Hoshigaki Hiru rolled 5 20-sided dice: 1, 5, 9, 8, 14 Total: 37 (5-100)

Chakra fundamentals for the academy student, intermediate level.
DC = 9
D20 + int mod

DC = 1 = fail

Hiru just finished learning his "lesson" from his father. Maybe it was a way of trying to forget what had just happened, like he had so many times in the past, but he immediately sat down on his bet and pulled a book out of his bag, he had taken it from the academy. Of course, his head was still ringing from the previous events, so there was no way he was going to understand anything at all for a while...

DC = 5 - 2 = fail

After a few minutes he actually started paying attention to the book he was holding instead of just looking at it. There was no way he was ready to read yet but he was slowly starting to come back to earth. The book had a nice cover with a human body exposing his chakra system. That was as far as he could go for now...colors and shapes. His left ye was still so bruised he could barely see anything...

DC = 9 - 2 = fail

He started focusing for a few secons, but that's when his little pet squirrel jumped out of his bag. At first Hiru was afraid it'd try to jump out the window, but the animal stayed in place for a while. There must have been something about Hiru's current state that would have awakened a feeling of compassion to even the most primitive of creatures. It stared at him for a few seconds, Hiru stared back, away from the book.

DC = 8 - 2 = fail

The little squirrel then suddenly jumped right on the open book. It managed to make Hiru giggle, which was at that moment an astonishing feat. His swollen lip even managed to crack a smile. Hiru picked up a nut from his bag, one of the few it hadn't already eaten, and gave it to the little rodent who started munching away instantly. He picked it up and gently moved it to his bed so he could get back to reading.

DC = 14 - 2 = pass

The little animal's presence had soothed him deeply. It was actually the first time he had felt a friendly presence inside his house and made the ambiance bearable for studying. He started reading the first page, this book was actually about chakra shape and nature manipulation, a general overview of both concepts on which he already had very basic knowledge. Was interesting though.

Hiru flipped on to the next page. The first part was about shape manipulation, stuff about how to mold chakra, give it various shaped. Because he had already been taught the bunshin no jutsu, Hiru already possessed a solid basic understanding of the chapter, which allowed him to easily flip through it to make it faster to the next part, which promised to be more interesting.

DC = 6 - 2 = fail

When he made it to the next part, he kinda realized he had maybe flipped through the first chapter a bit too fast, maybe he had missed a page or something but it kinda made no sense to him. He went back and paid a bit more attention to the pages he had s hastily flipped through just a few seconds ago. He really had missed something there, he'd have to be more careful next time...

DC = 14 - 2 = pass

The next section was about the motion that can be put in any form of chakra. Making it appear inert is one thing, but putting force into it is copletely different and just as essential. Hiru had yet to learn that. His rope escape technqiue gave him a preview of what was using chakra to move objects but there was much more depth to this, which apparently was the subject of another volume.

DC = 13 - 2 = pass

As he flipped to the next chapter, Hiru was trying to think of ways to use this kind of ability in more concrete circumstances. One of the obvious applications would be a form of chakra force explosion, but that had never really been his style, he wanted to learn to protect people, and himself. Maybe something else could help him, farther along in his lectures.

DC = 19 - 2 = pass

The next chapter was much more interesting, it talked about the chakra's ability to influence the user's body and general function. This ability could therefore not only be used outwards but also inwards. Some ninjas could apparently significantly increased strength or stamina because of those techniques. Obviously, Hiru's curiosity had been peaked and he desperately wanted to learn more

Hiru started getting distracted again, the little squirrel, for whom he had yet to find a name, was heading for the door and started scratching it, as though it wanted to explore the house. Hiru dropped the book and ran to the door, hoping his father would not have heard the noise. The poor thing wouldn't last 5 seconds if his father knew it was in there. He took his pet and placed it back on the bed.

DC = 8-2 = fail

He tried to get back to his book, but just as he did his mind started wandering off once more. THere was something about the thick mist outside that always made Hiru think. He liked the fog, you could always disappear in it and barely anyone could find you if it was thick enough. Hiru snapped out of it after a few moments and tried to go back to his reading.

DC = 11-2 = pass

The next chapter was about nature amnipulation in chakra. It appeared every chakra has a particular nature, or two for some people. Hiru read the part about identifying finding of what nature your chakra is. It was sort of useless to him though, he knew that everyone in his clan had a very strong affinity to water and to nothing else. He found it interesting nevertheless, but hoped there would be more than that.

DC = 6-2 = fail

Hiru flipped the pages to find out more about nature manipulation. He had managed to do it by accident earlier that day while he was trying to mould chakra. He wondered how that could be, maybe it was because of his very strong affinity to the element, which made it almost instantly revert to a watery form as it manifested. Still, as he was thinking about this he wasn't training at all...

DC = 9 = fail

Hiru would have liked to keep going but he started dosing off a bit on his bed. It had been a very long day for him and the end was far more exhausting than whatever training he could have done before. It took him a few seconds to realize he was losing his focus and he got straight back up. He grabbed his book and used every effort to keep his eyes on the pages.
