon as possible...

"Oh don't worry about me. In Haiti you must build your own home as it is a very poor place. Also if you would like to come see my ceremony you are welcome. Perhaps it will prepare you for your next visit to my villiage. It's not often an outsider witnesses our celebrations." Mana knew that much as he was an outsider himself, allowed in due to the love and devotion of his adopted mother.

((Apologies for my extended fail! I have been busy, and somewhat stumped as to how to respond. XD))
Will grinned broadly. "Ye got yerself a deal there, Mana me ole messmate." Truthfully he was honoured, but it didn't seem right to say that out loud. He and Mana didn't lie to each other as such, but absolute honesty felt out of place in their relationship. There was a comfortable distance between them that he didn't want to cross: he was quite content with their friendship as it was, more than content even, and changing anything was unthinkable.
Something nudged his leg. He looked down into a pair of pleading eyes. "...Scrap."
"Mew."
His cat had always been the expressive sort. Will laughed, gently scooping him into his lap. "How'd ye find yer way in 'ere, ye liddle pudden'ead? No, ye don' want none 'a that stew. Ye'll burn yer liddle self if ye try eatin' tha'. ...'Ere, I'll find a bit o' meat for ye an' cool it off."

Rusty shuffled in his little room, grinning at Will's words, "You guys bring a lot back, sometimes too much for me to know what's there until you finally leave again!" he yelled back, "them peppercorns are probably from the last time Isaac brought you sea dogs back here!" He hated to admit that he was slow at logging what supplies the Cuore brings back.
"Anyhow kid, it should be no surprise that my changes work!" He laughed loudly, "I've been making the most delicious food long before you were even born!" he shook his head at himself after saying it, he really hated to admit he was that old, especially when Ray was still as youthful as the day he met her.
Rusty then walked out of his room and towards the door, "Ray, I should go see what Isaac's brought back this time," he smiled. "If anyone else comes in for food, you better not give out anything without proper payment!" he growled before walking out the door and towards the Cuore Scuro.~~~~~ Ray smiled when Rusty bothered to actually say something back to Will. It wasn't common for him to talk to anyone other than her, so either Will said something that made him happy, or Rusty was holding himself back from making Weasel Soup. Either way, it was a nice change for once.
Ray nodded to Rusty as he left, "I know, I know, there's no reason to be telling me you old crow!" she giggled softly. Ray knew that Rusty hated when she would give out free food or drink, but what would they really do with Doubloons? The Cuore brings back most of their supplies, and anything else is found in the jungle of the island. No merchants ever came to the island, knowing the tales of the 'demons' who live on it's cursed surface... Ray shook her head softly, then continued to clean some coconut shell cups and bowls.

Mana watched the older gentleman leave and went back to drinking his water....ok so he drank like a bird. He looked to his friend with a smirk as his cat demanded some attention. His Darling had ran off into the forest in search of birds. "So William, what is there to do here? I must admit flying without having to worry if I'm going to have a place to land or not is nice but I don't know my way around the island."
