And Hiei, obviously comfortable with Kurama's skills, leaned back against a nearby tree. He couldn't help but smirk. The fox was playing. He could finish the demon off with one move if he wanted. The Koorime would have. Of course, he wasn't much for playing with food anymore.
"Didn't you ever hear the story of the fox who capered with the snake, Kurama?" Hiei teased, flashing his eyes. He couldn't not make fun of the other whenever he did this. "The fox dies in the end."

A loud, hiss-like scream was heard as the kitsune's rose whip tightened dramatically around the creature's neck, slashing through it, and causing a shower of discolored demonic blood. The death was instantaneous, relatively painless, and it send a very clear message to the Koorime.
And then the red-head turned around, as if he hadn't just effortlessly killed a snake.
"But, as you know so well, Hiei, I'm not your average fox."

"Hn," was all Hiei said in response, pushing his diminutive form from the rough bark of the tree. Barely looking at the other, he began walking in the appropriate direction again. As it was morning, the air was still a little bit chilled and small billows of fog caught the Jaganshi's eye every now and then. It wasn't that he cared much for vapor or the like. In truth, once or twice he had been slightly and very unnoticably startled by the floating puffs. Having been to Koorime territory, he had encountered some hostile ice apparitions. A signal of one being near was, well, easily fog.
But, of course, to make himself feel better, Hiei raised his body temperature so that whenever he came near a nebulosity, it disappeared.
He looked up, seeing they were actually close enough to the mansion to throw a rock at it, with a good arm.

After taking a few steps, Kurama suddenly seemed to realize something.
"I can't imagine Kasai minding me killing that demon, after what you did to her and her forgiving you... but what of Night? Something tells me she will hold a grudge, and that may mean trouble, so even though we are unwillingly going back, we will have to keep our eyes open much more than before."
Certainly the Koorime didn't need to hear the speech, but he wanted to be sure he knew of the possible danger. And the conversation, if any, that it may start was worth it.
Because some smart-a** comment about Hiei's apparent hate of fog may offend him in some way, leaving them on not-so-good terms.

"She can hold a grudge if she wants. That'll just make it easier to kill her," Hiei drawled boredly. He came to a stop before the grand mansion and couldn't help but 'tch' at it. In fact, the mocking noise might have been about the entire ordeal. Imagine. The Youko and Forbidden Child stuck in a house.
But Hiei did take Kurama's warning and remembering the other's reaction to when he'd hastily rushed in when they first arrived, the Jaganshi reached for the door. Instantly upon contact, there was a hiss. Not a snake's hiss but rather the hiss of something hot touching something cold. But something else kept Hiei from opening the door. His pupils narrowed and it seemed that in the process Hiei's airways may have become constricted as well because he was breathing haphazardly. And the instant before the Koorime drew his hand away from the handle, the corners of his hair began to turn up—
Head turned now, glaring to the side quietly as if listening, he looked through the fog. There was a low sound, just distinct enough to know that it was Hiei's growl.

Even the wise kitsune couldn't always read the Koorime, it seemed, because the reason he growled, bristled, and nearly summoned the dragon was a complete mystery. Kurama could sense no real threat, so the cause couldn't be an immediate danger... that is, unless the Jagan told Hiei something his own senses did not. In that particular case, however, wouldn't he know to fill the red-head in?
Not quite sure if it was appropriate, he questioned, "Should I... be worried?" His eyes were allowed to show deep curiousity and readiness for a possible fight.
Kurama took a few steps forward, so as to be beside him. And it was abnormally cold.

Jacque growled. They were at the mansion. He had seen the fox fighting, no playing with the snake. He had to admit the display was impressive. Maybe the fox would like to play now? He grinned at the thought. He crept close enough to be heard without shouting.
"Well, this is nice. A pretty fox and his little mutt friend. Come running back to Kasai and Night after only so short a time? How weak." He gloated.

Though it seemed as if they might be perfectly okay in the situation as long as they worked together, something had Hiei disturbed. So disturbed, in fact, that even when his growl faded and his teeth remained bared, one would be able to notice his fangs. Even his skin was beginning to tint to a darker color... a subtle green that made his eyes seem wildly vivid.
"We're not the ones hiding behind a psychic and her little orphan," the Koorime spat. It was almost amusing when his hellish form came out. It was like provoking an already angry dog.
The edges of the white cloth veiling the Eye began to burn, though Hiei stood, relatively calm.

"Unless you wish to die... or suffer whatever fate a vampire may, I suggest you leave us be," Kurama said cooly, giving one swift look in the creature's direction before his gaze was averted to the Jaganshi. The way Jacque patronized them, that had ticked him off, especially the insult to Hiei's heritage. That was not something to be toyed with. Not under any circumstance.
The fox stood, inconspicuously admiring the Koorime... not his looks, for green skin wasn't his fancy, but the added power that radiated from him so strongly, now, leaving a fog of his essence for the kitsune to just feel. And somehow, to him, this didn't seem as wrong as it may normally have.

"Jacque, quit. They have come back to me—and rather quickly, but I do not hold that against them—so Kurama and that boy he is watching so carefully are no longer in your territory for you to torment." The demoness said this as if she had been there the whole time, though she had just arrived. And through the damn doors she loathed deeply, since all her energy had been used to heal, not allowing enough even for phasing through objects.
Then she turned to Kurama and Hiei, giving them her attention.
"Out of my endless kindness, I will give a second chance. One condition, though. You must trust me... or pretend to, I don't care. I'm not your enemy, and I won't eat your children—assuming Hiei can bear any." A smirk quickly appeared on her face at that, as she glanced back and fourth between them once.

It wasn't until seconds after Kasai had spoken that Hiei's eyes rolled back into his head and a visible shudder shook him as his physical appearance returned to normal. He swallowed to wet his throat and cut his sharp eyes to the demoness. She was going to take them back. Fine. Trust her? Not on her life. Pretend to trust her? Maybe.
Not appreciating her jest, the Koorime merely narrowed his eyes and looked to the fox to see what he thought.

Catching onto Kasai's implications, the kitsune couldn't supress a soft chuckle, though it was hidden mostly by his slender hand in the same manner as he had done at the Dark Tournament.
And then he became appropriately serious.
"I would like to thank you for letting us return, though I do wish we could leave." He may have added a bit more onto that, but then she might become upset. That was something the fox would rather avoid, because he did want to leave her territory during his lifetime. Hopefully the Koorime would realize this and not poke fun at his 'thank you'. But that was doubtful, since he did so love to point out flaws.
At a wave of the woman's hand, Kurama proceeded to the castle, and after waiting for Hiei, he entered. Just in case, he pulled the rose from his hair once again, readying for any trap that may have been set.
He didn't trust her.

As very well expected, the Jaganshi uttered a 'tch' of disapproval at the fox's subtle boot-licking. It showed in his expression as well, which he made certain Kurama would see.
"Impressive," Hiei said lowly and sarcastically when he caught up to the other. As they entered and made their way, the Koorime was drawn once more to the holding designs whisped across the walls of the corridors. Though once he'd seen Kurama ready the rose again he let his careful hands rest on the handle of his katana.
"I don't know what you expect us to do," he said suddenly, though, to Kasai.

"I could tell you, I suppose... but what fun would there be in that?"
Kasai walked towards them more, but slowly, as her stomach still hadn't healed. She wouldn't have normally minded the distance, but raising her voice was unpleasant. So stupid... dodging that fire demon's attack would have been so easy, but the psychic wanted to prove a point. And he didn't catch on. For one to point out ignorance on a constant basis, he really was dense.
"Know this, though: there is significance in my choice of demons to bring, if you can see it." Let the Koorime think of that as a hint.
