Seamus hurried to the stupid kitty and sniffed her head while Maia bent to pet her. Ah, yes. This one was smaller than Peaches, though. Perhaps even more stupid. He got distracted by some nice-smelling herbs in a bag about the same time as Maia got distracted by polished hearts.
"Alright, cool," Toby said with a nod. If she wanted them he certainly wasn't going to stop her. He owned some of his own in the side garden!
"That blue one right there, that's sodalite, and the green one is amazonite. If you're curious I can tell you what they're for," the shopkeeper said, and waved her hand dismissively as if to say Maia didn't have to worry if she didn't care. "Come on over here."
She went to the desk and crouched, then pulled out an enormous wooden tray of crystal pieces, sorted by type. "Now, aventurine. That's this one."
Dari reached out a ran his hands over the stones, caressing them like a lover with a gentle thumb. Could this really be it?
"And you can guarantee us this is genuine?" Toby asked.
"Oh, absolutely!" the woman chimed, "I don't fool around with stuff like that. The bigger pieces can get a little pricey, but I'd rather give my customers something they can use than just make money."

"What're they for?" Maia asked. "I was thinking about putting them in the garden," She added, looking to Toby. She studied the stones in the tray and smiled brightly. This was it, it had to be.
She bent to scoop up Seamus. "C'mon on, kitty. It's time to get ready to go." She scratched at his ears with a finger before setting the heart stones on the desk.

"The sodalite, that's for the third eye chakra, right here." The woman tapped her forehead. "It's good for creativity and intuition, and then the amazonite, that's for caaalming. That one's more here," she said, gesturing to the chest and throat, "in the fourth and fifth chakras. Now. Who is the aventurine for?"
Dari smiled up at her slightly. "Me."
"Here," the woman said, "Hold out your hands."
Dari spread out his featureless palms and watched as the woman filled them with stones. He smiled.
"You pick the one you feel the best."
Feel? Dari looked them over, rolled them in his hands, eyed the sizes of his fingers, put some back and narrowed it down to one large chunk. He held it to his chest and sighed, closing his eyes a moment.
"You know, they're good for luck, but they're good for the heart too," the woman said, "That's the heart chakra."
Toby was grinning broadly. Thank God for this lady.
Dari nodded and opened his eyes. "This one. Please."
"Of course," the woman said, "How's a hundred and ten sound? Usually they go for a little more, but I can see, you need this crystal, don't you?"
Dari chuckled. "You have no idea. Thank you."
The woman nodded and winked and soon Dari was holding his very own, personal aventurine crystal.

Lori had, more or less, collapsed upon getting back to the hotel. Today had been worse than yesterday, and he'd returned with all kinda of news and shiny things. With Dari's crystal sitting submerged in a cup of salt on the dining room counter and the excitement bubbled down, he finally crawled off to Skype and saw his beloved there. Ah, what he wouldn't give for a back rub or a snuggle... anything! Their night together before he'd left stuck out in his mind. Mostly, though, he was just tired.
He hit the "call" button and waited.

The call was answered almost immediately. "Lori!" Luca greeted him, clicking the allow video button. "Hi love. I miss you." So much. He'd ended up purchasing a large number of gifts for Lori, once he returned. "You look exhausted," he observed, after a moment. He wished he was there to hug Lori and be there with him.
"Want me to sing you to sleep?"

"Hey, Babe," Lori replied, his whole body relaxing when he saw his love's face. He smiled and rested his cheek on his hand.
"I am exhausted, but not yet. I've got good news. It looks like I found the right clan. I didn't get to speak with the enchantress directly but we're all heading in to see her tomorrow."

Good news? Already? Luca's smile brightened; maybe Lori would be home soon, then! "That's great news," he said. "So she does exist," he shook his head.
"Relatives giving you a hard time?"

"Supposedly, yes. These weren't Unseelies at the very least," Lori said with a shrug. "Oh, my family's a whole other story. I have to contend with them when I'm not out in the field running and driving and trying in general to not get arrested or mugged." The latter was a bit of an exaggeration. Nobody mugged the burly six-foot-tall guy, even if he had the face of a tenth-grader. His ID would get him out of trouble too, but not necessarily as quickly as one might like.
"My mom says you sound like a beautiful woman, though, and she'd love to meet you, and she's so happy I haven't started dating humans." He shook his head and rolled his eyes. "But mostly I just miss you." He touched the screen, and it was just as cold and unforgiving as he'd imagined. He sighed.

"No one's going to mug you," Luca assured him, playfully. "Not when you've got a boyfriend like me! I'm so buff. And stuff." He flexed nonexistent muscles.
"Oh?" Luca's eyes danced with amusement. "Your mother sounds like a lovely woman, Lori." He pressed his hand against his computer screen. "You'll be back soon love, and then I'm all yours."

Lori laughed. He wanted to reach out and give Luca a hug, but of course he couldn't.
"She has her moments," he said then and shook his head, "I know. I can't wait. They came back with a big hunk of crystal, so I think we're going to have to linger here while they forge a ring out of it. Apparently enchanted jewelry is the think to cloak your actual appearance. It's sort of sad to me, you know. Him wanting so badly to be able to be like us. I guess I never noticed. He's always so pleasant. Maia came, though, and you came, and I just keep thinking it must have sucked to stay in that house with the four of us while he was alone." He sighed and shrugged. "I dunno. Hindsight. If it bothered him then he certainly didn't show it much."

"Yeah. I feel I should've noticed," Luca said, sighing. "But it's to be expected, isn't it? He's surrounded by people. Most entities I've met can at least pose as human without much trouble. He can't." Poor guy. "Once you guys come back, I want to do something just us." Two weeks was a long time to be away from each other, he wanted to make up for it. "We can go out to dinner and crash at my place."

"Who, you and Dari or you and me?" Lori asked, and he was honestly curious. Dinner and crashing sounded more like a date than 'just us' did. "Either way it sounds like a good idea."
He paused.
"If this all really is true and it's going to work, what do you think he'll look like?"

Luca stared. "With you, silly," he said. "I want to spend time with you." He missed Lori so much. "I don't know... Maybe what the projector shows? They might use that illusion as a basis for theirs. I hope it does work."
