Lalwen looked at River thoughtfully. "Yeah?" she asked softly.

River smiled at her. "Yes. I know sometimes there are more important things, but playing is a lot of fun." She tilted her head slightly and looked at Miyuki curiously. "Why did you introduce me that way?"

It seemed a bit strange to her, that Miyuki would make that the first information she offered about her to the younger girl.

River giggled. "Oh, I see. Well, maybe tomorrow we can all play together. What do you think?"

Lalwen smiled shyly. "I'd like that," she said softly.

River grinned at her. "Are you going to join us for some food?" she asked. "I don't know about either of you, but I'm unbelievably thirsty."

The desert heat had that kind of effect on people who weren't used to it.

"When isn't he?" River quipped as she followed Miyuki to the table.

She had to admit, however, that even she was hungry, though instead of taking bread, which absorbed moisture, she chose the more moist food - a bright pink fruit with green horn-like tips on its skin, and one that was long and thin like a banana, but brown instead of yellow, and not as curved.

"You have to cut the dragon fruit," Lalwen told River, reaching for a knife and handing it to her. "You can't eat the skin. The yucca is fine as is, though."

Lalwen blinked at her. "Uhh ...."

River giggled at Miyuki as she cut the fruit in half. "Why is an apple called an apple? Who knows why anything is called what it is?" She tapped the skin of the fruit. "Maybe because it looks like it's got scales."

That was her best guess.

"Of course." River smiled at Miyuki and cut one of the halves in half again. She gave one of the quarters to Miyuki and offered the other quarter to Lalwen, who accepted it. Then she cut the other half for herself.

It was a nice mild taste, but it had a weird texture from the hundreds of tiny black seeds that were in it. River grimaced a bit, but as she got used to it, she found it was actually not that bad - and then she started to enjoy it.

"I bet this is something Andarien would like," she told Miyuki. "He seems to like things that don't have a lot of flavour."

Andarien was sitting on the other side of Amalirahc, sucking on a piece of bread that was sticking partially out of his mouth. He was listening to the various conversations that were going on around him, though he wasn't really understanding much of any of it. He was a little lost, but he felt like that was fine for now. He had his bread, and that was enough for the moment.

Andarien looked at Miyuki and swallowed down the rest of his bread.

"What's that?" he asked her, taking the fruit in his hands. He took a bite of it and chewed it thoughtfully. The tiny seeds crunched between his teeth, but that didn't bother him at all. The soft sweet flavour was just what he liked, and he grinned at it.
