Maia rose to her knees as Lori spoke, and caught Toby's eye. No idea. She watched and listened as the woman spoke. A fairy queen; she'd never imagined coming into contact with one her second trip out.
Would this work? It had to. And the woman seemed to know what she was doing--she was ancient and magical.

The woman rose then and approached another end of the room. She murmured the same phrase to be heard echoing from the first man they'd met and the crystals came on. It was these lights that gave Lori the most hope. Obviously this was the kind of place that employed crystal enchantment.
In this newly lit area was an ominous circle carved straight into the stone. From a small chest she began to draw objects with no discernible origin and began to hum to herself as she placed them around the circle. "Oh, come here, little one," she said mid-phrase, and Dari followed and did as instinct said; keep your head below the level of the queen's.
"You are not fae," she said then.
"No, Your Majesty."
She gave a tittering laugh. "You have many who love you."
"I believe so."
"I see so," she said, gesturing to the others, and then crooked a finger at them. "Come."
Lori stood and approached with the least fear and looked over the objects on the floor. Stones, scales, something dried...
Toby followed shortly after with his head lowered. Alright, all of this was pretty new to him.

Maia was surprised when they were beckoned, but followed after Toby, watching the fae queen with curiousity. Was this some sort of spell? She looked toward the objects. Ingredients for something?
She looked to Toby, eyes wide. She didn't want to say anything unless spoken to, didn't want to distract the queen from whatever she was doing.

"Join me around the circle," the queen said, then continued to sprinkling something in the center while humming pleasantly. Every time she blinked, it was as if a tiny light blinked out for a moment.
Finally she seemed to be done and she tucked the aventurine into the pile of... stuff. Lori sat directly to her left, and Toby to her right. She physically nudged Dari between her and the crystal, and the poor man looked so frightened.
"Only one fae. Hm," the queen said, "This'll be interesting."
Toby sighed. Oh no...

Maia sat beside Toby, blinking. What was going on? She'd never seen magic like this before. One fae? There were three, counting the queen, just in this room.
Did so few make the spell more difficult? She took Toby's hand and gave it a squeeze.

"Yes, yes, join hands," the queen said, as if she had seen Maia's grasp for her lover's hand. Then she spoke to Toby and Lori: "Place your hands on my shoulders, please?" Then to Dari: You just tuck your in your lap, little one."
The queen put her hands on Dari's shoulders and met glowing eye to glowing eye. "There's something in you, child. Something good." She closed her eyes then and began to give soft instructions.
"Now I need you all to imagine your lifestream and your good wills coursing through you, through your hands and into me, and from me into the little one. The process will take some amount of his own life power and without your help it may not end as we wish."
s**t. Toby tensed a little, but forced himself to relax, closed his eyes, and began to imagine. Lori swallowed hard and did the same.

Maia took Lori's hand as well, when instructed. She tensed as the woman began to speak. This ritual seemed like it would take an awful lot of energy, and if Dari wasn't helped, it'd end badly? Possibly in Dari being hurt? Dying? Her grip on Toby tightened just slightly, and she closed her eyes.
She imagined all the love she had for Dari and energy flowing out of her.

For a short while, there was silence. Then the queen began to speak in that same unfamiliar language, her voice undulating between high and low tones and sounding like singing at times. It seemed like it was taking forever, but Toby continued to visualize until he heard a sigh and a pop. Then silence.
"It is done," the queen said.
Toby opened his eyes and immediately his hand slapped over his mouth. Dari was gone, at least in the form he had gotten used to. He was just a formless blob, full of floating bones and eyeless. A small puddle of black lay on the surface, and his eyes were gone. The sigh he had heard had likely been the deformation of Dari's lungs. Toby gagged.
Lori was sweaty, weak. Oh dear God what had happened?

Maia opened an eye, and then both snapped open wide in horror at the sight before her. She leaned against Toby. Had it not been enough? She felt weak, but the sight of Dari in a formless blob woke her enough for her to look around. Oh God. She looked to the queen. Done? This wasn't done! Dari was supposed to be here, safe and happy. A tear fell down her cheek.

Toby's attention snapped to Maia and he wrapped an arm around her, rubbing her shoulder. "Shhh..."
The queen put a hand to her lips. Clearly she had never seen anything like this before.
"Did I kill him?" she asked.
"No," Lori said, "I mean... probably not. Did it work?"
"We won't know until we try it, hm?" Then a conversation continued in that strange archaic language.

"I don't like seeing him like this," Maia muttered, still leaning against Toby. Lori didn't think he was dead? But how-- He didn't LOOK okay! This was like when they'd found him after he'd crashed, wasn't it?

It was something like a baby Dari, just a lot bigger. There was nothing to be done for the moment. If he was alive, he certainly wasn't moving. That'd be the only indicator.
"I'm not sure what's going on," Toby admitted. He could see the jagged piece of crystal digging into his friend's..uh. Underside. It didn't look comfortable.

"I hope this works," Maia said, looking to the blob. She wiped at her eyes with a hand. She didn't want it to fail and have Dari have to regrow. She wanted this to work more than anything else, at that moment.

Finally the queen returned to English.
"We can stay the night, or until he recuperates if you think that is the case. I'm sorry it happened like this, but with a life form like him..." She trailed off and shook her head. Her hair didn't seem to agree with the motion. "How will we...ah. Move him?"
Lori rubbed his forehead and sighed. This wasn't good. This was just a big, immobile sack of fluid.
Suddenly the blob moved. It was slow, just an inch, toward the queen. Then it stopped.
"Hey! I knew he was still in there," Lori said, smiling. Toby grinned and patted the blob affectionately.
"We'll get you back to good in no time," Toby agreed.

The movement sent a rush of hope through Maia. She smiled. "Dari, you're alright," She said. What'd happened? Had he fell asleep? But he didn't really do that.
She smiled at Toby. It took Dari hours to change shape, so they'd be here a while, but he was alright!
