"The couch is a much better place to fall asleep," Owle agreed, nodding at Damien. "Sorry I didn't wake you up, I didn't want to disturb you, and I was a little...preoccupied."

Covered in slime and then tasked to do laundry.

Ding!

And that would be the dryer, finishing up Jack's clothes. She hoped she'd remembered to toss a dryer sheet in, she honestly couldn't remember whether she had or not. "So, can I get you anything?" she asked Damien. Hopefully Jack didn't need them right away, she had to tend to the customers first.

Flare... sent back in much the same tone of voice, mocking Flare's anger.

"That is not necessary Owle. I just am getting old, living as long as I have does that to you. Most of the time I act as fit as a bull moose. But that will catch up to people. I'll just sit here and finish this project of mine and comtemplate the world," he says. He then grabs some of his silvery gray hair that reaches the floor and looks at it for a while. He then sighs and lets it falls down and just leans back and watces the antics of the other patrons.

Shifting in his chair uncomfortably, gulping down mouthfuls of beer, Gamma momentarily forgot that he was supposed to be some corporate executive.
"So how do you get by so penniless? A bar is probably the last place I'd go if I had no money to buy nothing."

And then thinking that in actuality, that is quite definitely the first place he'd go. Still running his finger along the glass, trying to get the hum to match harmony with some song he'd heard once.

Failing miserably.

Gammu could really only agree, though he liked the innovation because it meant there were always new toys to play with. Just the thought of them made him smile. A small he hid by taking a drink.

Listening to Gamma he thought a while, considering how she commanded the blue haired woman they were probably close, welfare.

Letting his eyes wander he wondered what the ******** was wrong with the grey hair guy. Well that didn't matter, though there was the briefest idea of twisting his head off.

Taking another drink he looked at Flare, wondering what her answer would be.

"Well, if you say so," Owle said with a shrug. "Let me know if you need anything, okay?"

And with that she vanished into the back room.

Flare chuckled. "I said I was unemployed, not penniless. I'm actually quite wealthy; I work because it amuses me, not because I need to."

"My living costs are minimal, anyway."

A cave in the Barton Mountains for shelter, and whatever she caught and roasted for food. Either that or whatever food was provided by her current employer, and now and then she'd get a meal at the Firebrand. If she was nearby. She was laughing again, not obnoxiously but softly, thinking of exactly what 'minimal' meant for her.

Gamma gave a shrug to the difference between unemployed and broke. Seizing the cigarette pack on the table, he pulled a single out and jammed it in his mouth.
"Can't say I don't love my job. Not much beats a working life with good pay."
He spoke around the cigarette in his mouth, offering a hand over to Gammu. Palm up right in front of him.
"Hours kinda suck."
He had his lighter.

Having a drunken moment Gammu looked at Gamma for a while. His brain caught up about getting paid, he never remembered getting any pay check. Sure there had been a few times they gotten money for expenses when away on missions.

"Oh."

Reaching into his pocket he pulled out the lighter and tossed it to Gamma.

"Yeah, long hours; but when things get pressed they tend to get interesting."

"I chose the military and now I make my own hours. Hard work is always good for people, but a lot of people are so repulsed by it today. Always wanting everything to come to them but not to work for them." He starightens up in his chair and turns back to the weapon he is building and starts to stick in more of the pieces.

Jack could now be seen on the roof, having explored a bit and finding that roof access. In the night camo suit he donned, since he wasn't going in public and had dressed in it when he was in a hurry, he'd look practically invisable to anyone who wasn't looking for him.

Then again, if someone had supernatural sensing abilities and found a dead zone there, Jack would probably be found anyway.

The young man yawned, and folded his hands underneath his head. He wasn't quite ready for bed yet. Jack laid down with one leg bent and the other flat.

"I wonder if those stars are the same as the ones back home..."

Jack pondered.

"Ah, they call you in the middle of the night, on holidays, weekends, expect you to be at their beck and call every hour of every day?" Flare assumed, nodding in false sympathy. Or maybe she was just nodding.

She looked up to Gammu...or, what was it, Thomas Handill?...whatever, she had never been good with names. "Interesting? Tell me about it."

It was an invitation, not the usual figure of speech.

Owle re-emerged from the backroom, an armload of Jack's clothes in her hands. They weren't exactly what you could call folded, but she had tried. Sorta. Then she'd given up and just grabbed the whole heap of them, whatever state of folding they were in.

"I got nothing against the military, so long as they don't try to boss around civilians."

She'd been in time to hear Damien's comments, and responded as she passed him on her way to the stairs.

Heading up, she shifted the laundry so that she could knock on the door of Jack's room. "Hello, Jack? It's me, Owle. I brought your clothes up for you."

She waited about thirty seconds, and didn't get a response. "Jack?"

She tried the knob.

If it was open, she would peek in cautiously, then look to see if the bathroom door was open or shut. No, he wasn't in there...

Where'd he get to?

She hadn't seen him come downstairs. Oh, well. She deposited the now clean (if crumpled) clothing on his bed, and exited the room.

If it wasn't open...well, she was standing there with an armload of clothes, trying to figure out what to do and wishing she had a master key.

With all that expensive equipment, one can sure bet it wasn't just left open.

Jack heard some moving around down below him through his earpiece. He stuck his head down through the roof access and gave a short of shout.

"Eh... someone need some help down there?"

Jack asked, not really sure what was going on. If he didn't hear a response, he'd just go back to laying on the roof.

Once again they switched. Gamma would answer though Flare asked Gammu. But whether she knew it or not, she was addressing both of them.

Bringing the lighter up to the cigarette end and enlivened the little cherry at the tip. Openly snorting when that other guy butted in on their conversation. On cue with the other guy said 'chose'.

"Makes for a shitty story. We go out and catch bullets, come home and ask 'how high?' and repeat." It was gradually becoming apparent that the drunkeness was declining into a surliness. Gamma spoke with a straight face and made some attempt not to sway around too much.
"But if you do what you're told you get some pretty decent vacation time."

Gammu listened as Gamma was talking; but he still managed to hear the words of that guy he wanted to kill. Waiting tell Gamma was done talking he would then turn around and shout out to the man.

"Hey, ********! There isn't a military, nor para-military force that let's you pick your own hours. Unless you were working for the Salvation Army."

Turning back around he shrugged and looked at Flare.

"On top of that we sometimes get to do promotional work."
