I play oboe for concert band and bass drum for marching band...
Our concert band is really small, probably under 50, and I'm not only the only oboe, I'm the only double reed. Unless, of course, the director actually comes through with his promise to find a bassoonist...

I don't play a double reed instrument but I've always wanted to learn the double bassoon, my band director said that I'm too small and could probably dissapear behind it if I wanted to. =o

Oboe, for real yo. I started out on oboe, played it since the seventh grade, then ninth grade I was put in pit, which is just fine because now I'm section leader, but I go to oboe every concert season.

Kilowo I play the oboe, and I've been so complimented as to sounding like a healthy duck =D Hey, sounding like a healthy duck is better than sounding like a dying cow. That's what my grandpa said I sounded like when i first started on Bassoon in 7th grade. He thought i should have stuck with Piano. HA! look at me now! 1st bassoon in an all-highschool orchestra for 15-20 districts around where I live. And I've been first chair since 9th grade! TAKE THAT GRANDPA! (sorry, got caried away there... lol)

Yep, I was a dying duck. Actually, most dying animals seemed to apply...I think the official duck term has been moved to one of the saxes now. smile

Eh, I probably still do too. But that's all right.
A question for oboes. Ever get lumped in with the flutes? I'm the only oboe - in fact, the only double reed instrument - in my concert band, so I've been dubbed a 'floboe'. Part flute. Part oboe.

Kilowo I play the oboe, and I've been so complimented as to sounding like a healthy duck =D DUDE!!!!! PEEPS HAVE SAID THAT TO ME TOO!!!!! .....although it gets annoying after a while..... .....my girlfriend and I are the only oboe players at my school..... .....I used to play clarinet..... .....but in seventh grade my band teacher was looking for peeps to switch to other instruments that we have less of..... .....so I switched..... .....and I've been playing extremely well for one whole year on Halloween '06..... .....I still play my clarinet sometimes..... .....but I mess up and accidentally use oboe fingerings sometimes..... .....but back on the topic of band..... .....in my school's band of atleast seventy or more students..... .....there's only one French Horn..... .....and she kicks a**..... .....but I'm hopefully going to be playing mellophone in marching band next year..... .....making me a quad-instrumental..... .....because right now I'm tri-instrumental..... .....I play piano/keyboard, clarinet, and my sexy rental oboe..... .....and I only found out that my girlfriend played oboe a few weeks after I started dating her..... .....freaky huh?.....

Finally a group of people who play BASSOON! I started in 6th grade, and there are only two people who play (including me) at my entire school. Most likely I will play bells in Marching Band.

What can I play in marching band if I play the oboe? I was thinking alto saxophone (the tenor saxes are kinda unwieldy xD)

I march bass drum!
Kinda odd, I guess, but there's this day where the middle school band plays with the high school band, and since I couldn't play oboe there, my teacher let me try bass drum, since it didn't really requiring learning something drastically new. Y'know, no fingering issues, etc.
I loved the people in my section so much, I stuck with the drum when I became a freshman.
