"Yeah," Maia smiled. "You could say I fell in love with it. I'm from a greener part of Oregon, but I've never seen anything so beautiful as this," she looked around, then smiled at Miwil.
When they reached the pond, Maia was glad for the elf's warning. She'd nearly leaned in close. She noticed the singing ladies, and paused. Sirens? She ignored them, looking inside to a mer-imp.

The imp wiggled its webbed fingers and stuck its tongue out, bubbles rising from the water. It was almost definitely blowing a raspberry.
Toby noticed out in the water a rising head on a long stalk. He excitedly jabbed Maia and pointed. "Look, we found Nessie!"
Miwil laughed. "She's Little Nessie. They only get as big as their environment will let them, though." Big enough to fight off imps who sometimes took to land anyway and to hunt the fish for sure. This pond had to be incredibly deep.
"You placed her before I came, didn't you?" Dari asked Toby.
Toby nodded. "Mm-hm. She was just a little thing then. The other lakes weren't deep enough for her to live comfortably."

Maia was grinning delightedly. Rude gesture or not, the imp was funny! She looked up when Toby poked her. Nessie? She spotted it. She beamed. "It is Nessie!" She listened to Dari and Toby, her smile brightening. "You brought her here?" She asked. A baby nessie! "Is she friendly?"

Toby nodded. She had been a difficult relocation.
"Sometimes," Miwil said, "It depends on the day. Come on!"
She picked her way around the lake and the Nessie's head dipped under. Not to be dismayed, Miwil picked up an edible root from the side of the pond and held it out into the water and wiggled it.
A big shadow came near and the Nessie's head popped up again. Her eyes were black and pitch but she looked friendly enough with her freckled back. Miwil reached up and stroked her rubbery head. "Go on."

Maia was thrilled when nessie reappeared, and was rather surprised by the invitation to pet her. She reached out and stroked her head. "Hi," she greeted it with a smile. She looked to Toby after a moment. This was wonderful, and look, they didn't have to play a video game to find Nessie!

Toby smiled, and Dari sidled up to take the root from Miwil while the creature munched it. He reached out to touch her head as well and the great beast simply continued chewing.
"Some day she isn't really up for attention," Miwil admitted, "I still come to visit her, though."

Maia finished petting and took a step back to admire the creature. "Seems like you've made friends," she observed, smiling at Miwi. She reached for Toby's hand.
"This is amazing," she said, smiling at him.

"This is your job now," Toby said, taking Maia's hand with a grin and bumping her with his hip.
Dari pet the creature a while and then just let the root go. The beast continued eating it at the surface for a few moments more and then dropped back down into the water. Her sideways eyelids were visible for a fraction of a second before she disappeared and became shadow again.
"What else do you want to see?" Miwil asked, brushing the dirt and water from her hands, "I mean, one species specifically or... anything?"

And what a job it was. She beamed at Toby. "Yeah," she said, "I have the best job in the world." And she got to work with the people she loved most!
She looked at Miwi. "I want to see everything," She said, eyes wide. "I've never met other fae, or seen creatures like this, it's amazing."

"Alright, well! Hello. I'm fae too. Elf or Erl or Faerie, whatever you want to call us," Miwil said with a little laugh before shaking Maia's hand. "Come on! There's a lot to see. We just want to be back by civilization before it gets too dark."

After an exhausting day of seeing all there was to see and visiting friends the boys only saw a few times a year, the trio returned to the suite. Lori did not return until two hours after, and he looked exhausted.
Still babyfaced. Just like an exhausted baby.

Maia wandered over to Lori and offered him a hug. "You should get some rest," she said. He looked absolutely exhausted, poor guy. She pointed to his bedroom. "I'll make coffee, if you'd like," but it'd be better if he slept, wouldn't It? What was the plan for tomorrow?

Lori allowed the hug to happen and even gave Maia a little pat on the back, but this would be one of those times he just wanted to disappear with his dog or boyfriend. Neither were here right now.
"How'd it go?" Toby asked.
"Uh! Alright! I got a little headway, I think. Apparently enchanting people isn't possible. Or common. I mean, not enchanting in the way we're looking for enchanting. We'd have better luck with someone enchanting an object. I may have found a rath to check out too, but I have no idea how to sort of go about... asking or bribing or whatever it's going to take."

"Like a necklace?" Maia asked. "The kelpie we met had a necklace." But that was something they appeared with, and it was more an disguised item rather than an enchantment. "We'll figure it out." Maybe old fashioned friendliness would get them somewhere.

"Kelpies appear with necklaces, just like selkies are born with pelts. That's no enchanting, but that's sort of the effect we're going for. Apparently jewelry as a whole doesn't work? We'll need some kind of crystal or gem or something, and then that can be put in jewelry and what have you. First I need to see if I can find this woman, if she actually exists at all." He sighed and fell down onto the couch. rubbing his face.
"Saw my parents for the first time in decades. Told them all about my lovely girlfriend and my continuance of Elfin culture by definitely not trouncing about in gay bars and celebrating Christmas."

A gem. Hm. They could buy him a ring? Necklaces with jewels were too feminine, it'd be awkward for Dari--and if not for him, for others. "Toby and I could go shopping. Is there a specific kind of gem?" She hoped Lori would be able to find something; if anyone could, It was him.
"I'm sure Luca will be amused," she said. "Are you going to call him?"
