The young dragon stepped back, wary of the dark flames around her. She didn't like the feel of the darkness, so she wouldn't be able to put them out. But that didn't matter right now.

When the viper struck, Leitha swept the bo staff up. The dark flames smashed upward into the head of the snake. The amulet helped her control the fire without using her own magic to touch the darkness.

It looks like Zoma's stones come in handy after all, she mused with a smirk. Rotating the bo staff from hand to hand, Leitha spung the weapon in a circle. The circle around her parted in front of her and she stepped out of the flames.

She kept her ear to the air. The hiss she heard earlier told her that her advisary was a snake. I don't like snakes, she thought with a shiver. She was happy to be blind because she was sure before her memory and eye loss, she was terrified of the fangs snakes had.

Tanya watched Axys closely, noting the ebb and flow of the darkness he was using. And boy, was he using it differently than Tanya would have. The technique was sorta like Shyrion's but not quite. Like two different schools, but with the same basic root. Tanya intended to ask Shyrion about this weird way of doing things... but later.

First, Axys seemed to be taking a darkness... but not really his own inner darkness. This wasn't his... but neither was it wild and him taming it. This was more like someone giving it to him. And then, with a little shock, Tanya realised he was actually mixing the darkness! He was mixing it, and warping its purity to force it to combine with what felt sorta like Tanyeera's power, but it too was warped. The result was a horrendous assault on Tanya's senses, like nails on a chalkboard except infinitely worse because it was affecting Tanya's darksense rather than her mere hearing.

She grimaced and shook her head, but the feeling only got worse when the admittedly cute snake thingy erupted from the earth. Yes, it was cute, in form at least, but in substance, it was monstrous. How dare he?! How dare he mix darkness like that?! Darkness was darkness, was her friend and her soul. How dare he warp and twist it, and dilute its very essence, that which made it darkness?!

Tanya's outrage was soothed only when Shyrion passed her her own darkness, coming from Shyrion herself. Tanya relaxed as she felt it inundate her. Mmm... here was beauty, here was power and majesty. Here was utterly uncontaminated darkness, the strength of which made Tanya gasp in pleasure. Shyrion's darkness really was wonderfully strong, and Tanya spared a moment to feel envious that she herself possessed no darkness. Then she chuckled at her foolishness. Why would she need her own personal darkness when all darkness was her friend?

Tanya's eyes turned black as midnight and she concentrated on swirling the wonderful darkness Shyrion had passed her. Wonderful it was indeed, neither wild like that in the Void nor weak like those from this bright world. Tamed already and strong, Tanya gleefully set about making it stronger still. Swirl and whirl and twirl, swirl and whirl and twirl, spinning it up to the strength of a hurricane, a tsunami, making it more than it ever was, more intense than it ever was, concentrating it and distilling it and empowering it till it crested and roared within Tanya and Tanya shot it off in a whirling, tightly focused lance of power, straight back at Shyrion.

"Keep pouring Shyrion! I'm the funnel, remember? Just keep pouring and I'll keep sending!" Indeed, she was still sending, one hand upraised and the power jetting from it, high-pressured and powerful, like a black geyser erupting from the palm of her hand. There was an enormous amount of power in Tanya and she dared not send it all at once lest it knock them both out. And so, she funneled, letting it leak in a controlled flow while she continued to swirl what remained, managing to maintain the crest but not build it as she could if Shyrion sent her a continuous stream of darkness to work with.

Link tried to catch the conversation but she was too far away to understand, though she dared not go closer. She tried to ready herself when the viper striked but she was still airborne and, while her air attacks were strong, her air defenses were not nearly so. Throwing up a wall of water she braced for an impact. Her plan was simple yet dangerous.

As soon as the serpentine's head hit her shield she'd drop from behind it to a lower level, if not to the ground. From that point she'd be able to fight better. But, unfortunately, this was all in theory. Link wasn't exactly sure how well it'd work.

Shyrion gasped as she felt her own power pierce back through her, like a lightning strike, but in a good way. She could feel her energy build tenfold from the transaction, but knew she had to keep it going to sustain this level of power, even as the little girl told her to continue on. Her own black shadow raged inside her, wildly powerful, but her force of will kept it in check; and altogether separate from that which was to be funneled. This was her shadow, it would not overcome her. For a moment, she paused, considering calling for a Rune, as Axys had… but what need had she of paltry Runes? The shadow obeyed her whim, despite its wild ferocity. All she needed to do was meld it to suit her wishes. With one hand outstretched towards the serpent of black flame, she thought of a whirlwind; grains of sand caught within the howling gales. The heat of the serpent would melt the sand…

The other palm faced Tanya; held fast to the connection between herself and the child, a thread of darkness between them; through that thread she concentrated on passing along the darkness—the whole ordeal was a bit like walking and chewing gum at the same time. And at last, when she could hold back the whirlwind no longer, she allowed it to rage in the form of a violent tornado around the two of them, gathering sand from the earth. It became an ebony twister; the figures of the two Tainted were silhouettes within the funnel-cloud. Shyrion let out a mad cackle, challenging the serpent to come near.

Axys did no such thing, as she had expected. The human had been granted immortal life, and still he was nothing but a coward! The winds began to form a great tempest with the force of the fallen one’s anger. As the four heads of the snake opened wide their maws to belch flame, Shyrion’s storm lashed out and took the fire within itself, consuming the tongues of fire as a sea quenches molten lava. The sand within the storm grew white hot, merging together as Shyrion had wished it to, and the tempest became a hurricane of molten glass…

The winds threw themselves at the snake, coating it in a thin layer of glass. The winds tore into it mercilessly. The glass was hardening; if the summoner stopped moving, he would be trapped within a crystal prison as the molten stuff dried.

Axys, his thoughts on four different battles all at once, writhed and coiled in mid-air. One of his heads had just bitten into a shield made of water; the other had been struck smartly with a staff; and his attack hadn’t worked on Shyrion—how had the darkness eaten it like that?

Because you do not know its full potency. You and your Runes! Ha! I only created the Runes for those who are unwilling to fully embrace the shadow; for those that still cling to the light. The Runes tempt those who would desire more power, as indeed you did. But once they are immersed in the shadow, they become something more.

You see those two? They use the darkness as though they are the darkness. But even they are nothing compared to Lord Riven, for he can twist both light and dark to his desires, so that all the powers of the worlds are alike to him.

I will show you.

Axys hearkened to his master’s words in shock. The demon lord sounded amused, as though this were only a passing fancy; what was even more surprising was that he could use the Elements freely, was willing to use them, and could meld them with the shadow—as he had done with Axys’ dark fire serpent.

I will show you. The voice seemed to whisper in Shyrion’s ear, so that for an instant she turned around to see who had spoken.

Just then, the snake shrieked, and the green glimmer in its eyes faded away. But instead of growing weaker, the black fire within it surged forth, so that the imprisoning layer of glass was obliterated. The heads of the snake moved flawlessly with one another now. The one who had bitten into Link’s shield threw itself forward further still, its internal fires evaporating the liquid. Its coils quickly encircled the white dragon as she hovered there, its open mouth directly under her, preparing to constrict, all the while willing her to look into its eyes...

The snake which had attacked Leitha hissed angrily, and its eyes flashed. The dark fire that had encircled her moments before gathered itself together, and rose as if to engulf her. The serpent shot forward towards Leitha once again, baring its fangs.

You wish to play, young ones," Riven addressed Tanya and Shyrion, and his voice was terrible to hear. It seemed to reverberate within their thoughts. "Then let us play. I am a more suitable match for which to test your skills. I shall even let these dragons fight me."

Shyrion's storm faltered for a moment. How could she fight her beloved Master?

Show me your strength, she heard Riven within her mind, and reluctantly, the winds of her dark tempest began to gain power once again...

When the snake struck again with it's fangs bared, Leitha once again met the creature head on. But this time she drove the bo staff into the mouth of the viper. The flamed end of the bo staff smashed into the roof of the mouth of the beast.

The young dragon couldn't hold back the scream that escaped her lips when a fang pierced her left shoulder. Using all her strength, she pushed back the wounded viper. Falling to her knees, she clutched her injured shoulder.

If she had not been blind, her vision would have been swimming, but the poison had the same effect. Leitha couldn't stand as pain ebbed in and out of her nerves. She slammed her hands down on the ground to steady herself. Her mind couldn't concentrate, which frightened her. The darkness of her eyes was moving to her other senses. The ones that helped her live without the color of the world.

She tried to sit, but lost the battle and found herself on her back. Her breathing was becoming more and more ragged. She could feel blood pouring sickingly into her lungs. She knew she needed to right herself up, but she didn't have the strength.

Link tried to drop down as she had planned but was caught and held in the viper's coils. She made an attempt at freeing herself the the thick serpentine body made her attempts useless. Her wings wer pushed painfully against her back and she could feel the viper beginning to squeeze ever so sligthly. She knew this wouldn't end well.

Link continued to struggle, avoiding the creature's eyes with an unknown purpose; it just didn't feel right. She looked around to find something, anything that she could do to free herself, she was beginning to get very tired. Her searching stopped as she became distracted by watching Leitha fall back.

Would they be defeated in this way? Not if she could help it. Continuing to avoid the serpents gaze Link looked to the ground. It was difficult to manipulate the earth from her position but she could do it. Hopefully what she did would work because it would take the rest of what she had.

Link willed plants and all vines of any nature to grow, rapidly wrapping themselves around the bodies of the vipers, trying to pull them down as the earth began to open, ready to swallow them whole.

Ekanta watched guiltily from behind a wall. She wanted to help but her powers were useless right now because of the ammount of magick she'd used. Her eyes widened as one of the females fighting fell back, her shoulder wounded by a viper's fang.

Now that want to help became a need. She ran to the young dragon's side as quickly as she could, hoping she wouldn't be attacked as well. Maybe the viper might deem the blind dragon as good as dead and let her be taken. The mermaid bent low to pick up Leitha so she could carry her to safety and help her as best she could.

"Stay calm, I'm going to get you out of here." she said as she lifted the girl.

[Wow, time just flew by. Before I knew it a week in posting had passed! D<]

Reyen took to the sky, Axys' sudden burst of energy being easily avoided. The creatures he was battling before had disappeared, perhaps consumed in the blast itself. Their deaths would have greeted them either way. However there was still the problem of Axys... Reyen was sure of this. Not to mention he was much stronger than before, the first time he met the summoner. A lot... Darker perhaps. If a thing could have even been done.

Reyen lowered himself to beside Link. Both were trying intently to listen to the conversations of these dark beings. Was everyone here against Axys now? The summoner claimed these two to be of the dragon's allies, a false of course. Reyen never believed in the, "The enemy of my enemy is my friend.", bit. 'Cause once you get rid of your enemy you just end up having your ally turn into your enemy. Especially if they were "creatures of the dark."

Reyen looked upon the serpent with content. One of its heads shot towards each of the dragons, himself included. His wings spread apart and beat down towards the ground. His body went flying up with immense speed, the head of the serpent having no chance to even scratch him. Yet with this speed, would Reyen be able to scratch it, unharmed? The bone of it's body looked hard and was most certainly molded with dark energies. His body, and sword, was completely embodied with light. This serpent had darkness in it. Polar opposites. He could inflict a great amount of damage on it because of this, yet the same could be said about the serpent. If he touched it at all... There'd be a significant amount of damage done.

The snake head continued it's assault against Reyen. Like before, Reyen continued to evade it easily. Just then a sharp, piercing cry filled his ears. The snakes heads began to move faster now. Their movements even seemed to assist each other.

Reyen was still evading it's attempted attacks against him, but with much less ease. he had seen several opportunities to attack but had chosen not to. His eyes began to glance about at the others. They... Were not doing so good it appeared. Three of them were on the ground. Two assisting and one actually injured. Which left Reyen with... All three heads. Joy.

Reyen continued to evade. He looked over to see how the three were doing again, but spotted one of the heads looming over, probably to attack. The other one was near to. "Well, let's have some fun then!" Reyen laughed. In each of his palms he formed a small fireball, sending it to the to other heads. The attack would do nothing but cause an itch to form, but hopefully they'd be drawn to Reyen.

((Hey everybody! Tanyeera's having difficulties posting in her guilds or something. She PMed me with her post, so I have posted it for her. And I shall work on mine shortly. mad d ))

Tanyeera

Tanya could still see the bright world through the darkness in her eyes. As she kept up the never-wavering flow of power to Shyrion and assimilated the darkness she was given, she still found time to be delighted at how inventive her friend was. She was using darkness as it should be used, and she was managing to use other stuff too without contaminating darkness. The sand idea had been a neat trick, using the horrendous snake thingy's own abominable fire to melt the sand and encase it. The way Tanya saw it, the game had already ended and she and Shyrion were the most definite victors.

Then everything changed. Someone else was joining the game, but on the wrong side! They weren't playing with the nasty Axys anymore, but someone else. And the someone else felt…weird. Just… strange. Tanya hadn’t ever felt someone like that before. But in any case, there was no doubting his strength. And the fact that he did have some kind of darkness in him… it felt as weird as he did but Tanya could still feel that it was basically dark.

Tanya grinned in excitement. This was going to be fun! She hadn’t really liked playing with Axys, he’d mixed darkness after all. But besides that, besides the absolute atrocity he had committed, he’d also been boring. Dreadfully boring in fact. Games should have some sort of challenge right? Then when you won, you’d know you really earned it. But Axys had been a total dead loss. He had to resort to lousy tricks like corrupting darkness in order to get to anything done.

But the new guy felt like a whole ‘nother league. Tanya rather thought that the only reason he was using that mess Axys had made was to teach him how to do things properly. If you were going to pull cheap tricks, you ought to at least do them right. Personally, though Tanya enjoyed the game, she was looking forward to its end when she could finally straighten out the poor darkness Axys had twisted so dreadfully. Make it itself again, make it pure and dark again.

But for now, there was a game to play and Shyrion’s lovely darkness eddying and swirling through her. She could tell though, that she’d need to jack things up a little. Try her very hardest, her very best. She’d lose if she forgot to take this new guy seriously. She felt herself grinning again. This game was gonna be a blast!

Tanya hunched her shoulders a little more, set her feet as firmly as she could, and tensed her arms rigid, palms out as though she was pushing against some gigantic wall. One hand absorbed Shyrion’s shadows, the other one gave them back to her. Tanya furrowed her brows in concentration and shut her eyes. When she opened them again, they were wholly black. Neither pupil, nor iris, nor any hint of white visible, her eyes looked like twin pools of darkness where the unwary could fall through forever and never hit bottom.

Inside Tanya, she was gearing up and getting serious. She threw everything she had into swirling Shyrion’s darkness, transforming its breezes into towering hurricanes. The shadows she sent to Shyrion were strengthening second by second, drawn from the evermore ferocious maelstrom in Tanya. Neither did it look as though the storm had yet reached the peak of its power. Tanya was still urging it to swirl faster, be stronger, be darker, be what it truly was. The taste of a violin’s clear note, the sound of a picture, the feeling of fruity spices… all this and a billion things more that Tanya knew was all darkness.

Everything had its price of course. Tanya’s physical body was experiencing tremors. With the force of the power inside her, that was not surprising. Her stance kept her upright, but her rigid tenseness was spilling over into shivers. Tanya hardly noticed, so focused was she in swirling. And swirling. And swirling.

The winds of the swirling tempest grew ever stronger, fierce and sharp as more sand was melted, hardened, broke apart into shattered pieces. The gales began to hew great chunks of earth from the ground all around the pair of Tainted, intermixing with the glass shards and other debris. Shyrion saw that one of the dragons had fallen, her shoulder bleeding. A being from the icy world was attempting to assist her... but Shyrion did not care for such creatures as these. Her efforts were placed solely on showing what great strength she had, how much better suited she was for performing for him than the weakling Axys. And yet her Master was Axys, using the human's powers to his fullest extent, for without a true physical form, Riven was nothing more than spirit here within the material plane - all but bereft of power. The summoner tied him here, and also Shyrion herself, whom he had called forth to do his bidding on Orcos.

However great it seemed, Riven's power was compromised, for if he unleashed his true strength the summoner would perish beyond the demon lord's power to heal; perhaps consumed by his own sable inferno. This Riven could not allow, for then he and Shyrion both would be thrown back into the Void. It was a dangerous game the demon lord played, but one he played well. And then it occurred to Shyrion - what if she actually defeated him? Her darkness, thanks to Tanya, would only get stronger. Did it have a limit? How much could her will take before her power, in turn, consumed her? The ex-general's eyes widened in excitement...

The gusts of dark wind began to claw at the seven-headed serpent like the talons of some great beast, but her master only deflected the blows with great walls of dark fire. Despite her growing power, her willpower seemed less than her master's. She snarled in anger, her lurid eyes glowing in the semi-darkness created by the wicked magic.

And so Shyrion condensed the winds into more forceful blasts, gathering speed as they whirled about her, only to be thrust towards the serpent, intent on eroding his defenses...

~~~
Waves against a rocky shore, thought Riven as he simultaneously blocked Shyrion's formidable attacks, whilst also contending with the remaining two dragons. Three of his heads now fought with Reyen; another twisted around Link. The last three faced Shyrion and the child. Yet through all the excitement, Riven did not allow himself to become angry. He fought with an amused coldness as though entirely detached from the battle, peering at it from a distance and deciding what would be the best course of action. His eyes stared into the orbs of yellow in the eye of the storm, only to find that Shyrion gazed back unafraid. She had become one of the greatest of his army because of her lack of fear, and now she had little to be afraid of, for with the girl to amplify her ability she had become stronger still.
A wall of flame to shield me from the winds, he spoke to them both. I am safe within, but what will protect you when I strike back? Riven thought of a poison, a quiet haze amid the already dusky air around them. It meandered around both shield and gusts, seeping into the earth and the air, coming ever closer to the duo in the center of the tempest...
~~~

An itching irritation in the three heads had them all hissing in displeasure. Three pairs of eye sockets each tried to catch the winged dragon's eye. It was Riven's idea of multitasking - fighting four opponents at once. He had done so many times before, and was adept at it. But this white dragon was fast. The heads each tried to strike in turn, and a simple idea occurred to him. The dark flame about their skeletons began to solidify, becoming alike to a sort of sticky ooze. If Reyen struck, he'd be caught, and with the speed at which the vipers were striking, he'd have to fight back eventually...

As Link struggled, the viper began to constrict ever tighter. The earth was moving around the seven headed snake, and Riven recognized the Earth magic Link was using. The vines were wrapping around his flaming body, pinning the bulk of him in place; but still, he did not let Link go...

The young dragon couldn't move without sending a sheering pain to her skull. A drip of blood came out of her mouth. She stared blankly into space, unable to think. She knew that she would have to think in order to figure out which stone in her pack held an antidote for most poisons, but she couldn't.

Numbly, Leitha let Ekanta lift her to safety. She tried to keep her body as still as possible to stop the spread of the poison, if even for some more time.

From within the Void, the two brothers watched in horror and amazement the events that befell their comrades outside. Synrai, already beginning to feel much better, began to examine the dark one's attacks. He had heard a wicked voice in the gloom of the shadowy place. This was not Axys Mordaen, the misguided human. This was something much more ominous. If only he could get out... but it was no use...

His heart gave a painful twinge. He would have to wait.

"Leitha!" Wyvern struggled futilely against his bonds. "She got bitten!" Synrai turned back to see Ekanta lift the young dragon gently, his face betraying his worry. Just then, the winds shifted a bit to reveal Link entrapped within the coils of the skeletal serpent, and Reyen fighting three of its heads all at once.

"Got - to - get - outta - here! - Must - help - friends!" Wyvern squirmed and wriggled, but it was no use. After several minutes of wiggling, he had gone limp, panting.

"All that will get you nowhere," Synrai murmured, surprised at how weak his voice still was. Wyvern glared at his older brother angrily.

"So what do you propose we do?" the young dragon asked with a loud harrumph. "Just wait here?"

"We don't have any other choice."

"This stuff is dark magic, right?" he asked after a while, indicating the rings. "So couldn't we use dark magic to loosen it?" Synrai stared daggers into his younger brother until Wyvern's expression of hopefulness vanished completely. He looked back outside, only to see that some of Link's vines had managed to wrap themselves around the flaming serpent.

"Hey! She's got it held down! Go Link!" Wyvern cheered. "Wow, that's a big snake. You sure that's the evil summoner guy?"

Synrai thought for a moment. He hadn't seen Axys move, and the green glimmer in the center viper's eye sockets had been unmistakable.

"He is still there, encased between the three heads facing Shyrion and the girl. That is why those three have not moved since the snake was formed. If Axys himself is injured badly enough, he won't have the strength to hold all that magic up. He will have to flee." If only they could tell the others...

But the only ones that could enter the Void were Shyrion, or the girl. And it seemed they were a bit occupied at the moment...

Reyen's focus began to withdraw itself from the serpent heads. He was watching Shyrion attack hopelessly. She was attacking the beast as well, but to no avail. Reyen thought on this as his attention was brought back to the heads. Her attacks were fairly fierce, similar in nature to his own. And it did nothing. And if he attacked, what if he actually succeeded in killing these heads, if even such a thing were possible?

"This serpent was summoned. What's to say it wouldn't be again if it were defeated? Which leaves only one available solution." Reyen thought as his eyes glared over at Axys. The summoner was at a fair distance from him... But who said Reyen needed to be close? There was still the problem of these serpents, however...

Reyen looked at the status of his comrades. One was binded while the others were fleeing to safety. Link probably would be able to escape unscathed if he did nothing. Which might leave only him next. "It's worth a shot. What's the worst that could happen." Reyen thought to himself. He knew the answer and was likely that it could actually happen.

Reyen dove down towards the ground, slipping through the serpent heads. Their flames had turned into some type of solid now, not like it mattered anymore. He had a different target. But he wouldn't let the summoner know this. Instead he kept his focus on the heads. His wings pounded down and sent him flying high into the air again. His body momentarily stopped, his eyes closed his middle and index fingers placed against his forehead. Behind him a wind gust began to form and encircle itself. It continued to do this, growing smaller each time. More of these began to form and all did the same thing. Eventually they each formed into a transparent spike, whistling in the air. That wasn't his true goal though.

Far off in the distance, opposite the battlefield, far behind Axys, similar spikes were being formed among those discs that Reyen had used on Axys before. Once all were formed Reyen opened his eyes and looked at the serpent heads. They were closing on him, and fast. Instantly Reyen let the spikes behind him shoot, but not towards the heads. They maneuvered their way around the necks and then went flying towards Axys. At the same time, the ones far behind him were sent flying forwards as well. his plan was to hopefully distract him for the ones behind him with the spikes.

Reyen had to quickly dodge the heads now. but alas, even he was not quick enough. He had barely dodged two of them, his shoulder graining one of them and burning his skin. The last one had completely caught his arm in it's mouth. It's sharp teeth punctured his arm and an instant, unimaginable amount of pin struck Reyen. After only a second his arm was already discolored, now a dark-purpleish color.

Reyen eyes literally began to water he was in so much pain. he had dropped his sword earlier which would be of no help to him. His free arm began to try and free his other one. His hand burned also as it touched the monster. Just barely he was able to get it loose enough so he could pull the arm away without ripping it off. As Reyen pulled his arm out, the teeth of the creature punctured the skin all the way down to his hand. With the last bit of energy he had left Reyen summoned a massive gust to hit the creature, and himself. The wind pounded against Reyen and sent him flying at the ground, leaving a small crater upon impact.

As if the terrible darkness from the creature was bad enough, the venom was now entering his blood as well! Reyen could not even move anymore, his eyes locked in a state of pain, his pupils a third their normal size. He was unconscious, of course, yet his eyes stayed open in that frightening look.

[And Reyen's out cold. xD]

((Yes! I'm in! Whether it was my com or Gaia itself spazzing out when I couldn’t get into the guilds, it seems to be all cleared up now. Thanks loads for helping me out Kijin!))

Tanya trusted Shyrion. It was her job to use what Tanya gave her and it was Tanya’s job to give her so much that she could do whatever she wanted to to win the game. The more Tanya gave her, the more likely they’d win the game, all that was perfectly logical to Tanya.

That was why she was currently not paying any attention to the game beyond seeing that she continued to receive darkness from Shyrion and that the darkness she sent to Shyrion was firmly bridled for all its ferocity. Her attention was mostly wholly bent on the darkness within her.

Faster, she urged. Faster! Faster! She willed it to be stronger and because she wanted it, so it was. She used the momentum she had already generated to keep it going, but it took a conscious act of will to keep it going on to new and greater heights.

The darkness in her eyes was blacker than ever now, she seemed almost to glow with it. The tremors that had wracked her body had graduated into full out shudders and her hands were spread as wide as they could go, fingers actually arching backwards with her tension as power spurted from her palm at an ever-increasing rate and force. She was hardly controlling any of it, not her body’s tension nor how she continued to keep her feet on the ground. All she was concentrating on was doing what she did best, what felt most right and good to her.

Darkness. A chiming sigh, the colours of black. Motion of thought, sweetness of soul…

With all the swirling going on inside her, Tanya wasn’t just making darkness hers anymore. She was letting darkness be her. She was giving herself to it; it was the only way to know it ever more deeply. It was she who spun with the force of a raging tornado, she was the one who shot out of her own palm to connect with Shyrion and enrich her. And a bit of her… just a little bitty bit… was what was around them both this moment, still her though it was Shyrion who had made this bit of her. As she poured herself into the darkness, it responded.

The darkness roared silently within her and expanded abruptly, a new rush of power, not just an increase, but an actual jump in its strength. It was even darker than before, not just pure but actively concentrated in its essence. Tanya caressed and cooed over herself, preening slightly in her own attention, but then she got serious and reminded herself of her job and function in this game. She sprang to attention and obediently jetted off, arrowing right into Shyrion. Look at me! She sang in the language of darkness. See how much stronger I am now, how much better, how much more! Feel me, use me! Together, we can do anything!

Shyrion could feel her Master’s poison seeping in about her, in the air, in the earth surrounding her, in her heart; and in her mind she heard his strong clear voice, more ancient than she—full of wisdom so long ago, when the worlds were one. She saw once again the golden trees of her long-forgotten home, remembered once more the radiant eve before nightfall. The sky painted in an effusion of mercurial colors.

She turned around at the sound of his silken voice, so fair and terrible all at the same time that it seemed to permeate into her mind as he spoke, and all else was silent.

‘You have grown stronger still,’ he murmured, but despite its stillness, it seemed that the words he wove were all that she could hear; and his maroon-hued eyes were all that she could see. The elven girl took his alabaster hand without question, trusting, gazing in wonder at the sable wings. ‘I see much promise…’

A swell of strength, Tanya singing… the barrier from which her Master hid from her beginning to crumble… and yet the venom, warping the air around her, drawing closer… surely she would be struck down, and Tanya with her…

NO!

Look at me! See how much stronger I am now, how much better, how much more! Feel me, use me! Together, we can do anything!

Shyrion screamed defiance, half-mad, her storm haze condensing into a solid form. No elven-maiden was she; hundreds of years had melded her into what she was now. She had been spurned by the light, abandoned, and banished into the wasteland realm. Lost for so long, that her true name had been long-forgotten. All because she had taken the hand of the fallen angel, and walked with him in the starlit glade.

Shyrion took to the air, past her own tempest, past the solid flame barrier, closer. Her hands arched above her, the dark forming a vicious blade… It had all happened so fast…

Long had she pondered over this dark creature; his essence had seemed so domineering, his form so pure. He had whispered things that even years later, had seemed true. Ideas to change the world - a place where all were equal.

And then the goddess had cast them aside, and never again was she to see the light of day as she had once experienced it. Yet even still, she clung to the beauty that she remembered; twisting her elven form alike to his within the Void.

The silken voice laughed.

Time slowed. Shyrion opened her eyes, only to find those of green widen in shock, as though their owner had only just woken. The tainted blade hovered inches before his chest, which was already soaked in black and scarlet. Axys’ face was twisted in pain; what had happened? She hadn’t even touched him…

And then summoner and snake were gone, along with the remnants of the demon who had spirited them away. Darkness and sword disappeared in a nebula of color and sound, and the ex-general stood with her tendril-whips cast behind her like a limp cloak. She looked around her, surveying the damaged place, the three dragons scattered about.

((In other words, Reyen's attack worked. xp ))

Link continued to struggle even as the viper pulled tighter around her. The vines continued to climb around the great snakes body, pulling it farther down. She couldn't breathe and had already felt several of her ribs, among other bones, break. Even as her lungs cried for air and her body wished her to stop she fought on with her Earth magic.

Link's thoughts became dizzy as her vision swirled. She had to keep fighting, but she couldn't take in air to keep herself awake. Then the crushing constriction of the viper was gone and she was left in the air for naught but two seconds before she fell back to the ground. Her body had gone numb as she tried to pull air back into her aching lungs. Pain had yet to come, but Link knew it would be unbearable the next time she woke up.

Link could see Reyen lying nearby, unconscious. She was soon to join him.

Ekanta pulled the young dragon away and sat her down in a safe place. She needed to help her quickly before the viper's venom killed her. But what could she do? Her water magic was now very limited. Looking up she saw yet another one of the dragons fall, wounded by the snake, it's venom seeping into his body as well. It wasn't long before the snake was then gone and the battle over.

Ekanta lifted Leitha carfully once more and moved towards Reyen. He could pull the venom from them but with what little magic she had left she would have to do both at once. She laid the girl next to Reyen and quickly held one hand over her wound and the other over his. With much consentration she would be able to pull the venom from their blood. Closing her eyes Ekanta prayed for it to work.
