HAHAHAAHA <---can only read the 三國 part orz. I'm lamer than you all think, yo! Least they say I speak it well o 3o. No 'mei gwo lun chang' or whatever (american accent). I don't have the proper Taiwanese accent though, so some adults can immediately tell I'm not from Taiwan.
HAHA yes THAT GAME. It's getting rather popular. PLUS THE ROBES ARE SMEXY.

Okay *explanation mode*
The family is for fun. For example, on gaia, Kittiffy is my 'sister' we just kinda decided that- just like on DoMo, they're not really my family, we just kinda decided that for fun o 3o.
Now for Rivals. Domo matches people's birthdays and zodiac signs up, in the chinese manner, so they can calculate your 'natural born rival' (gibberish I know) and your 'relatives of another life' people who supposedly were your relatives in... well... another life. Also your 'lovers' people who supposedly are 'perfect' with you- people's who zodiac work well with yours. It's all based on chinese zodiac and beliefs though.
Lovers can have bonuses in battle- to become official, you gotta talk to the lovers regestrar, and pay for the levels using dreamstones. Lovers get boosts during battle when they're near each other- thus some friends make each other lovers just for the heck of it.
Rivals just... well... fight each other o 3o. They might have bonuses as well, but they're not very good- the best are bonuses from lovers and teacher/student relationships.
Teachers- or people who have been in domo for a while- can get 'students' or newer players. They don't have to necessarily though, but if the student levels up, the teacher gets bonuses.

So if you friend somebody, do they automatically put them in those categories? Because you are just an 'aquiantance' now. D8 AND THAT IS NOT TRUE.

Nope, not just one of them. They automatically go into 'aquiantance', and you gotta pay dreamstones to raise it to 'friends' where you'll be able to also get boosts on the field. The skills are random though, and only appear sometimes orz.
I'd rather we became 'lovers' though, since we get better boosts- the skills automatically activate at 50% hp- *SHOT*
Only some people end up as 'rival' 'relative' or 'true love'. It all depends o 3o.
Edit: oooh yeeesh... can you be my teacher, dear Blaire? you'll get bonuses, free stuff, and free exp and such o 3o. All we have to do is be in the same team and talk to this one dude. You can be teacher, and earn stuff until I 'graduate' (at level 20). Then, I'LL START ANOTHER JOB AND WE CAN DO IT AGAIN TO EARN MORE STUFF *shot*
