X_of_Pentacles You heard the phrase "It takes a village to raise a child" I'll assume; If the village is corrupt and tainted (Drugs, alcohol, lack of any faith, fear of its government and hatred for the things it actually manages to do), the last thing you want is the village to raise the child. Likewise, it's also assumed that a child needs both a maternal and paternal figure in their lives; again, using a survey of those in prison, it was discovered many had single parents, if not all of them. I myself was in a class of public school brats where more had divorced parents (bitter hatred, lost love, spoiled children, loss of one parent for a majority of the week), then those whose parents had stayed together. If the government promoted marriage counseling, not Media driven divorce (Judge Judy, live tv divorce courts), we'd have less one parent homes and more two parent families-it wouldn't be a choice any longer. It would also border on communistic activity, but that would be just one of many governmental attributes that I've seen occur. TLDR: We value the behavioral traits of criminals over the corrected behavior of our children. The more criminals we've got, the more careers we have. The only thing the children seem to give us is more mouths to feed, and more future statistic rates in an working world's favor.(I help pay for 5 Social security users, and a number of Medicaid reliant illegal immigrants.) Most governments - that is, the governments in countries that are republics/democracies, industrialized, and who are, in theory, controlled by choice of the people - aren't going to spend money on promoting marriage, particularly in light of the recent dip in the world economy. Furthermore, people would be up in arms. What if the promotional commercial only showed the majority - or in the case of my country, white heterosexual couples? Would it apply to homosexual couples? What about practitioners of polygamy? Biracial couples? People would angry about control of marriage, if they aren't already. Judge Judy is not the only reason for divorce. From my experience, is often based off of marital happiness. Unhappy can range anywhere from "not compatible" to "won't listen to me" to "infidelity" to "beats me every night and threatens the children." Instead, court TV shows are usually meant as a form of entertainment, though (in my opinion) for shock value. Though I find reality shows reprehensible, to question them would get into the debate of what constitutes as entertainment and whether or not we should limit what others find entertaining. That said, I don't think most people "value the behavioral traits of criminals over the corrected behavior of children." There's a lot of complications in the matter, such as poverty and mental health. (And who do you mean exactly, when you say "we" and "our", for clarification purposes?) On an unrelated note, there's reasons why we have Social Security, Medicaid, and even illegal immigrants, despite the obvious flaws to the system. But I feel I've said enough for now. razz TLDR: I disagree! Here's a few paragraphs explaining why. P.S.: I am the child of divorced parents.

Koemiko Most governments - that is, the governments in countries that are republics/democracies, industrialized, and who are, in theory, controlled by choice of the people - aren't going to spend money on promoting marriage, particularly in light of the recent dip in the world economy. Divorces cost far more then the marriage I'm afraid..Court house fees to get married>practically free. Courthouse fees for divorce? At least 5k and X amount of months to be finalized. Couseling is relatively cheap in comparison; friends, coworkers, self-help books.. Furthermore, people would be up in arms. What if the promotional commercial only showed the majority - or in the case of my country, white heterosexual couples? Would it apply to homosexual couples? What about practitioners of polygamy? Biracial couples? People would angry about control of marriage, if they aren't already. The government should know better. I figure it'd all be good. Personally, that commercial features two circus clowns holding a sign saying "working together gets you more..not less. Counseling FTW."Judge Judy is not the only reason for divorce. Abusers get couseling once they're in prison, infidelity/campatible/won't listen..all have counseling value. Never said it was good, but reality has taught me those who won't listen would need to be deaf for a week to understand what the victim is going though.(has two incompatible parents who refuse to adapt/ adjust.)That said, I don't think most people "value the behavioral traits of criminals over the corrected behavior of children." There's a lot of complications in the matter, such as poverty and mental health. Never said it didn't complicate matters. It's assumed in the criminal justice system I'm afraid. :S All those executives stealing money in AIG and such..they happen to be the minority. They didn't exactly donate the lump sum to the poor either. We could cut cost of soldiers in Germany and bring them back, or cut the after school programs..the latter seem to have won..:S(And who do you mean exactly, when you say "we" and "our", for clarification purposes?) Our Government, We as society..I hate to generalize, but anyone who doesn't seem to riot somehow have to scream and create general terror to be heard (Example-criminals/ marches/women/children/liberals). A one man army doesn't get a response from Government officials. On an unrelated note, there's reasons why we have Social Security, Medicaid, and even illegal immigrants, despite the obvious flaws to the system. But I feel I've said enough for now. razz Alas, another stumbling block in econamics-The Feds can put back all that money they took from the original fund, but not get that bonus. The same Government is backed by insurence companies who refuse to cap the limits or meet the minimum pay net for the year (thus the need for Medicaid-Working a fast food joint, I can't pay for Blue Cross Blue shield-I know I could pay for one month and still not use it in a year. This is something that could follow phone hour credits.TLDR: I disagree! Here's a few paragraphs explaining why. No worries. I can see both pointsP.S.: I am the child of divorced parents. I feel your pain, but realize that while I hate to generalize, I did generalize. 1 out of 4(It's close at least) is a criminal. While a minority in society, virtually all had divorced/ single parent homes where polygamy would have worked out..*one inmate supposedly had 9 children from 4 girlfriends-he was also dating someone on the inside as well* We could cut out the Soldiers in allied countries, the NEEDED bonuses for politicians( I work more hours then they do..they got $50+ an hour! and they didn't have to work holidays.. sad ) or put all that inevitable money towards After school programs and counseling commercials all over the place. Like I said..bad behavior runs the country. *This was fun..oh dear. I'm turning into my parents! 0.0'..(Runs off to check for back problems and bad cholesterol*So long as she comes back. biggrin ..personally I'd just set up another mule myself, but she may be rather attached to her Avatar. I just hope it's acknowledges she's on hiatus for the time being..Thrush sent word but was forgotten and he had to be unbanned. :S The internet is a nasty place, the gutter of gutters in that bad red light district by the back alley..and then schools support us using it..! No wonder we've got internet addiction problems today.

I've been absent due to the new MTG release. I was busy winning tournaments. I now have a legacy tournament each Saturday until the end of March. But I can probably make most Sundays now.

I hope I'm not kicking a dead horse or anything here, but I'd like to blame retarded/shallow teenagers for also screwing up society/marriage in general. I was sitting in English class today, writing my essay. This girl that sits next to me was discussing/ranting with her friend about how she and her boyfriend are gonna get married and have a kid before her boyfriend goes off to be in the army or whatever. She went into great detail about how she believes she has all the costs of everything taken care of and all that. She mentioned having to get a 'job' [the words 'career' or 'vocation' never came up.] To me, her plan sounded a lot like 'just barely getting by in life' which doesn't seem stable enough to raise a family. Really, I'd love to commend her for taking the time to plan some of it out in her head, but the catch is? SHES 16. Damn. Your brain's not done developing AT ALL. Someone you like at 16's gonna be a different person in another 10 years. Wonderful setup for problems in a marriage, which usually leads to a divorce. And, like X said, there's a good chance the kids could be doing the same exact thing their parents did. Wonderful vicious circle, people, well done. [/endrant] [[Wow you people post fast. Or maybe I take too long to post.]]

Just a long post. The girl is stupid or relies on MTV *old enough to remember when it actually featured music* to tell her how to live her life. It's not so much kicking a dead horse as supporting the Bad Behavior theory. Even that girl couldn't be stupid enough to think getting knocked up at 16 is good.

No, I do believe she is. There's too many stupid teenagers in my school. Obviously practicing safe sex or even getting an abortion at some point very early on was out of the question to those 14 or so pregnant girls in my 3500-person high school. I'd like to bet half of them did it on purpose.
