I'd say don't date with people in your own band, because if anything happens, the entire band knows, band becomes awkward, and in some cases, people might even quit. My ex is in band, and I'm just glad that we were able to stay friends. I got lucky, and don't have the awkward problem, but still, my friend and his girlfriend were in band, and he was an a** to her, so she quit. And she could have easily been flute section leader, too.

My director tells us band is a family I always ask if people going out is considered incest. xd I'm in the process of re-kindling a Band-lationship.

We have several of those! It seems like every organization is like that. When I was on a local swim team, it was the same story. In our band and in my group of friends my best friend who's in the pit is trying to go out w/ a girl who plays flute who's going out w/ a guy who, up til this yr, played baritone. I have a crush on a fellow trumpet player, but he has a crush on another one of my best friends who also plays flute. I'm pretty sure at least one of the 12 guys I hang put w/ and r in band has a crush on me. In fact just about all my friends at school are in band and there's always something along those lines going on (crush- and dating-wise, nothing more, thank goodness). And that's just my group of friends who r freshmen!

We had quite a few people in band dating each other last year. Most of them graduated in the spring, so, unless new relationships pop up, we'll have to go back to picking on freshmen.

we have tons. It's a very common thing. And since most of them are good after the break-ups, we don't loose kids that way. I had a band-lationship, till he turned into an a**. but he's not dating another band kid, so there's no issue during rehearsals. Band-lationships are so common at my school that the director is constantly joking with us about all the flirting we're doing. "ok guys, hold off the flirting for a couple of minutes and listen up."

They're freaking everywhere in marchign band! I myself was/am (don't ask) in one. Last year we had many embarassing moments. Once we were holding hands and watching a competition and we didn't know that my band director was sitting behind us. When they announced that we had gotten into semi-finals we hugged and kissed and Mr. Libby bent down real close and yelled "NO PDAS IN UNIFORM!" really loud so everyone could hear. . . *cough* And um, many others.
But it just makes so much sense because they're like the only people you see for the whole marching band season. It's just easier.

Sinsa (I''m new here btw) Most bands have at least 1 pair of kids who are in a relationship, in our band we call it a "Band-lationship". Now, we had one band-lationship in our highschool band last year, now, at retreat s can''t go into guys cabins and guys can''t go into s cabins (god only knows what happend to cause that). While I wasn''t in highschool when this happend I was in jazz band with these 2 kids and they really did go at it (silly altos). Since then these 2 have gone diffrent ways (the chick quit band) and up till now there hasnt been a "Band-lationship". Now I am going out with the bass trombone and we are the "Band-lationship". He sits right next to me in band, both Jazz and stage (I play bass clarinet in stage and trombone in jazz) so we are the of many jokes. Now, onto my actual topic, do you have a "band-lationship" in your band? If so has anything funny or annoying happend from it at retreat, camp, tour, or concerts? Damn that was long.... My gf plays percusion and I play trumpet...

One of my really good friends -Nicole - is a sophomore, and she started dating this kid who's going into his freshman year earlier this summer. She plays clarinet and trombone and he plays bari sax, and both are gonna be in jazz band. His sister is my age (senior) and plays bass in the jazz band. I feel SO bad for them, because his sister is one of those really vocal people, and she's going to be giving them crap at the top of her lungs EVERY day. XD At our BD's wedding, she kept walking past the table they were sitting at and yelling, "Hand check!" Hahaha. But at least she likes Nicole; I hate to think what she'd do if she didn't. >>;;
