I meant as a defense, and I was refering to the Mandal base, not Shola. Mandal's already got a decent-sized orbital defense, for a backwater planet, combined tih its repair and minor construction facilities.
I was just asking the opinion of hardwiring a mass-driver cannon onto an orbital platform, but I guess it's not possible.

Whats with the Massdrivers? They're meant for anti-missile and anti-fighter duty on most ships, if you're hurling something big enough to threaten a Star Destroyer they'll just shoot the projectile out of the sky before it hits.

You cant mount a planitary defense weapon on a space station. Its not built for it and besides, a Planetary weapon is too massive to instal on an Orbital platform.

I've seen v-150s turned into an orbital gun platform that stands alone, unfortunately it severly cuts rate of fire.
No... your best defense for a planet always will be a fleet.

Depents on the type of Black hole you're implying. I seem to recall that the Maw is a very bad chunk of galactic Realestate.

Alot of things worked for the Empire. Thats why no matter how many times they get kicked in the rocks, they always manage to painfully crawl back to the top of the pile.

I kinda get annoyed with the mass drivers though. I mean, it used to be about turbolasers. Then AotC and s**t came out with basically giant star wars trebuchets with these mass drivers to make them more glorified than what they are. Its everywhere, not just here in the guild...
