This was...unexpected.
In every story Charming had ever read, the Prince off to save the Princess was always solo, was always fighting terrible beasts, and very rarely met people on the way other then villains or fortune tellers.
And they never, ever met other Princes after the same thing the hero was after.
Yet, as he sat on top of his horse, looking down from a large green hill, he saw that his future beloveds cursed prison was surounded by...military men.
Soldiers.
The kind that followed royalty around like a plague.
Royalty such as a traveling prince.
Had another Prince beat him here?
Charming could not even comprehend the very idea that inside the tower there was another prince, kissing his future wife awake. That simply didn't happen in stories, it was against the rules. The fact that his life not being a story might change the rules never crossed Charmings mind as he struggled to come up with some other possibilty.
The tower door open. Miliatary men walking about outside the tower...kidnappers!
A villian was trying to kidnap the princess and...and deflower her in her sleep!!
This was the only explanation, as only the princesses one true love can wake her from her spell, and Charming simply was too immature to even consider the idea that he wasn't this Aurora's destined lover.
No. As we speak, Charming knew his lovely future bride was in terrible danger, and that he must save her, sword swinging, his voice roaring, fire in the distance! The way a princess should be properly saved.
Charming smiled, feeling much now that he had figured out what was going on before patting his horses head.
"Come Valiance. It is time to risk everything for the woman I love."
Valiance, who was actually a rather clever horse who had been gifted with an intellect but no voice by a rather lazy fairy as a foal, simply rolled his eyes and neighed. His master could be such a ninny at times.
"In the name!" his master once again dramatically roared, sword held high, "of Auroraaaaaaa!"
And so, with no real clue as to how he would get into the tower and take on the at least thirty men below by himself (and his horse, who really did love his master, even though he was nuts), Charming rushed into battle.
