Obstacles are like wild animals.
They are cowards but they will bluff you if they can.
If they see you are afraid of them...
They are liable to spring upon you; but if you look them squarely in the eye, they will slink out of sight.

Kaori walked over to the wall of scrolls and picked out one on Genjutsu. She had been slacking on this particular skill, and it was high time she made up for it. She took a moment to look through and see what she would like best. Then, after compiling her mental list, read the full details on how to perform the first jutsu. [1/1] She hummed as she continued to read through the descriptions and tilted her head as she walked from the wall over to a secluded corner, away from Nova and Derych. She didn’t want to catch either of them in any stray techniques. [1/1] Kaori looked thoughtful as she thought about the implications of the uses of the next jutsu. It was interesting, for certain. She could change the layout and entire scenery with this jutu. [1/1] It would be a great way to alter the battlefield. For the next one, she would simply generate ‘electricity’ in her hands. She would then have to simply touch her target to start the genjutsu. Which would then make the target believe that they couldn’t hold body heat properly. And eventually would cause them to feel the effects of hypothermia. [1/1]
Interesting indeed. Kaori smiled slightly and shook her head as she moved on to the next on her mental list, skipping over the ones she had decided against learning for one reason or another. She smirked. She could use her actual flowers for this one, as a means of activating the next genjutsu. She would blow petals into her victims face and that would activate the effect. [1/1] She chuckled and shook her head and smiled as she moved on. She hummed and nodded to herself as she made note of how to perform the next ability. It was simple enough, merely taking away the victim’s sight. Dropping them into total darkness so that they had no way of seeing where the next attack would come from. [1/1] This next jutsu was a subtle one, and generally not really something she would consider. But it could prove useful if she were to use it properly. She read the details on it thoroughly. [1/3] And this one didn’t even require the use of hand signs, which made it even more difficult to detect the execution of it. All it required to activate, was direct eye contact with the victim. Which was something Kaori could cause to happen pretty easily if she so chose. [2/3] Once eye contact was made, the genjutsu was set, which made it easy for Kaori if she chose to use this in battle. The next technique that her victim chose to attempt, would cause them to feel as if Kaori would already know what they were planning. Causing fear to rise and them to hesitate. Which would give her the advantage. [3/3] Kaori made mental note of everything she needed to know and then moved on. She read the description on the next genjutsu and shook her head. She could only imagine what would happen if she were to lose all sense of sound. [1/3] But, against an enemy, it could prove very useful. Often times sound can give away perfectly well laid plans, so to take that possibility away would add an advantage to the user. [2/3] Kaori nodded and memorized the lengthy hand signs needed to initiate the jutsu. Once she had those memorized, she made note of how it would work. First a dark figure would appear behind her, then it would unsheathe a dagger and scream like a maniacal villain. It was the scream that caused the deafness to start. [3/3]
Kaori ran the tip of a finger across the parchment in her hand, reading as she did so. The next ability was one to torment her foe, to make them think they were watching their own body decay at a rapid speed. [1/3] But it would not cause them pain, only an empty sucking feeling It was interesting, and quite disturbing to read the descriptions. It was twisted, yet it appealed to her inner cat. [2/3] The inner cat enjoyed toying with her prey, and this was a good way to do so. She was quick to memorize the needed hand signs to activate the jutsu, then turned to the next one she wished to learn. [3/3] Kaori read the next one and smirked. This could prove to be quite useful to her, and possibly to anyone she worked with as well. It was cast with a simple physical touch. [1/3] Upon touching herself, or anyone she deemed needed the genjutsu to be placed on them, it would be activated. And it could prove helpful whether she chose to use if on friend or foe. [2/3] She could put barriers into someone’s, even her own, mind. It would protect against truth serums and any other type of jutsu meant to extract information from the target. If in a pinch, Kaori could place this on herself and it would not be possible for anyone to take her knowledge. [3/3] The next jutsu would look as if it were a Doton ability. Which would work out well, considering she had Doton as one of the elements she had an affinity for. So it would be more believable, and easier to fool her victims with. [1/4] She chuckled and shook her head. So all she would have to do would be to form the needed hand signs, and slam her hand on the ground. This would create a fissure. [2/4] This fissure would widen and follow the target. The longer the target retreated, the wider the fissure would become, and it would begin to spew heat and ash. If left alone, the heat would grow to be so great that it could cause real damage to the victim. [3/4] Though the damage would not be as severe as the illusion would have the victim believe. She looked thoughtful as her hands never left the parchment. This could be useful. [4/4]
Kaori carefully rolled the scroll back up, and went over to the wall, where she placed it back in its proper location. With that done she then grabbed the Maruton scroll she had had an eye one. She looked over the scroll and nodded to herself as she read the description of one. [1/1] Honestly it was something she should have learned back when she was a Genin herself. The next one was fairly simple as well. She would form the needed hand signs and then she would ask a question. If the target answered, they lost all use of their voice. It was entertaining and could prove useful during interrogations or in simply getting someone to shut up. [1/1] The next ability is simple enough. A jutsu that would conceal her from sight and hide her scent. It would also ensure that no sensor would be able to sense her unless they used an ability of a higher rank and power than this one. The only one’s who could sense her would be those with the ability to see chakra with their bloodline abilities. [1/1] Kaori read over the next ability and nodded to herself. She has traveled many places and would surely travel many more before her time on this Earth was done. So this would prove useful if she were to attempt to deliver messages over long distances. [1/1] The last was a technique t hat was relatively simple. Merely a way of shadowing someone without being detected. It came from the academy days, and honestly, she probably should have learned this a long time ago. But better late than never. She was diligent in reading through the description. [1/1] Kaori hummed and put the scroll back. Time to move on to the last thing on the list now. A scythe style that she had been meaning to learn for quite a while. She just never got around to it between chaos and comas. She shook her head and gave a dry little chuckle at her own thoughts.
Kaori removed the scroll labeled with the name of the Bukijutsu she had been meaning to learn. She opened it up and read it through. Once she read the description for the first stage of the style, she put the scroll away, into a pouch. She would use it to refer to as needed, then she would return it to its proper place once she was done. Kaori took her scythe from where she kept it across her back and adjusted her grip on the shaft of the weapon. The blade of the weapon was pointed toward the ground, and she had her nondominant foot slightly in front of her dominate foot, and they were shoulder width apart. [1/1] She moved on to the next technique. This one would be used for a single swing and did use a little chakra to sharpen the blade. With the swing of her blade, she watched as the dummy in front of her was sliced nearly in two with the strength of the swing. [1/1] Kaori moved toward the injured dummy and swung her scythe blade once more. But this time it was a skill that would not cause damage unless the victim resisted. Kaori hooked her scythe around the base of the dummy and then tugged. If the victim resisted, they would be harmed, but if they simply allowed themselves to fall, or were caught unaware, they would not. [1/1]
Kaori took her scythe back and inhaled slowly. It had been a while since she’d held her scythe in hand, and she had missed it. The next in line to learn was another stance, one to aid in similar ways to the first. She held her scythe in a similar way as previously, but this time she bent her knees and the blade was up by her head, while the pole was against her collar bone. [1/1] Kaori gripped the shaft of her weapon and began to spin it. As she spun the large weapon, she also twisted her body, throwing the spinning of the scythe in the opposite direction of the spin of her body. [1/1] Kaori turned towards a dummy and thrust the blunt end of the scythe at it. The sheer force of the hit thrust the dummy back a full three feet and did the exact same to Kaori. She shook her head and smirked. That would be quite interesting against a living person, for certain. [1/1] Kaori took a wide stance and moved her scythe, so the blade was directly in front of her, with the point pointed towards the ground. This would enable her to ignore quite a bit of defense belonging to her enemies, and up her own offensive capabilities while in this stance. [1/1] Kaori sighed softly and then inhaled deeply. She gathered her chakra and pushed it into her arms and the scythe itself. This would enable her to cause quite a bit of damage. And it was an interesting thing, considering most Buki relied on brute strength rather than this form of battle. [1/1] She took the chakra that she had infused into the whole of her scythe and moved it to the blade. She then twisted on the ball of her foot to slice downwards into a dummy. Upon impact, the chakra exploded outwards in a closed loop around the dummy. The pain that a living person would feel would have then screaming out. [1/1]
Kaori decided then to keep going, she was almost half-way through the entire scythe style now. Why stop there? She took out the scroll and read over the remaining techniques of her chosen style. She put the scroll away before she grabbed her scythe once more. [1/3] She took a very wide stance, with her knees bent so that she was close to the ground as well. She moved her scythe so that the blade was against the ground, between her feet. [2/3] Her non-dominant foot was slightly in front of her dominate one. And her non-dominant hand was lower down on the shaft of her weapon, closer to her body. This would give her less reach, but more strength for each attack used in this stance. [3/3] Kaori could use this stance to her advantage. She took her wind chakra and imbued the blade of her scythe with it. Then she took the weapon and with a mighty heave she ripped it in an upwards slice. [1/3] The wind chakra she imbued into the blade raced forward, off of the weapon, and straight at a dummy. It traveled the three feet towards the dummy and slammed into it. [2/3] She watched as the chakra hit with extreme force. It sent the dummy slamming back into the wall behind it. And on top of the impact, it also was extremely deadly, in that it would rend and tear flesh. At least if the torn wood was anything to go by. [3/3] Kaori immediately followed it up with a sharp downward slice. This slice was also imbued with chakra, though this time it was earth chakra, and performed in much the same way the previous technique had. The chakra hit the downed dummy and carved into the wood viciously. [1/3] The earth chakra imbued the slice with severe cutting power. She was pleased with the devasting results of this technique. It could be quite useful and absolutely deadly if used properly. [2/3] She hummed slightly and twirled her scythe as she looked over the destruction, she had caused with those two abilities alone. She shook her head and smiled. That was definitely a job well done. [3/3]
Kaori whipped her brow on her sleeve, getting the sweat there so it wouldn’t fall into her eyes. Then took up the next stance in the style. Her feet were perfectly even with each other, shoulder width apart. But this time the blade of the scythe was by her head, over her shoulder. [1/4] She closed her eyes and went through a simple kata with her scythe, always coming back to that stance. This would confound her opponents, making it nearly impossible to read her movements while in this stance. [2/4] And that was a good thing, because the harder she was to read, the easier it would be for her to trick her enemies. And tricking her enemies was as good as winning the battle if she could continue to do so. [3/4] She opened her eyes and looked at the dummies around her, imagining they were enemies and friends alike. Watching her, trying to see what she was doing, and being unable to follow her movements. [4/4] Now, it was time to get into some fun stuff. She gripped the staff of her scythe with firm hands and then jumped into the air. The instant she was airborne, she began to spin in a vertical rotation. [1/4] As she began to plummet, she fell towards a dummy. Something that was decidedly not well armored. And this would be something that could shatter armor if she used it at the correct rank. [2/4] She landed on the dummy, blade first, and cleaved the poor wooden thing clean in two. She chuckled and shook her head. It honestly didn’t stand a chance. It amused her, and her inner cat. She could only imagine how Nova would react when the lazy tiger realized what Kaori had learned. [3/4] She took a step back and stared at her scythe, still buried into the wood. She sighed and put her hands on her hips before she made mental note of the next technique. Well, no time like the present, she supposed. [4/4] She gripped the handle of her scythe and twisted her body, using her momentum and the leverage of the floor and wall to yank the blade out of the wood holding it hostage. She then rolled into another attack, one she had learned just moments before. [1/4] She landed on her feet and smiled slightly. That was handy. She hummed thoughtfully as she twirled her scythe in her hands. To be able to remove her blade from anything holding it, and immediately roll into an attack was a great strategic move. [2/4] And, it would startle opponents who believed her trapped or cornered. Of course, what so few seemed to realize was that the trapped animal fought all the harder. And she was more animal than human, most days. [3/4] She flexed her hands around the shaft of her scythe, letting her claws out and then resheathing them. She even had the animal attributes to prove it. Some days she didn’t even think like a person, but rather like a tiger. [4/4]
Kaori shook her head, clearing her mind of the thoughts of animal verses human. Now was hardly the time, and she had long since made peace with the fact that she was more tiger than human, anyway. She took out the scroll and read the final stage, then put it away. [1/5] Once the scroll was safely tucked away in its original position, she drew her scythe from its position on her back. Once she had it firmly in hand, she turned her mind to the next technique. She gathered her chakra and focused it into her arms and legs. [2/5] Then she focused on one of the few dummies in her corner left standing. With her pale eyes focused on her target, she leapt forward. As she did so, she swung her scythe in a downwards motion, directly in front of her. [3/5] The slash was directly linear, and would not be able to deviate at all, but it was still devasting for all that it was fairly simple and predictable. Its benefit lay in its ability to cleave and rend. [4/5] It was a strong attack, and the added chakra in her legs gave her a boost to her speed. While the added chakra to her arms gave her a boost in strength for the attack in question. [5/5] The final technique for the style was named for the style itself. And was nothing short of devasting and, frankly, cruel. It made Kaori smile just reading over the description for it. She shook her head and gripped the shaft of her scythe and turned to the final dummy. [1/5] She imbued her scythe blade with chakra, and then swung in a downward arc. Immediately several blades of pure chakra, identical to the chakra steel blade of her scythe, formed. They were all in perfect circular formation, forming a full 180 degrees from the blade of the scythe itself. [2/5] Kaori smirked and watched as all the chakra blades, or crescents if that was what someone would like to call them, went for the one dummy. There were several deep, deadly, slashes in the wood of the dummy. [3/5] Kaori was quite pleased with her progress and put her scythe to the side for the moment; then wiped her face off. Once the sweat was gone, she took her scythe, took a cloth, and began to polish the blade. Once it was shining, she put the scythe back on its holder on her back. [4/5] She hummed and rumbled deep in her chest, something akin to a purr though not quite, and walked back over to Nova. She looked over at Derych and nodded to him, waiting to either be asked for help, or asked for a spar. [5/5]
