She is a wierd one- and I am proud of her. She turns 13 this year, and yeah . . . she is growing up at a rather rapid pace. Still, she is a big pride for me. I'm trying to get her in here but hard to say. She isn't online all that much . . . yet.

Fate: ___ has my attention, and I am enjoying hte show regardless of where in the timeline it is yet.

I see.

I'm glad you're enjoying it. Type-Moon has made some other anime. I can look up their titles if you want.

And I presume you are not? If so, I'm sorry you'll have to be lonely for a bit.

No, I am in Punxsutawney, she is in Vegas. She'll come home on thursday . . . and I admit, she is missed.

Thanks for the links, I will check them out in a bit. Right now I am just spinning my wheels. Strange, I thought it would be nice to have the free time- and all I do is miss her.

I put her happiness over my own, and even when I mildly regret doing so I am glad she is pleased. she is spoiled . . . but I blame her for the "rotten" part of spoiled rotten. wink

Such is a crucial part of the definition of love.

I've actually had multiple conversations with my wife about the nature of love. American society is poisoned to accept the Disney version of love in which you meet the one person for you, and a choir of angels will sing and you will be happy happy joy joy the remainder of your life. No. Love is complicated, and what is worse is that expecting one person to be everything you will ever need in life is not fair and leads you to be disappointed.

Love is about finding a person you find several if not most of your wants with, and learning to appreciate the remainder where you can. Many relationships are open to include others as secondaries that fill the voids the primary cannot. It's really quite fascinating.

Oh yeah, love is so tragically misunderstood in modern society. At least Disney got 1 part of it right in Frozen (that love is acting in another's best interest).

Of course, English only having 1 word for love has a lot to do w/ the confusion. I much prefer Greek's 4 words for love (agape, storge, phileo, and eros), each with a clear denotation.

Let me know when you finish F/SN, so I can ask if you understood a particular story element (it's spoiler specific to F/SN, nothing F/Z talked about).

Love styles-
Eros – a passionate physical and emotional love based on aesthetic enjoyment; stereotype of romantic love
Ludus – a love that is played as a game or sport; conquest; may have multiple partners at once
Storge – an affectionate love that slowly develops from friendship, based on similarity (kindred to Philia)
Pragma – love that is driven by the head, not the heart; undemonstrative; pragmatic love with the purpose of achieving a common goal, as in a coalition
Mania – obsessive love; experience great emotional highs and lows; very possessive and often jealous lovers
Agape – selfless altruistic love

or if you prefer . . .

Nonlove "refers simply to the absence of all three components of love. Nonlove characterizes the large majority of our personal relationships, which are simply casual interactions."
Liking/friendship is "used here in a nontrivial sense. Rather, it refers to the set of feelings one experiences in relationships that can truly be characterized as friendship. One feels closeness, bondedness, and warmth toward the other, without feelings of intense passion or long-term commitment."
Infatuated love: "infatuation results from the experiencing of passionate arousal in the absence of intimacy and decision/commitment...like Tennov's limerance." Romantic relationships often start out as infatuated love and become romantic love as intimacy develops over time. Without developing intimacy or commitment, infatuated love may disappear suddenly.
Empty love is characterized by commitment without intimacy or passion. A stronger love may deteriorate into empty love. In an arranged marriage, the spouses' relationship may begin as empty love and develop into another form, indicating "how empty love need not be the terminal state of a long-term relationship...[but] the beginning rather than the end."
Romantic love "derives from a combination of the intimate and passionate components of love...romantic lovers are not only drawn physically to each other but are also bonded emotionally" - bonded both intimately and passionately, but without sustaining commitment.
Companionate love is an intimate, non-passionate type of love that is stronger than friendship because of the element of long-term commitment. "This type of love is observed in long-term marriages where passion is no longer present" but where a deep affection and commitment remain. The love ideally shared between family members is a form of companionate love, as is the love between close friends who have a platonic but strong friendship.
Fatuous love can be exemplified by a whirlwind courtship and marriage - "fatuous in the sense that a commitment is made on the basis of passion without the stabilizing influence of intimate involvement."
Consummate love is the complete form of love, representing an ideal relationship which people strive towards. Of the seven varieties of love, consummate love is theorized to be that love associated with the “perfect couple.” According to Sternberg, these couples will continue to have great sex fifteen years or more into the relationship, they cannot imagine themselves happier over the long-term with anyone else, they overcome their few difficulties gracefully, and each delight in the relationship with one other. However, Sternberg cautions that maintaining a consummate love may be even harder than achieving it. He stresses the importance of translating the components of love into action. "Without expression," he warns, "even the greatest of loves can die." Thus, consummate love may not be permanent. If passion is lost over time, it may change into companionate love.

Apparently today (yesterday, by now) is the 30th anniversary of the entire Transformers IP.

~

I see Ludus and Pragma as false, not really love.
I draw a distinction between storge and phileo in that stroge is familial love and phileo is friendship, but that could be seen as splitting hairs.
I'm not sure what to say about Mania, though...

I do agree w/ the splitting of love into 3 vectors, and that's a great note at the end in that love is only love when expressed or acted upon (not "act on" in the sense you might immediately think of).

The first section was about different forms of love . . . whereas the latter is from something I truly adore, the triangular theory of love. It allows for parallel loves/lovers without guilt. Loving a person does not mean you cannot love others- now what is done with that is a whole new can of trouble. Still, one should not be guilty or remorseful of something like love.

Love should not be something you have to hide.
