I don't trust big jewelry chains, since they often get their diamonds through questionable means (debeers influences wars in africa to artifically inflate the cost of diamonds). Plus, they usually have horribly overpriced gemstones.
Also, big chains don't work because I need to find something that my cheap boyfriend can afford -_-

I believe everybody usually gets their diamonds from debeers. They have a strangle hold on the diamond market, which is why they are located in Europe, because they are considered a monopoly.
Or this may just be Malee falsely remembering her senior economic class... It was 5 years ago. xd
What about not getting a diamond? There are tons of other stones out there other then diamonds.

I did save a picture, but it's still kinda sad, you know? The ring I wanted was like 185$ last I looked and now it's gonna cost a hell of a lot more to get it custom made. gonk heart

Miri: I understand the distance thing ^^;; I live in CA and my bf lives in Minesotta ^^;;
I got two dozen roses last week from the Master students at my college (my friend did as well).. my friend and I are the support people for the program and they know that if it wasnt for us, things would be a lot more hectic for them ^^;;

Well, chain jewelers often buy poor-quality minerals and lazer out the imperfections, leaving you with a weak, easily shatterable gemstone. They also often dye the stones to make the color better, and the dye fades over time.

But you also run the risk with smaller stores. Poor quality and you run the risk of the setting being bad.
Which is why if you want high quality jewelry, you have to be willing to pay a higher price. Low priced items are not high quality, its just the risk you run.
