"Old?" Sid said, eyeing the man. "Aw, c'mon, he can't be more than..." He trailed off awkwardly as the afforementioned old guy joined them. He nodded along to what Marshall said as though he had some idea of how the internet worked.
"And they don't get cable or satellite," he added, as if this was a horrible, unimaginable thing. "So, yeah, no surprise really. You wouldn't believe the collection of movies. It almost makes up for it. Almost."

Seth's attention was immediately drawn towards Marshall at being called 'old', a very discontent frown dominating his face. He wanted to tell him off for that, but he probably shouldn't...
"I am not old." Seth grumbled anyway, wanting to make that fact adamantly clear. "I'm only 36. Heck, I'm not even married yet." He seemed quite bothered as Sid mentioned there was no cable TV.
"No cable? Well, bugger that. What kind of 'island resort' is this anyway?" He pouted. The more he heard, the more he wanted to leave. He was now more determined than ever to call up that doctor guy that evening and ask about the results of the tests they had done on the "wares" he had brought over to sell.
"Movies... I'm not so interested in those. Is there anything fun here at all?" Seth queried. "For a multimillion dollar genetic research corporation that has it's own holiday island resort, it's pretty shonky if I do say so myself."

"Um...Well...Uh..." well, THIS was certaintly a better thing to wake you up than Coffee. Marshall gave a "I don't know what to do" glance over at Sid. This was not good. Marshall had barely been on the island for two weeks, so explaining it already, well...
I'd just look silly!!
"Thats...Um...Kind of because...Y'know...Its...Not really a resort..."

"He's right, you know," Sid said gravely.
A moment passed as he considered what his best course of action was. Once decided, he slapped Marshall on the back. "But I'm terrible with words and, now that I think about it, I may have left the water running back at my place." He took a step to one side, still talking. "It's been bugging me ever since I left, so, y'know, I better just run and go make sure it's not... or is, if it is. I'm pretty sure it is. Damn stupid of me, really."
He gestured at Marshall and kept slowly inching towards the door. "My man here, he'll explain things until I get back- and I'll be right back."

"It's not a resort? I knew that - the food and the extras are lousy." He mused.
He briefly wondered if he was going to be told the same story that the frog-man had told him earlier.
"Nah, I'm going to leave soon." Seth nodded. "I'm just here for another day or so, then I'm off. I'm just waiting on the results of a lab experiment from a doctor here, then I'm going to be on my way."

Perhaps it was the fact that Marshall had not slept in almost 24 hours. Perhaps it was because Marshall just flat-out sucked under pressure. But regardless the reason he was NOT going to let Sid run out and leave him to do the dirty work. He reached out and grabbed Sid by the back of his red jacket. "I'm sure the labs will GLADLY pay for your water bill, Sid." Marshall said with a glare.
Not happy when sleepy, what can I say?
"Um...Look...I'm not sure how to tell you, but...You're...Probably not going to leave this place any time soon."

"But the floors!" Sid protested, pointing at the door. "I'm telling you, man, water damage is nasty."
The words were barely out of his mouth before he realized it was hopeless. It wasn't just because that was a lame excuse, but because if worse came to worst he wouldn't be able to make it out the door before Marshall caught him anyway. Defeated, he turned back to face Seth.
"Kid's right," he sighed. "But really it's more like you're never gonna leave, get it? It's like, even before you see all the animal people running around, you're stuck here."

"Phh," Seth scoffed. "I'm leaving tomorrow..."
"Animal people? There's more of them?" He blinked. "This is the same story the frog-guy told me when I met him. The labs are experimenting on him, they're turning him into a giant frog." He shook his head. "Pretty messed up if you ask me..."
"They're not doing that to me though, no. They would have mentioned if if they were, I'm sure of it." He grinned. "No, I'm just here for another day or so, then I'm gone."

Marshall rubbed the back of his neck. This guy was pretty thick, or in denial some thing fierce. Perhaps a combination of the two. Either way Marshall knew this guy wasn't going to be as accepting as he was about it.
"Okay, you think they told US about it?" Marshall said, rolling up his sleeve, showing where his bandage from the needle was, "Of course not. You think we'd willingly come here? I was here for a two week vacation."
Marshall was staying surprisingly calm, all be it a bit snippy.

Sid touched his free hand to his chest. The left was still, as always, on the cane. The longer he stood, the more he had to rely on it, which wasn't killing his inclination to try and be gentle about it."Me, I was here for physical therapy and... Well, that was probably only half of it, but nevermind all that, everybody gets a different story, seems like."
He grinned, looking perhaps just a little crazed for the edge of hysteria that crept in. The truth, whenever it came up, never failed to make him feel damnably sober. "But you know what the real kicker is? We're all gonna end up animal people, man. You, me, everybody."

The balding man glanced over at Marshall's needlestick injury, looking paticularly bothered as he noticed it.
"They're experimenting on you too? But... you're just a kid! That's not right..." He ran a hand through his hair, looking more awkward and less confident than before. "I seriously doubt they're trying it on me though." He quickly responded. "They wouldn't want to either - I'd sock them a new one. I don't have a pinprick anywhere on my person. I'd know it if I was injected up with a needle - I hate the bloody things. But damn... they're experimenting on you too? That's just not right!"
When Sid mentioned that they were all going to become animal people, Seth looked like he wanted to sit down. "All of us are going to be animal people like the frog-guy? No..." He shook his head, backing up slightly. "No way in hell."
He absolutely refused to believe it. Nobody had mentioned a thing about being experimented on, not anywhere. Not when he was considering the delivery idea, not when he was in transit, and the Dr Duvert guy had never mentioned it. He had been so friendly and trusting, their business transaction had gone through smoothly.
Right?
He had flown all this way to deliver a package, nothing more.
"So they lied to you both to get you here..?" Seth buried his face in his hands and thought long and hard. "But I... I just came to deliver stuff, that's all!"
He stopped abruptly, staring at them both almost in a pleading manner.
"This is a joke, isn't it. Please, tell me it's all one hilarious joke."

I'm 21 for cryin' out loud... Marshall thought with a roll of his eyes, wishing that just ONCE people would not mistake him for a teenager. Marshall then looked at Seth. The man was a lot older than him, and actually looked about Sid's age...But that didn't change the fact that he was scared.
"I...I really wish it was..." Marshall said, rolling his sleeve down with an almost defeated look on his face.

Sid threw his... hand up. Damn cane. "Believe whatever you want, man. I'm not gonna argue with you over what's gonna happen. It's ******** up, but what're you gonna do about it? And before you say escape, they tell me it's not possible." He uttered a terse laugh. "But you're welcome to test that, too. It'll give ya something to do without that internet."
He looked to Marshall, his appetite nice and dead after all that. "I'm goin' now, okay? So I'll see ya around, both of you, sooner or later." He was a few yards closer to the door before he remembered one more piece of information he had to cough up.
"Bye! Name's Sid, by the way!" He didn't look back as he said it, nor did he stop walking, but he at least waved before he disappeared through the door.

Seth raised a hand momentarily, motioning a goodbye gesture with it as he watched Sid depart. "My name's Seth. See ya later, Sid." He called out to him. "Nice meeting you, by the way."
He returned his attention back towards Marshall, still looking rather unhappy. "So, you're stuck here too, eh?" He frowned. "Hasn't anybody thought to fight back against the guys who put them here? To rise up in a group and throw up a revolution or something? Just how many people are there here, being experimented on exactly?"
He knew he was probably being nosey now, but... he needed answers.
"Boy do I need to have some choice words with that doctor guy..." He muttered to himself. He wanted to leave, and talk with him right now. "Hey uh.... I don't know your name. Do you know how to get in contact with Dr Duvert?"

Marshall sighed as Sid left, his fatigue slowly running him down. He rubbed the back of his neck, feeling like he was going to be sick. But he manage to hide this. This guy, despite being perhaps double his age, needed help.
"My name's Marshall...And...I'm not really sure how many there are, really...And I'm not sure if any one has ever rebelled against them..." Marshall said, looking down at the floor. Making eye contact was just too damn hard.
"Um...Well, at your duplex there's this little keypad thing...If you press 0 on it, I think you get in contact with the lab...I think." Marshall said, making it painfully obvious that he wasn't sure what he was talking about.
"Well...I'm...Gonna be heading off myself...I'm at Duplex 59, in case you were wondering." the tired young man said, forgetting about his lunch as he followed Sid's lead. It felt cruel to Marshall, leaving Seth with all this information.
...But there's nothing I can do.
