“Today’s the day!” The young girl’s brown gaze was sparked with excitement. It was the girl’s second day for adventure. She grabbed the poke ball which contained her very first captured pokemon. It was Akito, the Hoothoot who had put up quite a difficult fight upon capture. Her own first pokemon and lovable partner was a Poochyena named Kage. Just last night, she had brought both to the nearest pokemon center to be healed, and they were at full health. Turning to her pokemon, she then smiled brightly. “Today is the day where we will catch our second pokemon!” she exclaimed, energetically. The pair raced down the stairs, and to the bright outdoors. The sun was already shining, and there was a blazing heat that radiated into the air.
Kisumi mounted her Aqua bike, the blue and black colors shimmering against the sun’s rays. She took off quickly, heading down the road. Kage raced after her, easily able to keep pace with the bike. Everything was going smoothly, at least until they were passing a road that was surrounded by trees on either side. The girl had paused, taking her TADS (Team Aqua Dual Screen) to check on any events that were going on, when a blue and white blur snatched it right out of her hands. She let out a cry of surprise, and scanned the trees over quickly. There in the farthest tree, was a Pachirisu! In its jaws, was her TADS! Before she could do anything, the pokemon took off into the trees, leaping from tree to tree easily and gracefully.
Scooping up Kage and letting him sit safely in her backpack, she then pedaled as fast as she could to chase after this pokemon!
The squirrel glanced back over his shoulder, smirking slightly to himself. Today had been the start of another boring day, at least until he had spotted the trainer and her pokemon. So his mischievous nature had taken over, and he decided to have a little fun. If he took something of hers, she would most likely follow after him. Not far away, there was a maze filled with pokemon. If she survived until the end, then he would battle her in order to give her a chance to retrieve her shiny object. If she didn’t, well he had a new toy to keep. Finally he knew the maze was close, so he leapt to the ground and landed in front of the entrance to it.
“Pachi..pa…ri…suuu! (I’ll see you at the end of the maze!)” he said, flashing an innocent look before motioning with his tail to the maze. With that said, he leapt directly in and darted away.
Kisumi couldn’t believe her luck. Her shape shifter blood allowed her to understand exactly what the Pachirisu had said, even enough to notice the smug look on his face. “This is just great,” she muttered to Kage.
“Pooch…ye…na (This is the adventure we were looking for today!)” he barked excitedly.
Kisumi couldn’t help but grin in return. “Yeah, you are right. Okay, we’ll beat this maze.” Leaving her bike by a tree, she then approached the entrance and stopped for a second. “Alright Kage, here we go!”
The maze itself was made completely of bushes. The walls were around ten feet tall, and completely blocked all surroundings but the sky. They had entered the easiest one, because it was the smallest. In this area were three mazes, but this was the smallest and easiest one. All they had to do was defeat two pokemon, and they would end up at the end. Kage leapt forward, his nose to the ground trying to follow the Pachirisu’s scent in order to get to the exit faster. He raced forward, paws barely touching the ground as he could see that the scent was growing stronger.
Kisumi struggled to keep up, her breaths coming in short gasps. “Wait, Kage!” she called anxiously.
The Poochyena paused, turning to look at her, shocked that she couldn’t keep up. “Poo..ch…ye..(Hurry, hurry!)” he barked impatiently. “…ye…naaa…(We’ll lose the scent.)”
Just as the scent got stronger, a pokemon leapt squarely into their path. The bird like pokemon was a Starly!
“Star….ly…starrr…(I will be your first opponent!)” the bird chirped cockily.
“Poo..ch…y..ena…(Fine by me!)" the Poochyena snarled back, stepping forward.
The bird started the first attack, disappearing and reappearing in front of the dog pokemon, slamming its entire body into his foe!
Kage staggered backwards, taking some damage, but growled fiercely. His eyes narrowed in concentration, as he darted forward grabbing onto one of the Starly’s wings and biting viciously onto it before throwing him backwards.
The bird wasn’t fazed by the throw backwards, as he simply flapped his wings to avoid colliding with any nearby objects. Instead he winced because of the pain that was spreading every time he flapped his wing. Landing, he then tucked his injured wing in for a second, trying to catch his breath. After taking a couple deep breaths, he ignored the pain and soared upward into the sky.
The Poochyena growled angrily. He glanced up into the sky, but couldn’t see anything because the sun was shining too brightly. Zigzagging around on the ground anxiously, he hoped that by moving around, it would be harder for the bird to pinpoint him.
The Starly chirped its amusement at the dog pokemon’s pathetic way to try and avoid getting hit. Flying high up into the sky, the sun seemed to help energize the bird pokemon. He tucked in his wings, and then dove down into a direct tackle attack aiming at the Poochyena. The bird was going with gravity, and it added to the attack making the strength nearly double. The Poochyena wouldn’t stand a chance. …and it was a direct hit! The bird slammed directly into the dog’s back, sending him flying into the air and landing with a loud thud onto the dirt. Cawing his triumph, the bird glanced at his opponent. There was no way he would be able to continue fighting.
Kage lay sprawled in the dirt, his muzzle stained slightly with blood. The attack had been a harsh one, but he couldn’t lose. That stupid squirrel had Kisumi’s TADS! There was still another opponent, and he couldn’t afford to lose here! Sheer will power was driving him now, as he staggered upright to his paws. Gritting his teeth, he snarled angrily. “YENA! (I’m not through yet!)” Without a second thought, he threw back his head and let out a deep throated howl! As he let the howl loose, he could feel some of his strength returning.
The howl sent a chill down the bird pokemon’s back. He was so surprised, that he just stood there frozen. If there was any chance to attack, now was the time!
The Poochyena snarled, finished with his howl. Without a moment to lose, he charged forward latching himself onto the bird’s other wing and crunching down! Releasing it, he grabbed the other wing crushing down and then leaping into the air and slamming the pokemon into the ground, his teeth still gripped on the wing. Leaping off, he continued to growl loudly while taking heavy, deep breaths and panting loudly. If the bird was not finished with this attack, then he wouldn’t last much longer.
The bird lay there, surprised that he had been defeated. Both his wings felt impossible to lift, and he could feel the pain spreading through them. Standing, he tucked both his wings against his side, face visible of all the pain. “Sta…rly…(I announce defeat.)” the bird chirped, reluctantly. “St…ar…ly…ar…ly…(You were a good opponent. When you come to the next fork in the road, go left. It will take you one step closer to your goal.)” The bird settled against the dirt, bowing his head in a typical defeated gesture.
Kisumi rushed up to Kage, scooping him up in her arms. She gently stroked his head, worry etched into her face. “You did an amazing job. It was a very good battle. You should rest now.” In her left hand, she held his poke ball.
“Pooch! (No, I can’t.)” he protested feebly. “..ye…na! (We still have to continue. I’m fine!)”
Kisumi shook her head, but she couldn’t force him into his poke ball. “Alright, alright. I have a potion somewhere,” she muttered, rummaging around in her backpack. “Ah, here it is!” Applying it to her Poochyena, the dog pokemon would feel the effects right away.
“Yena! (Much better!)” he yelped happily. The energy was pulsing through him once again, and he raced off.
Kisumi laughed, before running after him. The two were getting deep into the maze now. At last, they were getting to the end. A fork in the road, as the Starly had predicted, was now right in front of them. Kage was about to head towards the left without a second thought, but Kisumi stopped him.
“What if it’s a trap?” she asked, weary.
“Yena..poo…chy..(Defeated pokemon, and most pokemon in general have no reason to lie, unlike humans.)” he growled before heading left.
The dog led the way, his ears flickering slightly. The Starly had been right of course. There, not too far away was the exit, and visible outside was the Pachirisu, who was absentmindedly, just sunbathing. However before they could leave the maze, there was yet another pokemon to face.
“We’ll save your energy for the battle with the Pachirisu, okay Kage? Let’s allow Akito to face this one.” Kisumi pulled out the Hoothoot’s poke ball, tossing it into the air. “Akito, I choose you!”
There was a huge red flash of light, and the owl pokemon was seen hovering in the air. “Hoo! (Who is my opponent?)” the owl hooted. His gaze flickered across the area before spotting the other pokemon. The Hoothoot let out a laugh, upon seeing exactly what his opponent was. “Hoot..hooo (I’m required to fight a worm?!)” Akito remarked, amused. “Hoot!(Come now, let me see my real opponent!)”
The Caterpie had heard about the Poochyena, and thought he would be able to fight him, but there had been no word of an owl! The worm pokemon cowered, glancing at the Pachirisu! “Cattter…pieee!(I can’t do it!)” he yelled frantically to the Pachirisu. “piee…ca…ter…(I’ll be killed and then eaten!)” The poor Caterpie squirmed away frantically, disappearing into the bushes.
“Okay…well, looks like you are up again, Kage,” Kisumi said, as the Hoothoot settled onto her shoulder. “Well thanks for your assistance anyway, Akito.”
They exited the maze, and were now directly in front of the Pachirisu.
The Pachirisu had looked like he was asleep, but he peeked an eye open. “Pac..hii..ri..suuu (Sure you want to battle me?)" he remarked cockily. The TADS was nowhere in sight, and the squirrel pokemon sat upright, rubbing his eyes sleepily. But when he glared at them, it was clear that he was wide awake.
“Poochyena! (It’s time to return what you stole!)” Kage snarled viciously.
“Pachiii..suuu..(Oh, really? Make me then!)” the Pachirisu remarked snippily. Electricity radiated from his cheeks, as he stood tall. The squirrel pokemon was not one to look threatening, but he was showing that wasn’t weak either.
Kage continued to snarl, before launching into the first attack jaws part to latch onto the squirrel with a vicious bite attack.
The Pachirisu wasn’t going to just simply stand there. He stood there for a second, before disappearing in a flash. Instead of waiting for his turn to attack, he launched into an immediate quick attack to counter against the bite. Moving quickly from side to side, he then slammed into the Poochyena directly into his chest.
Knocking the wind out of the dog pokemon, Kage still managed to get a bite out of the squirrel’s shoulder since he was so close. Latching on, he then tossed the squirrel into the air.
Instead of just dropping onto the ground, he twisted and turned mid-air in order to land on his four feet. His tail was the one that controlled his landings, and he was used to being in the air, from jumping tree branches.
So far the battle was a fairly intense one, neither side giving an inch!
But the Pachirisu had barely began to show some of his true strength. A huge ball of electricity was suddenly surrounding him, and he let it all loose directly at the Poochyena!
The gray dog like pokemon race to get out of the way, but the electricity still hit him full on! He let out a howl of pain, and was slightly paralyzed. Growling, he was unable to move temporarily, his limbs refusing to follow orders.
The Pachirisu raced once again from side to side, darting circles around the paralyzed pokemon. He circled quickly, his quick attack causing the squirrel to race tight circles around the Poochyena and become a white and blue blur. From all sides, he slammed in and hit the dog several times continuously. Was the battle truly going to be over before it had barely begun?
When the Pachirisu stopped, panting slightly for breath all he saw was a bundle of fur.
The Poochyena had been smart, and curled into a ball, so most of his body had taken the blunt of the blows. It didn't take away the damage, however he could still move. But uncurling, and seeing that it had slightly drained most of the energy from his opponent, he was now ready to charge in with an attack. Even though his speed wasn’t the best, he charged in, jaws parted.
Since the Pachirisu had used most of his stored energy, he could move, but at a slower rate then usual! So he was unable to move quickly enough to dodge this attack.
Instead of biting in one place like usual, he delivered multiple bites, making sure to make them deep, and snarling viciously the entire time! Finally to end it, he got a strong grip on the squirrel's tail, and then tossed him into the air.
The squirrel maneuvered quickly, but since the dog had gripped his tail, he was unable to land on his feet. He hit the ground and lay there stunned.
“Okay, I guess its my turn then.” Kisumi muttered to herself, gazing at the Pachirisu. Pulling out a poke ball, she then tossed it directly at the stunned pokemon.
The red light completely consumed the squirrel, before it disappeared into the poke ball. The ball shook frantically from side to side, as the pokemon fought for his freedom. Several seconds passed, but the ball continued to shake.
Kage tensed, ready to force himself to continue the fight, even though all his energy was gone and he would probably end up fainting. Two battles a day was enough for him.
The ball shook, and shook, and just when it seemed like the pokemon had escaped….the ball’s center turned from red to white!
The group had managed to catch the mischievous Pachirisu!
Kisumi picked up the poke ball, holding it out happily! “We caught ourselves a Pachirisu!” she exclaimed, ecstatic. “But we don’t know where my TADS is…”
Akito, the Hoothoot, had been scanning around the area, when he spotted something shining in a nearby tree. Flapping his wings, he grabbed the object with his claws and dropped it into his trainer’s open hand. It was the TADS!
“Thanks a lot, Akito!” she exclaimed happily. Nothing new appeared on the screen, so she placed it carefully into her pack. Placing the newest pokemon on her belt, she pulled out Akito’s poke ball. “Alright, return.” The red light surrounded the owl pokemon and he vanished into his poke ball. Scooping up Kage and placing him in her pack, the dog curled up and fell asleep.
She headed around the maze, and back towards her bike. Today’s adventure was now over.
