Hi, I had a question about TRICARE seeing as this is a military board. If anyone can answer, can you PM me?

This is my question - I have a somewhat newborn daughter, she's a month and 2 weeks. How do I get her onto my medical? Or is she just on it?

Also - What happens when my husband gets back from Iraq medical insurance wise. Will I be without it? Thanks anyone!! PM please if you don't mind.

Is your husband active duty or activated reserves?

I know for AD, all babies born have a grace period where they are covered. However, it's generally best to go to your local Tricare office and gets DEERS updated ASAP. Also, as soon as you get your baby's social security card, you will need to bring that down to the office so they can update that. Mine came in as quick as 2 weeks but they say it can take up to 6. They have a dummy filler SS# until then. If you are at a military treatment facility, go ahead and have a set of records made for her.

If your husband is reserves, there is a form of Tricare, but it is not Prime. For that, I'm not entirely sure, but maybe some other ladies here know.

Quote:
Information on newborn registration in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System(DEERS) and enrollment in TRICARE Prime. Registration in DEERS is vital to ensure health care coverage for a new family member. To maintain the lowest cost health care coverage and to have your newborn remain covered under TRICARE Prime, you must complete a TRICARE Prime Enrollment Form and submit it to Health Net within the 60-day grace period.

Also, unless you have POA for it, he has to be the one to enter the baby into DEERS.

Based on what you said, I'm going to assume your hubby is reserve. Mine's AD so I'm not sure how medical works for you guys. sweatdrop Wish I could be of more help on that.

Thanks, it's just that I haven't gotten her SS card, or her birth certificate yet, and she was born nov. 24th. I do have power of attorney, and he's away in Iraq, x_x I don't really know what to do!

Get in contact with your FRG, they can point you in the right direction. 3nodding

The SS card should be in the mail by the time she is 6 weeks by the address you provided when you filled out your hospital paperwork. As for the birth certificate, that can vary by the states you live in and the area. I know here, you have to wait like a month for the paperwork to go in and then either go through the website or go down to the Office of Vital Statistics to obtain a copy.

Which reminds me I need to do that for my 4 month old. sweatdrop

Has anyone else noticed or experienced that they don't give out the yellow shot records anymore? I have to get a new sheet of paper signed each time here.

Hey all. I introduced myself in another thread, but I saw this and figured I'd say hey here as well.
My husband is AD Navy, and we're stationed in Bangor, Washington. He's on the USS Maine (submarines, ugh). We just made E-5 a little bit ago (yay!), and we've been in for a lovely (*cough*) 4 years, with only about 4 more to go, three of which will be shore duty, yay!
We've got a 2-1/2 year old son, and are figuring out when to TTC the next and last.

Just like Savina, I posted in the Intro thread, but I found this one and decided to introduce myself here too.

My husband is a Staff Sgt. in the USAF. We're currently living in Texas, and since we've gotten no orders in FIVE YEARS, I am beginning to think we'll be here for a while. Not that I'm complaining, I like it here just fine. mrgreen We're quite the military family: both of my grandfathers served, one in the AF and the other in both Army and AF. My husband's grandparents all served, Air Force and Navy, his father was AF, his brother is AF (currently in Iraq for the second time), and he has two cousins in, one AF, one Army, with another going through the enlistment process right now.

I'm glad to see so much support here! I hear way too much military bashing these days, especially on the internet, so it's refreshing to find a group such as this.
