Excited Apathy

Obsessive Hoarder

Helaku whirled and snorted at the sound of hoofsteps. "Who's there?" he said, his voice slightly rough with challenge. "Show yourself, if you mean no harm." His patience was short these days, and the manners he was raised with often frayed.

Oh great...a stallion's voice... "Uh huh...it's okay I'm not some hunter." Turning around the corner she saw the male. Looking frokm head to toe, she could tell that he had the markings of an animal. Well, just like mother... Continuing her walk, past the stallion.

Helaku's ears flattened at this. "Don't patronize me, miss," he rumbled in a low, but somehow still calm tone. He turned his head and started to turn to face her...and stopped, staring. "...Tetyawna?!"

Stopping in her tracks, she turned around in confusion. What the...? "No, how do you know my mother?" That of course gave away that she was obiviously her daughter. Looking at him, she blinked. Hmmm...I thought I would have resembled father more... "Uh..." she gulped, wondering if it was a bad thing or not, that he thought she was her mother.

Helaku blinked, and then took another look. On further examination, this mare was darker than Tetyawna, but she was certainly very similar in appearance, much like he was lighter than his mother Delphia but still looked uncannily like her. Mother...did that mean... "You're her daughter?" he asked, sounding a little confused. Shaking his head, he backed up a step. "I'm not sure you want to know how I know her..."

Awnae, for the first tiem, felt worried. "Yes, I am." Looking down at her self. "Uh...I guess I'd rather not ask." Than she started to trot to a near tiny river stream. Okay, something definetly has happened between them two. Lifting her head up high, she looked at him. "Well...are you and my mother friends?"

Helaku looked at her as he thought about this a moment. "You could say that. Haven't seen her much since soon after she had baskets though...and I don't think I ever saw the foals." He dipped his head. "I'm lacking my manners it seems...I'm Helaku."

"Nice to meet you Helaku. I'm Awnaety, Awnae for short." She took another sip before continuing again. "Well you've got to visit us sometime. Oh yes, about the foals, you've seen me of course. I have a brother, named Micah. Although he doesn't live with us, as you see he likes living with his human." Taking a deep breathe then looked around at the sky. "So it is just father, mother and I..." Laying down beside the stream she looked up at him. "So...tell me about your family.."

Helaku smiled slightly at the similarity between her name and her mother's. "Perhaps someday I'll do so...as for living with humans, my parents live with theirs though I don't have one of my own." He chuckled softly. "My family? There's my father Sora, mother Delphia...and my brother Dyre, though I haven't seen him much. I hear he's got a mate though...hope he's luckier with that than I was."

His last sentence made her wonder. Now she definetly wanted to know what had happened between Tetyawna and him. "Well, do you mind telling me what you mean by 'luckier that you were'? Does it have to do with anything with my mother?" Once again looking at him from head to hoof. This doesn't sound too good...

Helaku shrugged. "The mares don't seem too interested in me," he said, neatly sidestepping the loaded question. "Not permanently anyways...had a mate for a little bit, but she got jealous of some issues in my past." He looked evenly at her. "And before you ask, no, she wasn't your mother." He hid what pain there was well, only a hint of sadness in his golden eyes betraying it. "Yes, I was interested in her for a bit...but it didn't work. Chu'mana came after."

A confusion look came over her face. "Chu'mana?....I see. So mother and you had something, but then I guess it didn't work. Well I wouldn't be surprised, she does look beautiful...many might've fallen for her." Awnae has always admired her mother's looks. "Sorry to hear about you and your second mate though...but I don't think I can do anything to help." The mare stood up and started to walk in circles, after a while she stopped and watched the clouds float by. "Well, hmph...I believe I will be going towards the lake now, if you wish to, you may join me." Nodding at the stallion.

A form was crotched low near the water crashing down onto the calm pool. There were smooth stones of different shades a little further down from the roaring water that the young native seemed to be gathering. The colorings intrigued her since she had never seen anything like them before.

She was a young woman who had seen many-many moons. One braided pigtail had fallen over her shoulder, the length almost down to her pelvis. It was rich black hair that shined in what little sunlight peeked through. Her skin was dark from being out in the heat and the sun. She looked up and her eyes were a sharp emerald color. She continued about her work, looking for one that she could shape into a small stone to hang about her neck.

A bright green one caught her eye and she snatched it out of the water. She moved a few feet away from the water where it was not so loud to her ears, but the coolness of the water would beat away the heat within the dense woods. She pulled out a stone knife and a long piece of leather she had wrapped about her waist. She cut the piece and began to wrap the small green pebble until it was held securly. She pulled the two ends about her neck and tied them together, creating a necklace.

She had chosen the color of the grass because her love had stated that it was his favorite color, the reason he had loved her so much. She smiled faintly to the memory knowing full well that he was still alive and well. She had seen him in her last dream wandering about near a lake looking for her and calling out her name. Yes, he was well and she would be as well in this new area.

"Well...I-I guess the answer would be yes," replied Thelerian his cheeks reddening slightly."But o-of course it might just be a friendly kind of relationship....I mean she's a winged and all...,"
Here the painted stallion paused and shook his head. Like the other had said, it wouldn't do to worry to much about the situation. For all he knew, both of the females may already have mates of their own.

"Oh, and my name's...Thelerian. Please to meet you Couscous," said Thelerian nodding his head slightly.

"And mine's Elan!" screeched the hawk from above.

She moved further down the river and watched as the water became calmer, like life did after a difficult time. She looked up at the sky and paused a moment in thought, wondering if they would ever meet up again. She smiled to herself though, knowing he would be far too stubborn to give up on her and her dream had been an image of the past or the future yet to come.

She had walked several yards down the banks and finally took a rest upon a rock jutting out from the cool, calm water. She took a rest and looked up at the sky, feeling more secure that it was one thing she and her love shared.
