Every time I see a mosquito these days, I go through a small moral dilemma. Kill it and end a life for my own convenience, or allow it to bite me and put up with the itching? I know it's silly, but it goes through my head all the same.
It's too bad they're not exactly the type of insect you can catch in a cup and send outside; as soon as you lift the paper, they fly at your flesh.
Why can't we reach a compromise?

Why can't we reach a compromise? KILL THEM ARGH I HATE THEM SO MUCH. That and I'm allergic to their bites so my mosquito bites get pretty bad. They only serve the purpose of feeding other animals. And there are trillions of them. They kill kids in Africa, so it's okay if you kill them. surprised )

I've just developed a lot of sympathy for them since somebody presented the idea that maybe to something much bigger than us, we would look like worthless and irritating bugs. I don't even step on ants anymore. And I ******** hate ants. Greedy little freeloaders, throwing parties at my house and inviting all these bugs I don't know and never leaving when it's time to go.
But one of my spiderbros took care of it, so I don't have to feel bad. smile

Why can't we reach a compromise? Mosquitoes serve no purpose other than to suck blood, spread viruses, and annoy the piss out of everything else. They're kind of like flies, except worse. Oh, and they're also food for some of our food. It has a life-span of about 10-20 days and it has an I.Q. of practically nothing. Kill it and don't give it a second thought. They're so annoying even environmentalists believe eradicating them would bring no real harm to the ecosystem.

Humans aren't exactly friends to the rest of nature either...
In any case, the mosquito fed Charlotte an hour ago. Not being scared of spiders has its perks.

In any case, the mosquito fed Charlotte an hour ago. Not being scared of spiders has its perks. We're totally friends with nature. Does anyone even stop to realize that human beings and their antics are just another part of nature? We build s**t out of things that came from the earth. Everything we use is natural. Ants build structures, so do birds and other animals. It's not like human beings are the only creatures making use of the Earth's resources. It's not like we're the only ones whose lifestyles affect an ecosystem. Beavers can totally change and even destroy ecosystems by building their ******** dams. I don't see many people bitching at them. Smug bastards and their derpy faces.

Well yeah, but we're really no greater than the things we consider pests, and I wouldn't like to be punished by swift, squishy death simply for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Karma's a b***h, so I've gotten into the habit of kissing her a**.

I know it's silly, but it goes through my head all the same. just extract him gently, so you dont have to suffer the itch. of course, hell go at it again in all likely hood, but maybe not. Thats what i used to do at least, but now, and for a long time, i just kill them, because they irritate me and it is what i would naturally do. thus, when i succeed, its is as it would be in the natural world, and the mosquito population is affected accordingly, if i fail to kill it, the same holds true. Certainly i am more of a danger to them, in fact i could even be called a predator. a dog cant even reach some parts on its back, it is harmless to the mosquito. but being a flexible human, i can easy kill the creature. so to kill a mosquito is natural, and in all ways as just as the rest of the world would allow.

Carchar-odin I'm sure Elephants who trample over trees feel the same way. Funny you should mention elephants specifically. My roommate argued the exact same thing. surprised Rhed King just extract him gently, so you dont have to suffer the itch. of course, hell go at it again in all likely hood, but maybe not. Yeah, I've killed a couple that have come at me out of nowhere on reflex, but every time I do it I feel really really bad about it. I'm glad it fed the spider though. Spiders are useful. Maybe I'll bring one of those along to do my dirty work when I move.

We used to have a terrible mosquito problem, but last year and this year we've had tons of dragon flies and the problem has mostly died down. I'm actually encouraged to stand still outside because i might get to have a dragonfly land on me, rather than mosquito. as for spiders, usually I don't kill the one or two i find in the upstairs hall, as i kinda consider them a filter. however i still don't really like the idea of having a spider in my bedroom.
