I shall have to get in touch with Dan (my local store owner) and beat the hell out of him unless he lets me read the codex.

Seriously, though, I'm looking forward to this. This might be the kick in the a** that I needed to really build my army.
Only official GW stores get a black box each month.

Well, piss. Nevermind, then.

I guess, in the mean time, I can start planning the conversions I'm going to have to do. Making Creed/Kell, Chenkov, and Al'Rahim out of Catachan bitz.

Al'rahem comes with a power sword, plasma pistol and dust goggles (which in previous editions counted as a trademark item). So long as you keep the wargear consistent you shouldn't have any trouble making a suitable stand in model.

Chenkov comes with a power sword, bolt pistol and carapace armour if I remember correctly.

edit.

Chekov comes with carapace armour in the new codex.

I didn't actually see this bit though, but my friend said that he read the Al'rahmen's power sword causes instant death with any hit.

That's what is said by the people who peeked into the codex. It could very well be so, a lot of characters are getting a boost. Colonel Iron Hand Straken has a power fist that strikes at his I value plus a healthy 3+ armour save for being more bionic than man.

Aye, and plasma pistol and shotty.
That Commander Pask looks quite fun.
+1 Armour pen, and Bs 4, abit like that Space Marine bloke.

Only Pask hasn't got a chance to bail out after his tank is destroyed.

Pask on Vanquisher = bane of land raiders smile
Sly Marbo = bane of ethereals and similar rear area supporters
Sgt. with h.bolter = just plain badassness smile
Al'Rahem = character killer (unless eternal warrior that is)
Chenkov with standard = immovable guard
I feel like fielding Telion just to pick those troublesome specials out... (Save Pask who's in tank of course_)

Van Evok we dont really care for your counter guard banter. Here is the Mat assessment. You will field Telion to try and take out the Guard special characters. What will then happen is you will be head hunting special while your army dies around you.

I am not anti-guard smile dont take my banters too seriously smile
as I know from experience half the rumors will be false anyway
of course some are more probable - e.g. ap3 hellguns, which anyway I find quite balanced by the supposed price of the stormtroopers.
Also I am not worlds greatest tactician anyway and love my marines doing heroic last stands... terminators seem to excel at it being usually the last to die or even surviving lost game.
And I admire the courage needed to be guard player fielding guys with lasguns and flak armor as your main troops. Sure tanks help, so heavy and special weapons, but common guardsman is amongst weakest individuals of 40k universe. Guard really needed boost against kill points, so I think merging squads are fine.

I thought 16 points per model. sweatdrop Wow, if 18 is true then they might be a bit too expensive for their own good.

18's what I heard, 16 could also be the true pointcost, but 16 fo sound a bit more trustworthy.

Edit: Just called my store and asked them since they have the codex in, and it's 16 as you said, my bad.
