Maybe I can turn Cadians into proper airborne troops with liberal application of lots of kits and bags.

This guy from codex: Catachans. He replaces the army commander. His bionic arm counts as a power fist minus the always strikes last bit. There's also Sly Marbo the one man army who takes up a whole elites slot but is a beast in combat. His background states that Sly was tasked with hunting down Lictors. Icing on the Catachan character cake is a gunnery sergeant named Harker who replaces the veteran sergeant of a veterans squad. He's said to carry a heavy bolter and is Relentless. *cue Predator quotes*

Sly Marbo also has one of the most badass histories in the game, along with a ******** piece of fluff wherein he receives yet another Imperial Cross and his CO just kinda tosses it into a pile with the others as Sly ducks back into Combat. I hope he retains his old ability to disappear and reappear anywhere on the board in his next turn.
Also...Harker is looking to be a badass. I've always had a plan in mind to do a Catachan based army. not necessarily from Catachan, but definitely from a similar Deathworld that has been transformed into a City Fighting force (skill with silence, tracking, moving through thick rubble, close range fighting, etc.). Either way.

Either way. From the look of things the elites slots will be hotly contested when you have things like Sly, revamped Rattlings, that psychic cabal and the new and improved storm troopers. It's a good thing that veteran squads have been moved to the troops section. Best of all you can take as many special characters as you can fit into your army. So if you field two veteran squads one can be led by Harker and the other by a Cadian chap named Lukas Bastonne. You could for example field an army with Iron Hand Straken in one command squad, Creed & Kell in the other, attach Nork Deddog to one squad as a bodyguard, put Sly Marbo in as an elites choice, take two infantry platoons and have their commanders replaced by Chekov and Al'rahem, take two veteran squads and replace their sergeants by Harker and Bastonne, then to top things off you can assign one vehicle the character Knight of Cadia - Commander Pask. That's ten characters in a single army, all done legally. mrgreen Speaking of storm troopers: they are 16 points per model, but for that you get a hellgun with targeter (with AP3), hell pistol, ccw, frags, kraks and deep strike. To top it off you must assign your storm trooper squad a "mission" before the game starts. - Recon: Scout and move through cover. - Airborne deployment: When deep striking they re-roll their scatter upon landing. This can also be used when jumping from a moving Valkyrie at top speed. - Behind enemy lines: Infiltration and the first time they shoot their weapons cause pinning. Even if you save it all game until the last turn. Oh my, I'm rambling now! sweatdrop

Sweet...Jesus...
Ok. It's official. I'm going to pack as many characters into my list as I can...Which means that I'm going to have to convert a lot of stuff to make things work...
Hopefully they don't go the route of the Marines though and say that fielding things Creed&Kell, Bastonne, and Pask require you to have an only Cadian force by painting and all other whatsits. Sure, the Cadians have lots of paint schemes, but I happen to like the Catachans...

I forgot that you can also add the Attilan character to the force as the sergeant for your Rough Rider squad, giving you a whopping 11 characters to annoy your opponent with. xp
I've heard a tidbit that it should be possible to load that tank commander character into a Baneblade or other Imperial Guard super-heavy tank for Apocalypse battles, giving you a BS 4 super-heavy, or a BS 5 Shadowsword. pirate

Mat dont forget the GW now supports using "counts as" characters Quite right, they started doing that in the Space Marine codex, so mashing a guard hero army together shouldn't be too hard. It will be an expensive army, though hopefully worth it.

Awwww... my marines are hurt! For kill points we can see 50 man squad (with comissar attached, undoubtedly) while for objectives 5x 10 man squads. Beats the @$$ from my combat squads rule. Digging out 50 men from a ruin with +2 to cover for "incoming!" is gonna be tedious - scratch it, impossible - unless I assault or employ cover-denying weapons. Stormtroopers seem to be costly but with deepstrike built in and possible reroll for scatter they seem to be true marine killers. And facing up to 9 LR tanks of "put the most damaging type" pattern is gonna hurt - lets face it 180 s5 shots is going to kill any infantry very dead. Even marines dont enjoy taking 60 saves per turn!
