Ray nods. "Well, it's very possible that it might be only for a few days. Our Weyrwoman is ... ah ... well. We're not sure, she might have stepped down, but in all the confusion of the past few weeks, nobody's really found out. And I suppose now is a bad time to have her here anyways, what with Wrath..." she trails off.

"Yeah. So. Would you like a slice of roast wherry? I took more than I could eat, it should still be warm."

P'las raised an eyebrown at the goldrider. "That would be a rather confusing situation." He glanced about the area, noticing the lack of activity. At High Reaches, the place would be filled with people running in and out constantly. But there was only one other in the cavern, other than Rayi. He'd known that the situation here was bad, but he was beginning to believe that it was worse than he'd thought.

"Hmm? Oh, yes, please." His attention was back on Rayi, a smile aimed towards her as he sat himself across from her and neatly speared a slice of meat with his belt knife.

Ray sees P'las noticing how empty the Weyr seems to be. "We're still able to fight Thread effectively," she says somewhat defensively. "We may be underpopulated at the moment, but we still have enough fighting Wings."

The man gave a slight blush and nodded. "It's rather nice. At High Reaches, the place is always filled with people running around everyone. Here, everyone seems relaxed. Must be nice."

"Yeah, but we've seem to run rather low on bronzes." She frowns. "I can only think of one that I actually know--and that's not too well--and two weyrlings."
PostPosted: Fri Jan 28, 2005 6:19 pm

"Perhaps High Reaches could help there. There is another bronzerider I know that could perhaps come. And a few brownriders as well..." He grinned at the woman, having heard of the last dragon that had caught Wrath. "Or you could declare it open to all the Weyrs, you know."

"That's a really good idea." She quirks an eyebrow at the mention of brownriders, but shrugs it off. Wrath would like the attention from as many suitors as possible. "I guess I've just been too frayed around the edges to think of it myself." She smiles. "That's definitely a relief."

P'las shrugged. "I could see why, what with what's been happening here recently. I could have Peri pass the message onto our Weyrleader and he could pass it on from there, if you wish. I doubt you'd want to awaken your dragon..."

Pericolath had mentioned to his rider that the gold was sleeping. Usually that was a sign of the Flight being close. Though the option of opening the Flight to all bronzeriders would make Peri's chances of winning slightly less, he could just hope that having actually met the woman would help. Somewhat.

"If Pericolath doesn't mind, that would be nice of him..." she thinks a moment... the idea of so many complete strangers rather scares her. Perhaps... "Though perhaps instead, have him pass along that each Weyrleader may select a Wingleader or two that are ready for the potential responsiblity involved. If I do end up having to be Weyrwoman, then the rider whose dragon wins the flight will be Weyrleader. I'd rather not have to deal with an amateur just out of the Weyrling barracks."

((okay, if I mess up T'rin completely, don't get angry. I'm trying here.))

The bright blue burst out of between, announcing himself to the Watchdragon. Morkth and T'rin of Fort Weyr... He tilted a wing and spiralled gracefully down to land in the Weyrbowl.

T'rin dismounted smoothly, several eggpots cradled in his arms. Morkth, how do we always get roped into these things?

You're a sucker for a pretty face, mine.

Ah, yes. That. T'rin cast a glance around him. Let's see, he had one for... Nikomas, was it? Yes, and two for Myyth... Right. Then there was one for Y'dren and one for B'rol too. Where would they be?

He saw one young man, probably about sixteen, wandering aimlessly about the Weyrbowl. "Hey, you! Kid!" he called, not particularly caring at the moment if he took offense.

"Yes sir?" T'rin paused. He was surprised by the formality... had anyone EVER called him 'sir' before? No, usually it was just 'hey you'... rather as he'd addressed this guy. He shook his head.

"You know where I can find..." he stopped, remembering the names. "Nikomas, Myyth, Y'dren and B'rol?" He gestured to the eggpots in his arms. "I've got some flit eggs here for them."

The young man's eyes lit up. "I'm B'rol..." He gazed at the eggpots. "And Y'dren's one of my good friends. I'll take his for him... and I'll let the others know if I happen to run into them."

T'rin nodded, handing the boy one blue-banded and one green-banded pot. "I think the colours are what the flits'll be. I think Naeryn - that's the girl who's flit had these here eggs - had picked them for each of you, but... well, I don't really remember, so you can squabble over them between yourselves. I'd appreciate it if you'd let the other two know, thanks." With that, he strode back to Morkth and leaned against his faithful dragon's side to wait - he wasn't fool enough to get lost in Benden. Not with a proddy Wrath around... and he wanted to get out of there quick, BEFORE that gold rose. Besides, he still had pots to deliver to the Harper Hall, and to Igen and Ista Weyrs.

((Hint hint, Niko and Myyth...))

Myyth had been in the kitchens when a drudge had come in, and some of th e first words out of him were "Dragon landed...........Yes, flit eggs I hear....."

Shrugging she went to see what she could find out. With in a few minutes she found a slighlty confused looking B'rol walking down th hall a pair of egg pots in his hands. "B'rol" she said, running up to him, "Whats this I hear about flit eggs?' B'rol Looked at the eggs he carried before replying.

"The eggs are for Nikomas, you and Y'dren. There are two here for you."
Myyth looked a bit shocked. "Two for me? I are sure you heard right, I though I was getting a single egg? "No" B'rol replied, "It was two for you and one for each of the others."

Myyth shrugged and looked at the eggs in the blue pot. "Well I ride a green......or will ride. I guess I'll take two of these....." She turns over the eggs and notices a dark-muddy colored egg in with the blues.
"Well I'll take the funny looking one......and this blueish egg, if you don't mind of couse?"

B'rol shrugged, "I've already chosen mine" he said. Myyth nodded and watched him walk off, leaving her with a small pot and the two eggs.
"I guess I should take these to the hatching grounds or something"
Myyth walked off down a hall studying the two eggs.

"There we go, I think I've oiled every last spot of you. Is there any place I missed?" Kya rubs his shoulder as he steps back to look at his gleaming brown.

I don't think so. But could you put an extra bit on my wing-shoulders? They itch a little bit.

"No problem," he dips the rag again and climbs up Nakoreth's oil-slick forearm to to attack the requested spot. "Is it just me, or have you been putting on more muscle lately?"

I don't know. I feel strong. Nakoreth moves his wings, causing Kya to grab for a ridge to keep his balance. Sorry. I'm still growing, a little bit. We browns take our time.

"That's certainly true," Kya agrees. "While I'm up here, anywhere else you'd like to get extra oiling?"

I don't think so.

Kya slips carefully back to the ground. "I think you're set. Going to catch some sun while it's still out?"

Good idea. Nobody's at the sunny spot of the ridge today. Call me when you want to go back up to the weyr. Nakoreth stands while Kya gathers his shirt, boots, and the oilpot, and retreats to a safe distance before jumping into the air. Kya watches him until he lands on a high sunny ledge, then shakes sand out of his shirt. As he puts it on, it feels oddly rough... shards! A sunburn? He groans and stuffs his feet into his boots.

Well, while he's in the Lower Caverns, he can ask Lyanti for a small pot of numbweed for his sunburn. But first, he needed to eat!

The oilpot goes back into its storeroom, the rag into a basket that's only partly filled with other oil-soaked rags. He'd certainly hate to have to oil a bronze as often as he oiled Nakoreth! He'd probably have to recruit help to get that task done in an afternoon!

Reminded of bronzes... Nakoreth. Remember that bronze who showed up earlier? Who was he?

Pericolath and his rider, they're here from High Reaches.

I wonder why...

To talk to Rayi, Pericolath said. His rider was sent by the High Reaches Weyrleader, to ask if Benden needs anything. I like Pericolath, he's pretty sensible. He's going to tell his Weyrleader to pass along word that we need good bronzes for a potential Weyrleadershp flight.

Oh. I guess we are rather short on Bronzes here, aren't we?

Wrath thinks so, she said she wanted more to chase her, so it'd be more challenging.

Kya nods absently and leaves the storeroom. After walking for just a short distance, he finds himself back outside. He isn't very hungry, and the sunburn, well, he should have a small numbweed jar stashed somewhere. Hey Nakoreth... uh. Would you mind coming back down? I think I'd like to go to our weyr now.

Sure.

Mine!! There's a flit egg pot for you. A person named B'rol has yours, he's heading over this way, looking for you. As if anyone could miss your bright hair. He jokes as he announces this to Niko.

Niko smiles at this, saying "Something Gyo' said. My flit egg is here, so just wait a sec, 'kay?" She smiles at R'nek, before running over towards the person called B'rol, stopping just short of running into him. She laughs breathlessly, and bows a little. "I'm Nikomas!" She grins, as B'rol smiles in return, handing her an eggpot with a bronzey band wrapping around it. "Here you go, Nikomas. Enjoy!" Giving her another smile, he walks off to find the owners of the other eggpots.

Waving at his receding back, she walks back to R'nek, looking at the pot all over for anything remarkable, and being careful not to drop it. When she gets to R'nek again, she peeks inside, lifting the lid up a little while grinning. "I can't wait till my egg hatches!!" She smiles brightly.

P'las nodded absentmindedly as he made sure that Pericolath knew what to pass on to the Weyrleader's bronze. After making the bronze go through the entire message, the man let his dragon pass it along. "He doesn't mind." With another grin, he snagged another slice of wherry. They did have a good cook, at least.

Mine, he thanks you and says that w can participate as well. He said that you would make a good Weyrleader. I think so too.

Do you like Wrath?

She sleeps, but she is pretty.

"Well, that's a relief," Ray says. "Wrath likes attention, and she didn't say anything but I know she is disappointed at the number of bronzes we have here."

P'las doesn't respond immediately, and as the silence drags on, Ray tries a different tack. "So how long has it been since you Impressed Pericolath?
