I need to start making money. Tomorrow I'm going to the local antique shop to see if I can't find some sterling silver bowls or utensils to buy and sell for scrap. My friend bought a bowl for $4 at a Goodwill and turned around and got $286 for its weight in silver at a local jewelry shop.
Time for a new kind of silver rush.

I have a friend who can make $1000 in a weekend just by going to garage sales and picking up broken gold jewelry. and selling it at those "cash for gold" shops.
Personally, I'm highly suspicious of this new trend that has many Americans abandoning family heirlooms and precious metals in favor of weak paper currency.

My heirlooms aren't jewelry...
I have a violin that was my Grandmother's, and a Tremoloa that was my great-Grandmother's.... and I will probably end up with some other family musical heirlooms when it's all said and done since I seem to have inherited all of the musical talent of this generation of kids from either side of the family. rolleyes

If people could barter with precious metals like you could in the old days then maybe we wouldn't need to liquidate assets like that into currency that can actually be used by society. I can't wait until the day we start trading on a commercial level again, because it'll mean I can get rid of s**t I never use to acquire more stuff that I will. Besides, by getting rid of useless dust-magnets like gold and silver jewelry, I can invest in something ten thousand times better and more practical than money, precious metals and the stock market combined: guns and ammunition. Eltanin Sadachbia I have a violin that was my Grandmother's, and a Tremoloa that was my great-Grandmother's.... and I will probably end up with some other family musical heirlooms when it's all said and done since I seem to have inherited all of the musical talent of this generation of kids from either side of the family. rolleyes By all means, keep acquiring musical instruments and preserve one of the most important aspects of human culture that we have for a long time to come.

I'm a sucker for old things with a lot of sentimental value.

I dunno, man... guns are valuable, practical, and a great way to keep yourself safe; I'm personally a fan of having a concealed gun for my own protection (if only I had the money to I'd buy one and get a permit for it). but I still don't think it's such a great investment, certainly not better than all of those combined.
I'll say this, guns can't solve every problem. weaponry is important, but it's not the answer to everything. there will always be situations that you can't just muscle your way out of. alot of the time you need to adapt to a new situation by doing something different, unexpected, out of teh ordinary, and just plain more cunning than the same old thing.

Guns are at their most useful if you have ammo to go in them. If not, all you have is an expensive bluff/club combo. Not saying it's a bad idea to have the means to defend yourself, but you should have a little of everything. A little automatic weaponry, a little manual weaponry, a little bartering material, and the wits to use it all at the right time.

Guns are practical, but personal defence is probably focused on too much. A paranoid society in which people are afraid of their neighbours is notably unhealthy. A paranoid society in which people fear their neighbours, and are also heavily armed is another matter entirely. Not to say some people don't have valid reasons for needing to defend themselves, but honestly that's far from everyone. I think a lot of people have guns for really bad reasons, and a lot of people who are also seriously naive in their carrying and use of such a thing. Pulling a gun after a threat of a fist fight is not a reasonable reaction, and s**t like that happens a lot. I'm really not against people being armed, but too many people take that way too lightly.
I just got a couple offers for work, one teaching dance and the other doing some basic carpentry stuff. So it's potentially exciting, because I'm so broke right now and also teaching dance would set me up for many good things. I also just spent the weekend with this girl I met a little while back, and it was really really lovely. So right now I'm pretty happy.

Eltanin Sadachbia mrgreen Glad I could help! xp Kidding... But I did make you smile! emotion_kirakira Which is at least as good IMO... cool Anyways... My computer's processor is fried... now I am going to price all the upgrades for my laptop and see if I can't get a few more years out of it... I am never buying an HP laptop again though. The awesome thing about the case though... It has another bay for a second hard drive, I have room for 4 RAM sticks, and this thing has USBs out the yahoo. Which is awesome because I use them all when I am making beautiful works of scribbles... So, I think by the time I am done with it, the only thing left that will be HP is the LCDed light up HP logo on the top of the case. dramallama On a sad note, I have to sell my piano... it is too big for my house, and if I am ever going to sell this place, I need to get the flooring in... So the piano will be leaving as soon as I can get enough out of it for carpet for my house (Which won't be too expensive, it's a very small house). Lol thanks! Smiling is always a good thing. I have 3 words for advice on computers. Buy a Mac. Sad news is sad... I might have to sell my keyboard but I'm trying my hardest not to. Did you try Craigs list?

Mac? What is this Mac of which you speak? I wasn't aware there was anything relevant besides Microsoft and Linux.

When I am with you, we stay up all night, When you're not here, I can't get to sleep. Praise God for these two insomnias! And the difference between them.

I have so much crap in my inventory, but I don't want to sell it... but if I did, I would probably be that much closer to my dream item... but then if I sold all of it, I wouldn't be able to play with my dream item as much... what to do-what to do gonk .

Macs are only the best media editing computers in existence. Nothing relevant if all you do is play video games and watch porn. Even then, macs are better because they almost never get viruses and can easily run any "windows only" game on a shell. rolleyes Aakosir Oh holy crap. How long has it been since I've logged on!? Foxifyre Lol... Macs are only the best media editing computers in existence. Only because the market for media editing software is there for Macs but not for anything else. Macs use Intel processors, and there's really no difference otherwise in terms of any other components, since, like I said, Mac OS can be obtained in software form. Buying their proprietary hardware is useless because less expensive alternatives can be sought in aftermarket companies. Foxifyre Nothing relevant if all you do is play video games and watch porn. I wonder, can you tell me again, through which company most reputable corporations go for their workstation and network operating systems? Oh that's right, it's Microsoft. Foxifyre Even then, macs are better because they almost never get viruses If this weren't an erroneous piece of information, I'd make the joke that the reason Macs don't get viruses is that nobody gives enough of a damn about Mac to code viruses for their computers. dramallama But in all seriousness, thank god for trojans like Mac Defender for putting Apple enthusiasts in their place. Foxifyre and can easily run any "windows only" game on a shell. rolleyes It's called a 'virtual machine', and Apple isn't the only one with that tech, I'm afraid, so that point is moot as well. My point is, if you're going to give proper computing advice, 'buy a Mac' most certainly isn't it. As a matter of fact, it's nothing more than arrogant, ignorant, and one-sided regarding pieces of advice a person can give. Whether you know (or you think you know) computers better than I is irrelevant because you've given me little reason to take you seriously, based primarily on those three little words. And that's my $0.02 on the matter. Do what you will, that's my contribution today.
