Okay, another question(can I put in two questions in a row?): When our favorite trio visits Hagrid in chapter eleven of book three, "The Firebolt", Ron asks how Hagrid's flobberworms are. He replies that they're dead, then states the reason. What is the reason that the flobberworms died?

In the second book, Harry was at the burrow, throwing garden gnomes over the hedge with the rest of the younger Weasleys.
Question: How far did he throw the gnome that bit his finger?
